§ This is NOT a Trump Witch Hunt....It's My OWN Witch Hunt....

This post has nothing to do with the political references to witch hunts.  But on  August 1st of every year for decades, I try to get to Tuesday Morning for my OWN witch hunt. This year, I bought only TWO there and then the next day I went to T J Maxx Home Goods and found two more. My collection grows beyond the century mark of witch/crafts. I showed you the witch gnome a while back, and I will share the other three now...
Meet Amethyst, [dressed in purple]

...Sapphire with a blue black gown. [and blue moons and stars, but the camera wouldn't pick them up]

...and Opal in white

And being the first week in October, the best month of the year, I started bringing out some Halloween goodies to decorate. I have to kinda tone down a bit because of Isaiah's curious ways, but I can't just let the 'holiday' go by unnoticed. Next blog, more stuff coming....

One more thing...I'm not sure I've ever shared these two wee ones. They're witches of course, but faeries!

If I have posted pictures of them, forgive my forgetfulness and let me reintroduce them: From King Arthur Legend Witch Morgan la Fay, ummmm....Meet Morgan and LeFay

§ Fantasy and Legendary

Outdoors, I have a small menagerie of fairy statuary. Small in size and small in number. I think 6 or 7. They're hidden amongst the roses, hibiscus and plumbago bush just under the computer room window. I like fairies and the fantasy connected to them. It seems that, as far as I can find, the origin of the folklore tales hail from Ireland. And to some, they are considered Pagan in rituals and belief. Whatever they are, and wherever they 'came from'...I still like 'em. And I, personally, think they're cute, whimsical, and perhaps a shade ornery. But, who's counting. When I spied these in the garden shop the other day, I couldn't resist. There were three different sweeties; I picked up two. Took 'em home and set them outdoors. Two days later, I tested 'em. You see, I'm not going to keep them outdoors...they were, for me personally, purchased for indoor decor, even tho they are called 'garden stakes' and supposedly 'weather proof'. They're costly, and I don't want them faded or ruined in any way. But, after outdoors soakin' up the sunshine ---there was a method to my madness. You see, they're not only beautifully handcrafted, they're also SOLAR ---and--- fiber optic!!! See what I mean? Check 'em out:

Since they're so pretty and colorful, I went back and bought the third version. The third one is dressed in purple. But I haven't had time to get it outdoors to soak up the solar power ---no sun the last couple days. She remains in her box out of harm's way for now. By the way, I'll be adding the third to the other two in due time...I have them in a huge basket with trailing wisteria...using them for a night-light. The optics will continue to work through the night from 8 to 10 hours before a recharge is needed. And the color array is just pretty darned cool, too...red, green, pink, orange, blue, purple and yellow. And not a 'disturbing' motion nor overly-bright...it's pleasant and peaceful movements. I slept like a log. LOL

Tina, at Tina's Picstory has a challenge for this week´s topic. It is *black & white* ---

According to Wikipedia [one of my favorite sites for researching] the origin of mermaids are as follows: "The first known mermaid stories appeared in Assyria, ca. 1000 BC. The goddess Atargatis, mother of Assyrian queen Semiramis, loved a mortal shepherd and unintentionally killed him. Ashamed, she jumped into a lake to take the form of a fish, but the waters would not conceal her divine beauty. Thereafter, she took the form of a mermaid-human above the waist, fish below—though the earliest representations of Atargatis showed her as a fish with a human head and arm." And according to legends and sightings of such a creature was first reported and established in the 17th century. But, what BLOGGLES my mind is as early as this year [link], there was a registered report!!! Could it be that mermaids do exist?!!! "In February 2012, work on two reservoirs near the towns of Gokwe and Mutare in Zimbabwe stopped when workers refused to work there, claiming that mermaids had hounded them away from the sites. The claim was reported by Samuel Sipepa Nkomo, Water Resources Minister".

There are several gift shops and souvenir tourist traps stores on the islands. But, one in particular is such a wonderful fabulous place to find the unusual and very unique items for sale. I love to go there once in a while to check out the 'seaworthy' trinkets such as wind chimes, glass dolphins, etc. Bud likes to go searching for a new mermaid. Being the Navy guy that he is, and the legends of Navy/sailors seeing and becoming part of the folklore of mermaids, he has a small collection. Well, we haven't stopped at this store for over a year's time, and last we were on the island, after combing the beaches without much luck, we stopped there before crossing the causeway to the mainland. There, he found a treasure [pictured above made into 'black and white' from a color photo *inset* --she's pewter and heavy for her size - perched on a glass globe]. By the way, the store is called Sea Treasures, I believe. If you ever get to my neck of the woods, and get a chance go to the several islands that make up the sand barrier...I'd recommend this gift shop. It's not difficult to find either...there is a colossal mermaid fountain that covers the entire store front. You can't miss it.

