§ ....Rubbish?

There is an arid, desert-prairie [chaparral] area just between here and the small 'burb of Flour Bluff, Texas that has a section that recently added new trails for walking, hiking, biking and birding. At one time when we were walking through here, Bud and I talked with an older gentleman that obviously lived here a lot longer than the two of us. He mentioned that this part of the trail once had a railroad track?!! Okay, maybe so, I didn't question, I just listened to his stories. But, after we arrived back home, I checked into it.
...from Wikipedia this: What is now Flour Bluff Drive [sic: it] was once a railroad branch going off Texas Mexican Railway to the Naval Air Station. Waldron Field, located on the south side of Flour Bluff... built during World War II
When we came upon a forked intersection we chose to walk the short incline to the bay to see what waterfowl we could spot. And on our left, behind all the desert-like plants and tall wild grasses, we came upon this highly graffiti-ized, huge, rusted out, what looks like the top of a water tank. Now I'm wondering that perhaps, if this may be remnants of the railroad cutting through this land, maybe this served as a water tower? The photo doesn't really give you much of an idea just how colossal it is...this may help: The tangled shrubs and thorny bushes surrounding the rusty object are probably 10-12 feet [3.68m] high. Who knows...but it's definitely rubbish.

Believe it or not, the last time this happened was in 2010 I believe...
Terri @ Your Friend from Florida tagged me with these questions:

1. Are you named after someone?  Yes.  My mother's sister who died in a fire.  My aunt suggested to my mom that I be named after Annie.

2. When was the last time you cried?   Watching the most recent episode of NCIS [April 29] about the homeless veterans and a runaway girl and their dog, Dave. The crime in this episode was selling of body parts from the bodies of the homeless who passed on and had no family, etc. . . illegally.

3. Do you have kiddos? Four!! Two human and two cats. The cats are still at home, the two human 'kiddos' have left the nest...both, long ago. By the way, I don't like the term 'kiddo'...too unfamilial.

4. If you were another person, would you be a friend of yourself? I hope so.

5. Do you have a guilty pleasure? At my age, there is nothing 'guilty' about any of my pleasures. Years ago, my favorite guilty pleasure was not doing the dishes [by hand] after dinner and doing them the next morning. Of course now that we're retired, I cook and BUD does the dishes [by dishwasher]. I don't feel guilty on that aspect either. lol
.
6. Do you like your handwriting? Way back in the 3rd grade I have Ms. Beale to thank for turning my cursive into 'pretty'. Over the years my handwriting has taken a turn to sloppy. But it's still readable....not like a Drs.

7. What’s your favorite cereal? I like cereals, but either cooked in some treat like Rice Krispie Treats or cookies. If I had to eat cereal in a bowl [as a nighttime snack...I don't eat cereal for breakfast, ever!] it'd probably be Sugar Pops [corn puffs] or Sugar Smacks [wheat puffs].

8. What’s the first thing you notice about people? Gosh, dunno actually. It may not be the first thing I notice, but I check out the clothes on both sexes...and what really makes me click my tongue and shake my head in disbelief, is the fact that women AND men wear house slippers or pj bottoms while out shopping. What's with that?

9. What is your eye color? Right now... Really patriotic. [red, white....and BLUE!!]. I just woke up as I type this, so there is bloodshot to make it red. Get me some eye drops and the red'll disappear.

10. Scary movie or happy endings? Can I say both? I love to watch something that scares me out of my skin...but I like movies with a happy ending also.

MACRO MONDAY

Most times, for me, there is nothing more creepy than seeing a snake slithering in the grassy areas along ditches or in a yard. [I remember one morning, early, in our Tucson neighborhood when I was out doing my morning walking ritual, and in the middle of the road---this is near a desert area with catcus and a large pantano- right smack dab in the middle of the road and me walking up to it [almost!] there laying on the heated blacktop surface was a huge, HUGE and fat, diamondback rattlesnake. I gave him plenty of room!!!] Anyway, coming back to two of the most creepy creatures on earth.... snakes AND SPIDERS!! This one, tho, is nothing but a brown spider tie tack I used to wear on Halloween. I haven't worn it for ages; mainly 'cause one year one of the doctors I worked with tried to 'flick it off' - he thought it was real, but I know deep down he wanted to 'cop a feel'. Needless to say, I stopped wearing it back then. Thinking now of doing so this year. It's really not that big as it shows in the macro shot either...as I say it's a tie tack ---about the size of a U.S. quarter.

To be more accurate than the lyrics to Stafford's song...for me it'd be "she said...I HATE spiders and snakes".

