§ I only wish for a better anthem! IMHO

CLICK BUTTON to join!!

In honor of USA's Veteran's Day today and USMC birthday yesterday, I choose a patriotic song. I, personally, hereby solemnly swear....this song, for me, should be our national anthem---

LINK to SONG

O Beautiful...for spacious skies

...for amber waves of grain

...for purple mountains' majesty

...above the fruited plains

AMERICA, AMERICA
God Shed his grace on thee....

And crowned thy good, with brotherhood--

---from sea to shining sea!!

Photos: top to bottom- Ships' channel at Port Aransas..."Aransas Pass" - Sea Grass going to seed/grain on sand dune [Newport Beach Access] - Scanned photo from an album of older photo by about 40 years...Sangre de Cristo Mountains Colorado/New Mexico border - Goose Island State Park in Texas --oldest Oak Tree [with the 'fruit' of acorns each and every year] estimated over 1000 years old. The 'brotherhood' is one I scanned from our photo albums; the USMC Iwo Jima Memorial near Arlington, VA. And the 'sea to shining sea' is [left] a scanned photo of LaJolla California [near San Diego and the first time I saw the Pacific Ocean] and the Gulf[right], a shrimp boat, in Corpus city's Marina. I couldn't find my photos of Ocean City Maryland ---my first ever time I saw the Atlantic Ocean when landing in Baltimore, MD many years ago..that would've truly be SEA to shining SEA.

The Lyrics:
The words of this song came from a poem of the same title by Katharine Lee Bates (1859 -1929). She wrote the poem in 1893 and then revised it twice; first in 1904 and then in 1913. Bates was a teacher, poet and author of several books including America the Beautiful and Other Poems which was published in 1911. A trek to the summit of Pikes Peak in Colorado is believed to have inspired Katharine Lee Bates to pen the lyrics to "America the Beautiful." Hence, I scanned a photo of Colorado Mountains!!!! And the reason I wish this song was our National Anthem...it is easier to sing...it's not flubbed up by so many singers, and it tells it all!!!!! Besides, the music to our Anthem is 'stolen' from an old British drinking song....if America was breaking away from the British rule...why then did we choose a British Song?!! Oh, and my favorite version is sung by the late, great Ray Charles [the link provided at the beginning of my post]...........

Now, you didn't think I'd pick just ANY OL' song for being so close to Halloween did you? Of course it has to be a 'themesong' for the occasion...

- - -

Boys and girls of every age
Wouldn't you like to see something strange?
Come with us and you will see
This, our town of Halloween

This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Pumpkins scream in the dead of night

This is Halloween, everybody make a scene
Trick or treat till the neighbors gonna die of fright
It's our town, everybody scream
In this town of Halloween

I am the one hiding under your bed
Teeth ground sharp and eyes glowing red
I am the one hiding under yours stairs
Fingers like snakes and spiders in my hair

This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween, Halloween, Halloween, Halloween

Nearly 6 million viewers have viewed this since it's publishing on You Tube.

Photos: A long-time-standing and still operating drug store in town [yep, it still has a soda fountain too!] had this village on display...for Halloween!!! So, naturally, my nature and love for the season had me grabbing my ever-ready cellphone----and snapping away and turning GREEN wanting each piece in MY 'HALLOWEEN' home! LOL

THURSDAY THUNKS

Today's questions are brought to you by the color purple, witches' brooms, the number 800-555-1000, and hootin' anni.

1] We all love snuggly things, right? In your own words, explain how the "X" and "O" became symbols for kisses and hugs! For me, the x is kinda like what you see around Valentine's day...the image of a heart when two kiss-------hence the x is two pairs of lips 'kissing'. Now the o for hugs...to me, would be that you have to get your arms around a certain person or object...hence the o is a hug.

2] Besides eliminating sticks, what would you put in a non-stick pan? Have you ever wondered how 'they' achieved having teflon adhere to the pan when it's non-stick? Okay, right now, I'd go for some eggs and sausage!!

3] x=y over pi squared. What are your thoughts on crematoriums having discounts on those that die in fires? Absolutely, even in the afterlife a bargain is a bargain!!

4] Tongue twisters are fun...but, it's torture to try to say lisp with that "s" in the word. What is your favorite tongue twister? Risque answers get extra credit! Not necessarily 'risque' [remember, I grew up with three older brothers!]....but perhaps rude or crude maybe?======
Mrs Puggy Wuggy has a square cut punt.
    Not a punt cut square,
    Just a square cut punt.
It's round in the stern and blunt in the front.
Mrs Puggy Wuggy has a square cut punt.