By the way, the very store mentioned above also had a small container filled with blown glass hearts ---you know me and everything 'heart shaped'....well, the little sign above the bin had posted "Mermaid Kisses". Keeping us both happy. I had to get one. They're very tiny as you can see...fitting between my finger and thumb! Oh, and they came in every color imaginable! Put THAT in your pocket...a kiss from YOUR mermaid!

Karmyn is hosting our Fun Monday this week. She asks of us to show our prize winning gardens...or what's growing on our patio in a pot....

I have shown so many things that are growing in our yard. [Here, here, here, here, and here for example - to mention a few]. Tho I don't have a veggie garden at all...I do love to have flowers in bloom. Right now, being in such a deep drought in our area of the world, nothing much is blooming profusely. Everything looks pretty sickly...the flowers still bloom of course, but the size of the blossoms are stuttering [Like, oops! I'm supposed to bloom, but can't!] and wilt before the day's over. NOTHING compared to when Spring was here just months ago. Instead, I thought I'd show you what is 'growing' out of our flower bed stone wall!!! I've had these little creatures hiding in pots and sections of the garden for decades [I've blogged about a few of them before]....but one day, I began to move 'em around so I could pull weeds. When I did, I sat one on the stone wall and it blended so wonderfully with the 'color' of the stone that I liked it too much to have 'em put back in the garden area...the soil. I went around the yard, and collected them...and then, broke off the stakes that are used to stick into the ground.....Bud sanded the chipped pedestals off to make them flush with the figurine's body....I then, went around the wall and perched them at random spots....

First, let me show you a small section...fuller view of the stone-walled flower bed [the white at the lower edge of the photo]....

So now, I bet you're curious.
Here is what I have 'growing' out of the cracks in the wall.....

They [miniature fairies and gnomes] are so perfectly matched in color, you can see them only when up close...so whimsical, it gives a magical aura to the back yard wall. Oh, and I think over the years, I've purchased these in the different Wal Mart garden shops for 'cheap'.

Once Upon a Time....

ONCE UPON A TIME I had a lot of these miniature gnomes and fairies that enchanted our garden. Now, with the erosion and time, only a few are left to make our world a bit more magical. On some days, when the winds are still and all is quiet, I can hear the faint giggles and carryings-on of such whimsical ventures they have; flitting around the flowers and playing tricks on one another...Shhhh, be real quiet and perhaps you can hear the bewitching antics and feel the thrill of the sunny day here in our imaginary, mythical and mystical world in the Hootin' Anni's compound called a back yard....

Once Upon a time in the land of mine
Fairies were aplenty
and Gnomes were hiding

Now their wings are kept together with bubble gum and twine
Fairy friends down to 6 but once were twenty...
and the Gnomes? The gnomes're still residing.

~ The End

I was pretty upset yesterday afternoon when a bunch of contract workers came to the door and told us they needed to dig a trench in our backyard!! The utilities easement goes 10' on each side of our subdivision's yards [both sides of the fence line] In fact I was a bit furious....why didn't they go to the yard behind us and tear THEIR yard up? But no....they wanted to come in and tear up our sod, and our flower beds to run a line for the neighbor; he is renovating his house,...making the garage into an office. Well, la di da!! I knew I hated phones, now I have another reason. Well, anyway, I was outside with the workers the entire time...making sure they didn't dig in the wrong place and tear up our sprinkler system and do too much damage to the turf. When they were done after about 3 hours, I stood right beside 'em, making them replace the sod and put everything back where they found it.

While I was outside with them, and trying to stay out of their way and still watch them...I sketched a drawing of a religious picture I want to start painting. I'll need to scan my sketch or take a photo of it to show....in the meantime, I'm going to clip it up to my easel and start painting this morning after the sun comes up and there's enough light for me to work on it. I can't wait!!

[the photo is NOT our yard, I didn't even think to take photos! --I found this on the internet looking for a trencher like they had to use here.]