END MACRO MONDAY

MONDAY MORSELS

Speaking of Tucson...This week, finally, there is a predicted cold front moving into our area from Canada. Well, a cold front for Coastal Texas that is. It's supposed to get down in the middle sixties at night. Wooohoo!! I'm looking forward to cooler nights. And a lot more drier air. But going back to Arizona and our decade living there. We retired in January on purpose, 'cause we knew we were relocating to one of our favorite cities...Tucson. And we wanted to leave the cold, nasty winters behind us. We wanted to become acclimated to the warm dry and mild weather in the Sonoran desert before the heat of the summer came upon us. Which was a wise decision on our part. I would've hated living there from the 'get-go' if we moved from the Colorado mountains to the intense summer heat of Tucson. But, I'm getting away from my point here. Weather. We lived the first summer in Tucson and then the nights cooled down after the monsoon season....but I was still in a bit of a shock, not the shock of still a warm wonderful climate, but shocked that we had no cold snow storms... when we decorated the exterior of our desert oasis for the 1st Christmas Season [Irene, Dan and the boys were coming]----and while helping Bud string the lights for the eaves of the house.....we both sweated!! And in shorts!!! Ahhhhhhhhh, the blissful dry heat!! Now here, after a couple of temperature drops on the thermometer, it's down-right bone chilling. It's the continual high humidity year 'round here. But I'm lovin' it!!! I look forward to the winters here....actually it's more like a 'normal' Autumn in November and December in the Coastal Bend...comparing it to Colorado---our trees turn Autumn colors here...in the last two months of the year....while others are basking in the sun-drenched snowfall. Unlike Colorado where you have 5 or 6 months of snowfall and below freezing cold...or unlike the two seasons of the desert---hot and hotter, we have seasonal changes here, but no snow.

Mama Bear at Bears in Exile tagged me with eight questions...

1. Are you a morning or evening person?
I'm definitely a morning person. Funny tho, when I was a teen it was just the opposite...I used to stay up to the wee hours of the morning and stay asleep 'til 2 in the afternoon...now it's nearly reversed, and I wouldn't miss a morning sunrise if I can help it.

2. Do you routinely go to bed at the same time as your partner?
It's more or less a routine. Sometimes. Well, most times. But I'm always the last one to shut my book and turn out the lights. Long after Bud's asleep.

3. Who does the driving when you and your partner go out together?
Most times it's me. City driving. If we take long trips on the open highways and interstates, then Bud takes over. In large cities like Houston neither of us likes to drive, but Bud more so...so, I drive.

4. Who pays the bills at your house and why?
I do! I need to control the spending...if Bud did, we'd be in the poor house. But he'd have plenty of books to read and no place to go, or anything to eat. I guess you'd say he has priorities. LOL

5. Do you still Iron?
    What's that; iron?

6. Do you use cloth or plastic bags?
It really depends...if we shop at the neighborhood grocery super center, H E B's, I have the cloth sacks from the store, but if we go mall hopping, then it's normally the plastic or whatever they have.

7. Does your family still take a local newspaper?
"Take" is the operative word here...No, it's not delivered, but we do read it faithfully.

8. Do you recycle?
Yes!!! Papers, plastic, and aluminum. Most definitely. The city charges us property tax and a monthly statement for such ...so, if I have to pay for the luxury of curbside pickup on that....you're darned tootin' I'll set out all for them to pick it up.
PS...I would anyway. Even if I had to take it in myself.

Yesterday I mentioned the little bit on how I like to buy locally instead of using the convenience of buying online....in most cases, tax free! To me, that is all kinds of wrong. And I already realize that the majority of consumers will disagree. It's not the luxury of not contending with 'sales pitches' in stores per sé, but economically for the city, county and state. It is only my way of thinking. I also feel, deep down, that is one of the prime reasons this country's infrastructure is going to pieces; literally. Think about it. The cities' streets are in dire need of repair work. County and states' bridges are falling. Even the famed interstate highways are in critical need of humongous repair work and all 'we' can afford is patch work here and there. Where do the infrastructure moneys come from? Federally it's mostly from the cost of fuel that runs our vehicles. But locally, it's mainly from sales tax and property tax. If we as consumers choose to buy online...the tax money doesn't come into the proper outlets...hence a crumbling infrastructure economy. So, in turn, sales taxes and property taxes HAVE to be increased. And we all b!tch about the increases when it's our own fault in so many ways. If only the American consumer would stop and think more wisely, more of us would take to shopping at the local STORES instead of using the convenience of shopping online. I for one will always shop at local stores PHYSICALLY 99% of the time. For that very reason...to keep the local economy strong. It's sad to see so many local stores having to board-up and close down...a huge factor weighing in is the internet that is hurting those who have a livelihood in trying to accomplish the American dream and own and operate a store in town. See a book you'd like to buy? Instead of Amazon...go to your local bookstore and order it!...and pay the eight to ten cents on a dollar for the cost of the book. Invest in your own city and county and state!! I heard on the news a while ago that our country's Congress is thinking about putting into law an internet tax on purchases ...........that's a GOOD idea!! What really makes the difference I ask? I answer: keep the money going out to YOUR own city!!! Paying higher property tax or sales tax or internet tax or if you rent...higher rent because the landlord's property tax increases?------it's helping the local economy. Besides shopping in stores gets me off my butt and out of the house and more walking for exercise.