5] Cold weather is coming up. If it's zero degrees Fahrenheit, and tomorrow night it's predicted to be twice as cold, what temperature will it be? As Bud would say..."Colder that a priest's penis". But that doesn't fit in these days now does it? They're not so cold afterall!!! So, if y'all go out in the cold, make sure you bring your nut-tens!!

6] Your significant other is upset with you, would you rather be skating on thin ice or be in hot water? Why? Hot water, I could take advantage of that situation simply by adding a bit of bubble bath to the scenery. Calgon take me away.

7] What's worse, expecting the unexpected or being a wise guy? I think 'wise guy'...only 'cause you'd be expecting the not so unexpected...correct?

8] What brand of vacuum cleaner sucks the best? Mine really sucks!!! I ride around on mine this time of year!!! More powerful than a locomotive!! Able to leap tall buildings!!

9] How is it one careless match can start a forest fire, but it takes a whole box to start a campfire? Do you like playing with fire? Depends on the fire....makes me think of Billy Joel's "We didn't start the fire".

10] Toys R us...what was your favorite toy? My souped up positraction 409...go granny go granny, GO!

11] Halloween is near...let's go grave robbing....what would you like to find? An emerald the size of my fist would be nice, but seriously, I hope to find DEAD people...not live ones.

12] Do you wake up or open your eyes first? I think I'm half awake before my eyes partially open...

13] What mask would you wear to a Halloween Party? Something scary. Sarah Palin? Actually, I'm gonna go 'cutesy' this year....you'll see.

Well, Wednesday the day was really stressful for me....a hacking cough and lack of sleep. I don't think I slept a good solid hour total on Tuesday evening. Perhaps 'cause I went to bed right after NCIS---too early. But I was drained. Wednesday I tried to nap, but sleep just wouldn't come to me. Bud cooked some chicken in the crock pot and made some chicken noodle soup from it. And, taking double doses of vitamin C, I hope this cold/flu goes away soon!!! Thanks for the well wishes. I'm gonna try again right now...to get some much needed sleep.

'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain.

THURSDAY THUNKS

1. Berleen is sending you away again. You can travel anywhere in the world; one destination per day from Friday through Monday. Where do you go and why? Friday....England, Saturday...Scotland, and Sunday thru to the wee hours of Monday....IRELAND!!! [and the rest of Monday'll be in NORTHERN Ireland]

2. Would you keep a secret from the closest person to you if you thought it was in their best interest? Oh yes....if it's in the best interest of both parites, not just THE person, but in the best interest of myself also.

3. Tell me one odd/interesting fact about you that you have not revealed in some other crazy meme. I can just about mouth the words/script to the entire movie --- Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid! Even 'cue in' the music.

4. You can have three wishes (for yourself, so forget all the 'world peace etc' BS) - what are they? 1] be two sizes smaller 2] eat anything I desire 3] have a house on the pacific coast -free and clear!

5. If you could change anything about your living situation, would you? What do you mean 'situation'? With my spouse? With WHERE I live? What...that was too vague!

6. Who is your favorite character from a comic strip? Please post one strip for us to laugh at. I really enjoy Mother Goose and Grimm...here is a recent one I scanned and saved:

7. Now we have found you dead. What five people do you want to MEET in Heaven? I doubt if I'll meet anyone....I like a lot of heat ---the programmed GPS'll take me south.

8. So since you are dead, what will the title of your life story be? She gave it all plus a hoot.

9. Word association time! What's the first thing that comes to mind when you see the word pleasure? 8 or more hours sleep!

10. Kimber is by the Arizona ocean. She finds a message in a bottle. What does it say? I lived in Tucson....that "but it's a dry heat" really is BS in the summers!!!---and the bottle would be floating across the drifting, sifting sands since the 'ocean' is nothing but beach!!!

11. Would you like to guest host Thunks one week? Answer “yes” here and email us here! If the answer is “no” who do you think would be a great guest host? I'd like to, but I know I could not come up with those catchy questions ya'll are so good at doing! My NOMINATION would be Harriet....I just KNOW she'd come up with witty, different questions for us to THUNK over.

THEME SONG

ALL ALONE AM I
[link for you tube -sung by Brenda Lee]

All alone am I ever since your goodbye
All alone with just a beat of my heart
People all around but I don't hear a sound...

