FOUR
When I read the theme for this week, I immediately thought of this one photo that I took about 7 or 8 years ago in the Arizona Sonoran Desert. It's just west of Tucson Arizona, before you begin to ascend into the Tucson Mountains heading toward the Western slope entering the Saguaro National Park. So I had to dig through the many albums of mine to find it and scan it for today. Dusk was upon us as we drove toward home and these candelabras ---called candelabras...the blossoms of the huge yucca plants, caught my eye and I had to pull off to the shoulder of the highway to take the photo. They were nearly silhouetted by darkness falling and a few hours yet before the moon disappeared over the horizon. It's one of my favorite pictures of the desert landscape. All the hot, dry heat, and yet nature can produce such awe in the beauty of the waxy, ivory-colored blossoms!! The depth and height of these magnificent creations is astounding...these particular yuccas are probably 10 to 12 feet high [300-365 centimeters]. And count 'em....there are FOUR!

Lovely photo, and a beautiful awe inspiring place. We have Yucca like plants here in southern UK, but I think they are called cordalines, very similar leafage but the flowers are flatter and nearer the foliage. (Same waxy colour) We can only grow Yucca indoors.

We have Yuccas here, but I don't believe I've ever seen them do this. Possibly ours are a different variety or maybe our climate (much more temperate than a desert) suppresses this kind of growth.