Shawnna at Shawnna's Blog Styling and Thom at Thom's Place 4 Whatever tagged me yesterday!! I'm more than happy to oblige....
Here is the tag:

1. Why did you start blogging? A long time online friend had a blog and I often went to read what she had for the day---I tried it. And have been posting almost daily ever since!!

2. If you could travel anywhere in the world with no restriction of costs, where would it be and why? Anywhere? Well, there are several places I'd love to see, Australia, The Amazon River, The Nile, and the pyramids...but mostly, it would be the British Isles. London England- then Ireland and then hop over to the mainland of Europe and do research for my genealogy work that I began years ago. I've researched everything there is available to me in the States; collecting all kinds of legal copies of everything from birth certificates, marriage certificates, even ship's logs carrying them to America from the late 1700s from Ireland and France [once Germany occupied]. I'd love to delve into it all in Europe to see just how close I am in bloodlines to 1600 era royalty that the genealogy hints at that I have.

3. Did you have a teacher in school that had a great influence on your life? If so, what? Now y'all know it's been decades since I've been in school...but I've fond memories of my English and English Lit teachers. Especially Ms. Sanderson. My high school English Lit teacher....she got me so very interested in Shakespeare. And to this day I find myself quoting or going back to reading his works.

4. If you could spend the day with a famous person, who would it be, and what would you do? This always seems a strange answer, but for years I've oftentimes wish that John Wilkes Booth were alive...or I LIVED back in his day. So I could get to interview him and write his biography. Books written about him that I've read always are written from historical facts...I'd like to have known him personally to see what made him 'tick' and why he was so hateful of Lincoln.

5. Toilet paper — over or under? OVER.

6. Name one thing in your life that you would do over if possible. I can't think of anything....I've pondered over this. Nothing comes to mind. I'm happy with my life and how it turned out. I never dreamed beyond my expectations. I got what I wanted....a happy marriage and two children.

7. Tell about your pets — if any. Two furry fur babies. Both adopted...older cats. Tahoe, a medium long haired black tabby. Winston, a white silver-tipped Persian.

8. Do you live in a small town or a large town. (You don’t have to name the town.) Not large, nor small actually. At least in my way of thinking. The city itself is probably 250K to 300K in population.

§ ...my mission should I choose to accept this award is:

The wonderful and talented Gillian bestowed this cool award upon me and I love it! Along with it comes a challenge that I will accept. I have a choice between five....

Here are the options! (Be adventurous, it's not about embarrassment, just fun!)

1. Set up your camera on self timer (3 or 5 secs will be fine), hit the button and RUN in front of the camera view and try and get as far as you can before the shot is taken! Post it!! I'm sure your behind isn't as bad as you think!

2. In a conversation with someone work in the word "Woof" randomly, see how many times you can say it (With a straight face helps)... Post your score, and share their reaction!! example "Hey, woof you pass me the salt please?"... "I'll pick woof up in ten minutes, see you then!"

3. Before you go to hand something to someone, raise it to your nose for a second (As though you're sniffing it), and then hand it over casually as though nothing happened. The more mundane the object, the better the reaction you'll get! Such as a cd, money, phone..... Record the facial expression you receive in detail!! It's hilarious, trust me!

4. List 5 jokes that actually made you laugh out loud! REAL LOL's!!

5. Find a location, anywhere, room, backyard, bathroom, holding your camera spin around in a circle, press the shutter randomly, tell us all about what's in the picture (whatever it is!!!)! Doesn't matter if it's blurry, you'll clear things up! ;-)

I chose #5. Tho there really wasn't anything to clear up on this. As I stood in the middle of the room where my computer is, I clicked photos of the walls surrounding me....