- - -

Photo: When I saw this, "All Alone Am I" song, sung by the late Brenda Lee, came to my mind immediately. A lonely, very 'sad' turtle [and photo op for our themesong this week] that some child left on the beach....so many people all around, walking the shores, but it's all alone now with no one to love it anymore! And only the ONE PHOTO was/is needed.
Taken: on Aransas Beach Port Aransas, Texas

...and speaking of "Left Behind" -as my blog title states for the day-, [by Tim LaHaye and some other dude] the book series of the Earth's Apocalypse...I think there were something like 15 or 16 books in the series, did anyone read the entire group of books? I started reading them long ago, they were pretty good until about the 4th or 5th book, and I came to a point of view for me personally that this is taking too long...just how long does it take for the 'world to end'? Never did go further.

THURSDAY THUNKS

1. It's election time. The moon is currently waxing crescent and is 37% full. What do you do to decide who to vote for? Usually try to attend campaign rallies, or now that I have the convenience of www...I usually get my bearings through being online and researching what I want answered.

2. Everybody is afraid of something. Do you play a musical instrument? A couple...guitar and piano. Altho, it's been a long time. My guitar just sits by idly...and I sold the piano when we relocated.

3. Everyone loves some kind of music. What is an irrational fear that you have? Most would say it's irrational...but I fear water above my head, and looking DOWN from heights.

4. Back to politics. Who do you think will be next president after Obama whether he gets a second term or not? As long as it's NOT from Alaska...I'll be okay. Unless it moves to another state...then, wherever it calls 'residence'.

5. What is the most unusual piece of furniture that you own? A beautiful eight foot high hand-carved liquor hutch from Old Mexico that we towed home from Nogales, Mexico. I now use it for knick-knacks and books.

6. Everybody gets angry at times. When was your last time and what did it concern? Not really angry. I rarely get angry [it takes forever for me to get that perturbed on something]...but I did get upset with this scenario: I talk, Bud ignores, I repeat my talk, still ignores...then, I hafta scream to be heard...he doesn't look, but will reply "I Guess". Slap him across the head!!!

7. Do you have cousins? If yes, are you or have you been close? I couldn't begin to count how many cousins I have [Irish and Catholic y'know] ----but I have remained close to my favorite [now deceased] aunt's three boys...all my age.

8. What was the last song that you sang in the shower?
Lenny White's "Away Go Troubles Down the Drain"?!! I really don't sing.

9. What question would you like me to ask next week? Speaking of foreign languages...do you speak any other language besides your native tongue? Speaking of tongue, are you signed up to be an organ donor? Do you have high arches or flat feet? Who knows----these just popped off the top of my head. Speaking of head....well, we won't go there.

10. What's in your left pocket right now? Nothing...empty, zilch, nada.

11. When was the last time that you laughed till you cried? Taking pictures of Tahoe our cat....she and the upcoming saga of my vodka gimlet [you must return on Saturday for my Camera Critter blog to see]

12. What song would you like played at your funeral? I don't want a funeral. The cost of that is silly if you ask me...doesn't make sense when I wouldn't be there alive to enjoy the party...so, absolutely no funeral, no music.

13. How did you discover Thursday Thunks the first time that you played? Someone's blog. Funny questions, funny answers!!== ones that made me think...guess that's why y'all call it THUNKS.

Thursday ThemeSong

I took my troubles down to Madame Ruth
You know that gypsy with the gold-capped tooth

She's got a pad down on Thirty-Fourth and Vine
Sellin' little bottles of Love Potion Number Nine

I told her that I was a flop with chicks
I've been this way since 1956

She looked at my palm and she made a magic sign

She said "What you need is Love Potion Number Nine"

She bent down and turned around and gave me a wink
She said "I'm gonna make it up right here in the sink"

It smelled like turpentine, it looked like Indian ink
I held my nose, I closed my eyes, I took a drink

I didn't know if it was day or night
I started kissin' everything in sight
But when I kissed a cop down on Thirty-Fourth and Vine

He broke my little bottle of Love Potion Number Nine

LOVE POTION #9 Lyrics

photos: Gypsy is my sister in her Halloween Costume recently [shhhh!! Don't tell her I scanned it and put it on my blog!] "Love Potion #9" is actually a "Witches Brew" bottle from my Halloween Collection that I colored in and added love potion and cat...Me at the ripe old age...1956!---the part about it being flop with chicks...my mom didn't know much about HAIR for chicks, did she? Guess I shoulda added to the lyrics....chick's styles or something. LOL My palm....and bathroom sink with 'indian ink' water added from my PSP computer software. And, do you know how difficult it was to find a cop car? Usually when we're out and about, I see dozens of 'em!!!! Not this time, when I wanted a photo!!! Finally tho, the city's finest...NOT! Also, with the computer software, I cut the bottle and 'broke it to pieces'.