THURSDAY THUNKS....

1. Pants on the Ground....
Yippee!! I finally lost the weight I've always wanted to lose. Now, get outta my way...Dairy Queen here I come. [I know...I know, Simon predicted this would be a hit, I've seen commercials....but not for me...I'd rather take on Dairy Queen!]

2. To compliment Kimber's question from last week.... have you ever fell down the stairs?
Not DOWN all the steps...but I have slipped on ice on a step, but never fell other than landing on my butt on the very step that made me sit. Sit, Booboo, sit!! I obey the laws...even law of gravity.

3. Have you ever written to a company about their product? Ever called them?
Oh yes...several times. And I've EMAILED them too!! I'm a stickler for consumer rights.

4. Your dog/cat/snake/iguana/pet skunk (or just fill in your pet's species) goes to the vet. Ok, you take them to the vet... most pets wouldn't go on their own. The vet tells you that your species has cancer. Do you:

    * a. tell them to pull out the needle and put them to sleep on the spot
    * b. take them home and let them live out their life until the end
    * c. same as b. except you don't let them get to the suffering stage
    * d. go full steam ahead with cancer treatments

5. What is your favorite comfort food?
Just one? I feel comfort in a lot of foods...fried potatoes, ice cream, steak, pizza, cheeseburgers, chocolate. It'd be better to ask me what I DON'T like.

6. If your child was put in jail for putting a gun in their spouses mouth and pulling the trigger (even though the gun wasn't loaded), strangling them and breaking their arm... would you post bail for them?
Old enough to have a spouse? Old enough to account for their actions I say!!! The time fits the crime!!! And actually, come to think about it...if they were underage, and did this to a friend instead of a spouse, my kid would pay his/her dues...it's called tough love.

7. If elephants had wings, how many feathers do you think they would have on each wing?
Have y'all seen Dumbo? He had 'wings' and FLEW but didn't have a single feather.

8. Is there anything growing in your refrigerator right now?
Nothing that I know of...it's cleaned out regularly. No mold, not green fuzzy stuff, no frost, no moisture in the veggie bins...nada. But there is a growing list of things to consume...like a huge imported Belgian Chocolate Bar - it HAS to be eaten. So sorry...I called 'Dibs' on it days ago. :::light goes on above my head!::: I get it now....ya, it does have something growing...it's growing COLD!!!

9. What did you do with your Thursdays while we were on a break?
Twiddled my thumbs 'til y'all returned. It was gut wrenching!! Don't ever leave us high and dry again...get a guest host or sumpthin' but don't do that to us! I was this close to therapy!

10. Would you donate to the Kimber Ark Building Fund and donate wood? She is about to float away after all...
Wood? Donate wood? I've got two cats for your ark!! It's either that, or gimme your card # and I'll order some for you from Home Depot since obviously your phone isn't working to order some to build. Got nails?

11. If I were to send you a letter and I wanted to put a little heart sticker on the back of the envelope, what color sticker would you like it to be?
    Red---all hearts are red.

THURSDAY 13

Our first residence after retiring and leaving Colorful Colorado was the dry state of Arizona. We chose to live in Tucson since it was like a second home for us anyway when we'd follow the Colorado Rockies to their Spring Training Camp in March and April each year. And we both enjoyed it very much...for a decade. The only water seen around the area close-by was Sabino Canyon. And then, only when we had a rainy winter. The dry air was good...except for the summer months of late July through August when the monsoons would hit...then, it was unbearable to be anywhere other than your air conditioned home. After ten years the white hot sun in the summer months, the summer weather got the best of us and we wanted to relocate where there was more a change of seasons... But we did LOVE Arizona and it's beautiful, uniqueness and landscape....

You know you're from Arizona if:

1] You can pronounce Saguaro, Tempe, San Xavier, Canyon de Chelly, Mogollon Rim, and Cholla. [for those that know not...it's Sah WAR oh, TEM pee, San ZAY vee ur, Can yen duh SHAY, MUG ee ahn Rim, and CHOY ah]

2] You know hot air balloons can't rise because the air temperature is hotter than the air inside the balloon.

3] You see two trees fighting over a dog who's outdoors to 'do his duty'.

4] You put on fresh sunscreen just to go check the mail box [all year long!]

5] You discover, in July it only takes two fingers to drive your car, because your steering wheel is so hot.

6] You can hear the weather forecast of 115 degrees without flinching.

7] You notice your car overheating before you drive it.

8] You no longer associate bridges with water.

9] You wouldn't dream of buying a car with vinyl seat covers.

10] You can say "Hohokam" and people don't think you're laughing. [pronounced Ho HO kum]

11] You think 60 tons of crushed rock makes a beautiful yard.

12] In the summer monsoon season, you know a swamp cooler is not a happy hour drink.

13] Your 'cold water tap' is producing hotter water than the 'hot water tap'.

BONUS: Announcements for Fourth of July events never end with "in case of rain......"

I just read this recently and thought it quite interesting. Never knew this 'til now....
There are various theories to the name of this desert state. Some historians believe that the term Arizona came from the name of another town; 'Arizonac'. This little town is located about thirteen kilometers to the south of the Mexico-United States border. They believe that this town actually gets its name from the word "alĭ ṣon" or "alĭ sona", which when translated into the native language (O'odham) means 'small spring'. Now, the pronunciation of the 'l' in the O'odham language actually sounds like an 'r' to a listener who speaks or is well versed in English. Therefore "alĭ ṣon/a" got translated to Arizona/a'. When the Spanish missionaries came here during the 18th century, they re- christened the place and named it Arizona.

O'odham [pronounced oh OH dum] is a Native American Nation/Tribe

CAUTION: If you get a comment from EdwinaHugh...beware [note at the end of my blog today]!!!

There is much I feel I need to cover today in my Monday Morsels. B...a dear blogger sent me over to this blog...two older women and their views. This one post in particular, I loved, and dear "B" knew me well enough to give me directions. Going Rogue without a Condom The article [which I had to have Bud sit down and read also] was that of how we feel in so many ways even without reading 'her book'. The blog section was written and published by Helen at "Margaret and Helen Best Friends for 60 Years and Counting." I thought I'd share the link to it for others.

Altho the daylight hours are beginning now to be fairly warm with highs in the upper 40's or lower 50's the nighttime temps are still hovering near freezing. I thought it'd be fun to crochet me a winter cap for when I walk on the beach during the cold, windy weather. I bought me just one skein of yarn yesterday while we were out for our Sunday Brunch...only to come home and search for a cap to crochet. I found a pattern, something different with a little "Spring" touch to it. I'm trying. Don't know if I'll get the stitch correct tho. LOL But, it's worth a try. Also, I'm in the middle of sketching a favorite big cat ... a tiger. I needed to take a break from it and thought I'd do my Monday post for a 'time out'. As I said yesterday, I've sketched quite a bit because of the cold weather lately...having to stay indoors. I'll post some of the drawings in time. One in particular for the year's anniversary of Jan. 20th's inauguration. No it's NOT Obama. But I'm gonna save that and post it ON THE 20th 2010, one year later.

....while in Google, I typed in Hootin' Anni and came up with Google's Rank for my blog! Here's the info on it from a screenshot--

And if you take the site's uri off my screenshot, and delete hootin--anni.blogspot.com and then add YOUR blog's home page uri, [http://wholinkstome.com/url/YOUR BLOG HOME PAGE URI HERE] you probably will find YOUR ranking! How fun is that? Compare with others, this screenshot above, will enlarge in a new window.

For Ruby Tuesday I'll post the photo [sorry for being so blurry, tho] ---a red plastic spider goblet that I bought at the Dollar Store for Halloween. Actually, I bought two. Then, the same day, at the same store, I bought a package of the battery operated flickering lights and added one each into each goblet. They both sit at opposite corners of an end table in the dining room, surrounded by the seasonal webbing.

You Have Your PhD in Men

You understand men almost better than anyone.

You accept that guys are very different, and you read signals well.

Work what you know about men, and your relationships will be blissful.

Oh and...what a game The Rockies and Phllies had last night. A close one. Up into the 8th inning when Colorado went ahead. By two!! Then....in the ninth. The Phillies scored THREE! And Brad Lidge [a former Astro] closed again for the Phillies...keeping my Rockies at bay. It just wasn't going to happen. The Tie!...nope, nope, nope. FOR THE LAST 16 years that I've followed them from home games in Denver to Spring Training in Tucson...I say once again "There's Always Next Year"! Dang.

    PLASTIC

Truthfully? I almost took a photo of our plastic recycle container that we set out at curbside bi-monthly. LOL It's filled with plastic items. But, it was too hot [near 90 degrees -Farenheit, I didn't want to go back outside]. Besides, who really wants to look at someone's garbage, right? The A C was on, so I took a trip around the house in much comfort, and found these two. Plastic toys.

Top one is from the movie, SHREK....Donkey. It's an action figure. The bottom one is the face of one of my Cabbage Patch Dolls.

Thom at Thom's Place.... tagged me.