THURSDAY THUNKS

1. When you snuck out of your house for the first time, who were you meeting and why? First off, I must say that is the cutest, darnedest, and sweetest graphic... of the little one sneakin' out... y'all found and used on the Thunks' hub blog. Loved it. Okay, now, on with the show....I remember once I sneaked out after everyone else had gone to bed. I actually thought I was being very quiet. BUT!!! When I returned home around 2 a.m., my father was sitting in the dark...and smacked me good. I was put in solitary confinement [grounded!] for a month. Oh and the reason it all happened that way was 'cause I told my parents I wasn't going anywhere that night.

2. Tell us about the last time that you got your heart broken. Extra points if you publish their naked photo. Between thee and me...someone told me to #@!! off.

3. Tell us about someone you know named Bob. (Yes, we know this is a stupid question. Stupid is what we do best.) Actually, my first ever sweetheart was BOB!!! In fourth grade. I still have a couple of the gifts he gave me way back when!! And then, the star quarterback in high school was a different Bob...and I dated him. I used to sing "I wanna be Bobby's girl" all the time 'til my youngest older brother made fun of it.

4. We just found the perfect retail space. We are giving you the store. What’s its name and what do you sell? Probably my art work, my crafts and crocheted goods and I'd call it ....what else? But, Hootin' Anni's!

5. Tell us about your last “friend with benefits". Someone just shipped me so many goodies in the mail....Wasabe Peas, dried Mangoes and coffee from a Hawai'ian plantation. All so very yummy!! Y'know who you are!!! And I thank you from the bottom of my heart too... I know it's not the 'benefits' that is implied in this question...but that's it. I consider friendship a benefit, actually. Period.

6. Kimber worries a lot. What was the last this[thing] that you worried about? A court date about a lawsuit I was dealing with...but it was settled out of court, I was the victor.

7. Do you believe “once a cheater, always a cheater”? Most definitely!

8. Tell us about moving out of your parent’s home. Who did you move in with? Ummmmmmmmm, about 6 months of college, and then marriage...so I moved out of mom and dad's and then moved in with my hubby of 41+ years.

9. What was your most recent regret? I'm not sure I regret anything. If I do, I can't think of anything.

10. Berleen recently ranted on face book about having to got to parent-teacher conferences when your child has great grades. What was the stupidest meeting that you most recently endured? Here again, I can't think of anything.

11. Do you collect anything? Ohhhhhhhhh, too funny. Do I collect anything? Look around, I love Halloween witches and Santas...between the two of those, probably close to 300 by now. And Easter egg cups is a new fetish. But what I collect most is fat cells!!!

12. Tell us about a time when your heart was broken. A loss of loved ones...several times over in my life.

13. Is there something that you’d like to complete before the end of 2010? This is the end of the meme for the week, right? I'm gonna complete this come hell or high water before 2010 [That's actually 8:10 PM!!!! -military time]

THURSDAY THUNKS

101. When was the last time you went to the doctor? Do you like your doctor? Last year, yes I like both my cardiologist and my primary care doctors...as far as doctors go, that is.

201. My back is itching, will you scratch it for me? My arm is only so long...probably I can't reach.

301. Do you have nice handwriting? I guess. I've been told that ever since 3rd grade penmanship.

401. We are sending you to either New Zealand or Canada, which one do you choose? I'd prefer New Zealand...more tropical than Canada.

501. Do you sing in the shower? No

601. Have you ever been streaking? If so, how far did you streak and did anyone see you? Ya...from the bathroom vanity room to the bathtub!!!

701. How soon is too soon for Christmas decorations and music playing in the stores? I like having Christmas out early in the stores for crafting. It takes a lot of time to make stuff for decorations and I need them in stores early so I have them done for the holidays.

801. If you celebrated Halloween as a kid what was the costume you wore at 5? I don't think I 'did Halloween' that early...if I did, I can't remember what costume my mom put me in. I'm pretty sure I was too young to be out in the streets---so I'd be home with my parents answering the door and handing out candy.

901. How many cavities have you had in your life? Dunno. Not many.

1001. Berleen and Bud come to Arizona to visit Kimber. Who do you think will decide it's too hot here first? Berleen...women are not as tolerant of heat.

1101. Who do you think will ask TT questions next week? Pro'lly Kimber.

THURSDAY THUNKS

Well, reading these questions, I'd say somebody got up on the wrong side of the bed!!!! read on---

1. We are changing your name. You have no choice. You get to pick it, but we must approve it. You must have a good reason. Ok, what is the name and reason? YOU'RE FIRED!!! How 'bout Donald. As in Trump. I'd like to trump this question. And...ummmmm, if I have NO CHOICE, that would be the reason!