Here is the gist of it all. You name the person that tagged you, which I did...see? Thom, above this. So far, so good. This blond was able to follow for that. The next thing to do is to list six things that are unimportant, but make me happy. Easy 'nough. [I've been called a cheap date before....errrr, um. Well, I think you understand that. Get your mind out of the gutter now, y'hear?] Then, when that's done, tag 6 bloggers. So on with the show...Here, are my list of sixes [6 things, and 6 bloggers]:
      1. A day filled with sunshine and cool breezes
      2. My sweet cheeks' cheek dimples!! He still has his youthful grin
      3. Making lists [may not be important, but having a list made out to not forget sure makes me happy]
      4. A clothes brush handy ---wearing black and holding Winston. White, long-haired Winston.
      5. Inspirational idea for a watercolor project on paper
      6. The Gulf of Mexico at 'my back door'. Seriously, it's unimportant--I could reside anywhere, but it's gonna make me happy none the less

Normally, I don't tag specifically. I always post that if you'd like to do the tag; go ahead. But....
        I'm TAGGING this time.

You'll know who you are. Just look here:
        Mary
        Denise
        Patsy
        Charlotte

    COMMON

A lot of bloggers have tags/memes/and love of movies in 'common' with one another. I thought I'd 'kill two keyboards with one post' today and do a meme tag within a meme. Using all three mentioned above as a 'common' denominator.

I found this from Ben's Blog ...way back in May 2008, [it's been in a 'draft' for I don't know how long and never completed with my personal answers] and am going to post it, finally. Hey, so I'm slow getting 'round to it. Here are Ben's Answers if you'd like to read his....click here

    Movie Meme

    1. One movie that made you laugh:
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad world.

    2. One movie that made you cry:
So many...one I think of right off is Phantom of the Opera...on the rooftop scene and the rose in the snow. ---"You will curse the day you did not do all that the Phantom asked of you...!"
    Video

    3. One movie you loved when you were a child:
Ben Hur...hey, it was the 1st one I went to see by myself!...it has a special place in my heart. I consider that being a youngster/teen I WAS a child then. At least compared to now. And I'll confess, I never went to see any animated children's movies until I had children of my own.

    4. One movie you’ve seen more than once:
Oh golly....tons of 'em. But I'm thinking Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid I've seen most. I can mouth the words and put the music prompt in...by heart!! 2nd in the running would be National Treasure...I love both.

    5. One movie you loved, but were embarrassed to admit it:
Tombstone. Val Kilmer made me fall in head over heals for Doc Holliday.

    6. One movie you hated:
The Verdict, with Paul Newman. I walked out of the theater. The foul language made my gut ache. [I finally did watch it all the way through when it was edited for TV. LOL...still it wasn't that good a movie]

    7. One movie that scared you:
JAWS? Nah, not really. Nothing much scares me at my age. In fact, I enjoyed it immensely.

    8. One movie that bored you:
Tropic Thunder....we watched it on video, partly...got so bored with it only after about 20 minutes and we soon ejected it and tossed it in the 'trade' movie basket where we take them in and trade them for $ $!

    9. One movie that made you happy:
Finding Nemo..DORY was so sweet!...she just made me giggle a lot.

    10. One movie that made you miserable:
An old one, but still it comes to mind often...Killing Fields...it made me miserable because of the story line and drastic, truthful, documentary styling...but don't get me wrong, I really LIKED the movie ---yet, it ended superbly.

    11. One movie you weren’t brave enough to see:
None that I can think of...I'm choosy when it comes to picking movies to view. Scary ones don't scare me, sad ones make me sad but still I'll view 'em if I want to. It doesn't take bravery to see a movie ...as they're fiction.

    12. One movie character you’ve fallen in love with:
Shifu...the character...master Kung Fu Panda...the red panda; ancient one...voiced over by Dustin Hoffman

    13. The last movie you saw:
At the theater? I think it was Coraline [I don't go out for movies much anymore, like we used to on every Friday's new released flick..there just aren't that many good ones for my age bracket any more] The last one I watched with DVD is Changeling with Angelina Jolie

    14. The next movie you hope to see:

There are a couple I am looking forward to seeing on the big screen....Public Enemies [John Dillinger - Johnny Depp & Christian Bale] on July 1st, and in May of this year...Terminator Salvation starring Christian Bale also. And a Tim Burton movie, "9", tentative release in September of this year....9/909

And, no, never fear....I am not tagging anyone. Just getting the draft published.

Oh, and one more "common"...if you've visited recently you know that my sister and I celebrate Sister's Day on the 18th of March every year. And that she sent me a Sister's Day gift...well, it was delivered to our door on the 18th...and it was planted in our yard. The other day, I shared some flower blossoms in our yard and this was one of them:
Guess what? Yesterday morning when I went out to unlock the gate to our yard so we could do some more yard work...the plant has FOUR trunks...and I'm now thinking that each trunk will have different colored blossoms?!! All four trunks are grafted into one 'common' tree? This is the colored blossom on one of the branches yesterday...

One red flower last week, this week, it's peach colored. Oh I can't wait 'til the plant blooms more heavily when it gets rooted in the soil!!! What are the other two, of the one common plant, going to have? Stay tuned.....

Since my high school years, and, back then, my found fascination in English Literature, today is the Ides of March. And a symbolic term that I will never forget the rest of my days. Our teacher, Mrs. Sanderson, was such a wonderful woman to give us all interest in the subject. And she was especially fond of teaching us the works of William Shakespeare. And I have thanked her from that day on. I was lucky enough to be in the honors English Lit class. We had so much fun, learning!! I remember she took us all to a theatrical play in the city. A private showing of Julius Caesar ON the 15th of March one Spring day. What a thrill that was. I still get a feeling of excitement thinking about the memory of that field trip. From that point on I read more and more Shakespeare!! In Shakespeare's play, Act I Scene II, a soothsayer warns Caesar ... "Beware of the Ides of March". Ides being from the Latin meaning the middle. In this particular month, March, it is always the 15th. The Ides of March was a festive day dedicated to the god Mars. Also, it was time for a military parade. In modern times, the term is now best known as the date that Julius Caesar was assassinated, in 44 BC, the story of which was famously dramatized in one of my favorite reads--William Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar.

"Cowards die many times before their deaths; The valiant never taste of death but once. Of all the wonders that I yet have heard, it seems to me most strange that men should fear; seeing that death, a necessary end, will come when it will come".
Julius Caesar ACT II Scene II

My love for Shakespeare and his works and his life extended way beyond those days in Mrs. Sanderson's class. I've learned a great deal since then, but the Ides of March will always take me back to Colorado and my high school class room. To this day I can see her face as she headed our class with her exuberance and love for the art of teaching and captivating her kids so intensely. Of all the teachers I've had through my schooling, Mrs. Sanderson I remember most! She was the most influential teacher I had and explains my love for literature. This photo of her, I scanned from my high school year book circa 1966-67

Granny on the Web tagged me. On Friday the 13th no less! So, okay...I list seven odd things about me. First off, I'm thinking why just seven? I AM QUIRKY. That's the whole being. Just face it, I don't need to list seven...just the photo of me is sufficient. You can certainly find them, right? No? Okay. Here goes. I've done this tag [only it was six back then] before, so I thought instead I'd list seven of my favorite QUIRKY SAYINGS that I've been known to blabber out---
1] "She's/He's the sludge at the bottom of the gene pool."
2] "This is about as useless as tits on a boar hog."
3] "He's about as bright as a blackout!"
4] "Congress couldn't organize an orgy in a brothel."
5] "Hey? Remember, Rome wasn't burnt in a day!"
6] "You're about as handy with that as an ashtray on a motorcycle."
7] "The wheel in your brain is still turning, but the hamster is dead!"

    EDGE - "Any Past Theme"
This is the first appearance for the new category! (Aren't you excited????) Search through the themes list and pick out one you may have missed, or already did and want to do again. (Please make your selection from a past theme.)

    #67 December 2 HEADS --shine

I think I'll go with #67 on the list; shine. And put a 'new twist' on it. But first....here's the link from the one HoT I did previously, this past year, with the same theme. The Sunshine of my life. [it should open in a new window]

The new 'twist' to shine is the table's centerpiece for Valentine's Day. I crocheted a small placemat with reds and pinks and then added the shine and twist with a metalic heart wire garland. And added some more shine to the small bowl that holds a couple of rosebuds, adding metalic red 'shredded grass'. The bowl is clear glass, and it also has hearts molded into the EDGE around the top rim.

The candle holders are glass...glass birds. I also found, and couldn't resist buying the two mouse lovers...you'll see them below in closeup photos [all with mouseover captions]....

I've been tagged. RoseAnn @ The Social Frog tagged me with the SIX HAPPY THINGS meme...Here goes:

    The Rules
    1. Link to the person who has tagged you
    2. Write down six things that makes you happy.
    3. Post the rules, tag six others and let them know you tagged them.
    4. Tell the person who tagged you when your entry is done.