2. I say Shotgun, you say? Wedding? Only 'cause the terminology you meant for this, I think, is "I call Shotgun!!!"

3. We are sending you away. Africa or Mexico? Been to Mexico 'hundreds' o' times so it'd be Africa. As in photo safari.

4. When you're home alone, do you still close the door when you use the restroom? I never close the door now...so why should I be any different.

5. Berleen told me that I have to ask a mean question. Tell us about a horrible memory. I'll just say "heart problems" for me.

6. What are your plans for October? Enjoy it!!

7. Is there anyone that you regret ever meeting ? Not that I recall.

8. You have 3 months left to live, what do you do? Who knows. I'll face that when it comes down to it. Heck, I might be told that in a hospital bed tied up to tubes...or I may be free to do as I please...so, who knows!!

9. You wake up in an unfamiliar place, what is your first reaction? "Where am I"?

10. Your phone rings at 4am, just before you kill this person, who do you expect it would be? First, 'killing sounds wrong'----I wouldn't know....that's the last thing I do when I turn off the lights at night...shut the ringer off so I am not disturbed!! I wouldn't know it was ringing 'til I get up in the morning, and turn it back on.

11. You're having a bad day, what one thing can make your day better? A hot fudge banana split? Yum!!

12. You are doing a meme written by the blogosphere's shadiest character. Is there anything else that you should be doing right now? No. After this summer, SHADE and shadier and shadiest sounds supreme!!!

13. If money were not a problem, where would you like to live? I'd build my own world....if money is no problem...make it climate perfect....have gardeners....a cook, a maid, a chauffeur, a clothes designer....my own private yacht, airplane. Perfection at the cost of luxury.

Pick lyrics from any recorded song...incorporate your photos to only a few of the lyrics!! Easy Peasy!!! There are MILLIONS of songs from which to choose........

My ThemeSong this week is:

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,

And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops

Away above the chimney tops

That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can't I?

OVER THE RAINBOW--sung and recorded: by Judy Garland in the Wizard of Oz

PHOTOS: A few of the photos this week aren't all that sharp...but I'm using 'em anyway...[look closely at the 'rainbow on the cloud'! It's there...just above the two birds (birds fly, over the rainbow?)---ON the cloud. It was MUCH more pretty and defined than the cellphone captured!!] The 'skies are blue' is a sunrise photo from our front porch--with faint stars in the corner; also part of the song lyrics. The bluebird photo is cropped from one I posted a few months back--an Indigo Bunting in our rose bush. Chimney is ours...lemon drops are a favorite hard candy for me...I have 'em on hand all the time--------

THURSDAY THUNKS

10. What number blog post is this for you? The editing page says 1470, but there are a few ThemeSong posts in draft, and I'm too lazy to subtract 'em right now; I just woke up.

9. You are driving down a road and your GPS says turn right, but the road has a Dead End sign. You check your GPS and according to it's map, there is a road at the end of the Dead End road that you need to turn onto. Do you follow the GPS? I think the car must'a been stolen then....I don't have GPS. Either that, or I drank more than I thought I did!!

8. If you had a $2 bill, would you spend it? Sure! It's not worth the paper it's printed on...so why not spend it?

7. When there is nobody else around and you sneeze or cough, do you cover your mouth? Bless me!!! I'm a creature of habit...and, habits die hard y'know.

6. You are a DJ at a radio station and your first guest is Bud... what is the first question you are going to ask him? "Tell me Bud...is 'Bud' a nickname or did your parents have that put on your birth certificate?" Second question..."And, how much Weiser [wiser] are you than the rest of your gender?"

5. Have you ever stopped to help a stranger with a flat tire? Yes, [I grew up with three older brothers, I know how!!!] and some have also stopped and helped ME! Do unto others...I'd appreciate help and would try to reciprocate.

4. You get on an airplane and you find that your seat neighbor is Kimber... what do you talk about or do you ignore her completely? I'd talk...but of what I don't really know how the conversation would flow. In fact, thinking about it, I'm not sure I'd even KNOW it was Kimber in the first place.

3. Have you ever rode an elephant? I'd say 'ridden'. Ride is an irregular verb, you'd say I rode an elephant, OR I HAVE RIDDEN [past participle] And to answer the question, no.

2. Time to bitch & moan! What is your biggest complaint about your current friends on Facebook? I only have an account for family photo shares...so, my 'friends' are family. No complaints.

1. School is back in session for all little girls and boys now. What, in your life, changes when kids go back to school? The Flashing Lights in the School Zone. I have no kids, but as a driver I need to heed the law.