    My six things:
1] Giggling at my cats' antics. Especially when they're playing chase and Winston has a huge ornery streak and loves to tease Tahoe. Thing is, Tahoe is so big and fat [she keeps Winston from over eating if you get my drift]...and she can't keep up with his young mind and body. He gets the best of her most all the time. I think maybe he's getting even because she eats his share all the time. LOL
2] Sitting down and playing Uno, Cribbage, Card games, Trivial Pursuit, Dominoes, Racko and chess with Bud. Not all at once, but it's a happy time to play games and win. I even get happy that he wins some....but, I don't let him do it too often. Got to keep the challenge and competitive interest alive in him y'know.
      3] A good doctor's report!!
4] Getting phone calls from our son Erik, or daughter Irene, and my sister!! Those calls are the only ones I actually answer. I have caller ID and if I see their photos come on the phone pad, I answer it. Otherwise, I don't answer...that too makes me happy, 'cause I don't like using phones at all.
      5] Having good friends...
6] A warm balmy wonderful relaxing day on the beach, with a good book. As the surf plays its melody, and the birds sing to me...that is a happy, happy day.

First off today, let me tell you about a blogger I enjoy visiting. I love her quick wit, her sense of humor and her complete honesty and demeanor. She's a lot of fun...I also must tell you I enjoy Arthur and all her other furbabies' antics. But...now this is something...her online signature is Gattina. And she always signs the comments as such. Her profile name for her blog is Gattina. The other day, as you know about Blogger's security word on some blogs that some have for spam and keeping the robotic comments at bay...let me say some of the words are difficult to decipher and I've had to redo a few because I couldn't tell an "i" from an "l" sometimes. Anyway, here I am, sitting, typing away at composing a comment for someone [I can't remember who it was], but there in front of my face, the security word....

...altho it lacks a 2nd 't' it was just too darned close to not get a screenshot of if and share it. Especially with Gattina. I do hope she drops by today. That one was more fun than a barrel of monkeys! You don't think our dear blogger is trying to take possession of our psyche do you? Where IS SHE, anyway? [insert me looking over my shoulder] Is she here?

Then, I thought I'd share a little tidbit about how to go about the character map you may not know of having on your computer. It's been posted on my sidebar for many months now, but I don't know how often anyone would actually take time to read my tidbits. So, try this; nifty!! Following the pink arrows
1] Go to the "Start" icon, click on it.

2] Find "Programs" and click on it

3] Find "Accessories", click on it

4] Find "System Tools", click on it

5] Find "Character Map", click on it

      6]This will load...the Character Map--

7] Use scroll bar to the right, and find the character you wish to use, DOUBLE CLICK ON IT...you'll then notice that it shows in the bar below:

<——scroll bar on map, not your browser

8] Once the character is chosen by double clicking it, you then submit to copy by clicking on the "Copy" button to the right of the map.

9] The last step...where you want the character to be in your blog post or document....Say I want the copyright symbol to show at the end of this text...I'd go through the steps above and then "PASTE" by right clicking my mouse at this post as follows: ©

YOU'RE DONE! Publish your blog post, or save document. The copyright character [or any you choose] remains in the text.

Storyteller sent me an award in the email. One I had missed from her blog. She writes: "5. Hootin' Anni - always keeps me thinking and entertained with her well written posts ... amazed at her wonderful graphics!" Wow...thank you so much for the great compliments...AND for the wonderful award. Much appreciated.

      - - -

And, Toni Lee...she sent me to pick up an award from her too. She posted in my comments that it was healthy for me. I found this: Blogger Toni Lee said...

"I have something for you and it's not fattening...0cal...0carb..0fat.
Stop by and pick it up."

It's delicious!! And yes...healthy and oh "so sweet of you" to share it with me. Thank you so much.

      <><><>

And last but not least, Jen @ Jen's Chronicles has awarded me with a couple of wonderful accolades!! I thank you so much dear lady for thinking of me. You always bring some sunshine my way. And for that, I am very grateful.

      Jen also tagged me:
Here are the rules of the game:

Link to the person who tagged you.

Share six random things about yourself.

Tag six people and let them know they are tagged on their own blog.

Feel free to play the way you want.

      Here are my six things:
      1] I love deviled eggs
      2] I secretly feed a neighborhood cat
      3] I love fast cars
4] My popcorn MUST have butter! [I think I've posted this before]
5] I love tea...hot tea, and ICED tea.
6] For the first six years of my life I was hospitalized ---off and on, like two or three times a year...A LOT!!
