§ Blucher....

Just a photo album of my walking the park perimeter in search of birds! It was a delightful morning, a bit sultry with high humidity, but bearable. The wildflowers were the main focus and new Spring leaves of the trees from winter kill. I saw very few birds, to my disappointment, but I got a little outdoor exercise before I had to leave for grocery shopping which has become a hassle [a chore!] with the price hikes, my gray matter [brain], working as a calculator, is in overdrive with this task these days. It gets a bit over-heated. LOL...

In the collage of ten photos [NOT the first photo published of the pathway], the first image of the tree--there is a yellow-bellied sapsucker [bird -woodpecker] barely visible, can you find it?  And then, with my heart search fetish...the cardinal photo; notice the heart shaped leaves?

§ Puff....

On Saturday, thru Ebird, a notice of a rare [Tundra] duck was sighted in our Bay waters!! So, Sunday morning, I took a drive to the area to see if I could spot it! No luck, as the ducks on the water were so far away, even with binoculars I couldn't decipher which duck was which, and my tripod and scope were at home...100s of them. Not to mention birders galore from all walks of life galivanting around in hopes of seeing the rarity themselves. I still walked some along the shore and along the Naval Air Station Road. Then hopped back in the car when it began to get mighty warm out there in the sun [83⁰F before noon!] and drove to another park to finish my day's step count....
I encountered a few wildflowers and as I turned to get to the pathway, a dead tree made its appearance and from where I stood on the park's lawn, I saw a fire breathing dragon?!!!

§ To Blog or Not to Blog...

Let me begin with a bit of humor!
I need it!!!

I haven't been blogging for a while. Nor much of anything. A bit of winter depression has set in over the last week, and being outdoors seeing all the winter kill of our 'tropical' plants just sets me in a foul mood! And I have been trying to avoid the Chinese Spy Balloon news...wondering if this was really legit...so many questions arose while reading news online from several sources. Why on earth, if it was a spy balloon, did it take so long for the USA to shoot it down?!! Another thougt came across my mind was that China owns a lot of land in Montana...did they actually launch it from THERE or was it really a weather balloon. Waiting forever to blow it out of the sky while all along China is collecting info through the onboard computer?!!? I just can't get myself to trust our OWN government any more.

I've actually taken my word of not doing any interior painting for the past week or so. I am still recouping from back pain and kinks in my neck. LOL That's my excuse and I'm sticking by it!

This past week, little, disruptive of a day, tasks were in order:
  • pulling weeds
  • getting my driver's license renewed since it expires on my birthday, the 9th of February, it's good until 2031!
  • making a pot of baked beans from scratch [a day's job]
  • grocery shopping for the month
  • reading
  • a little decorating around the house for Valentine's Day

  • catching up on laundry
  • walking in the park
  • online jigsaw puzzles
  • dusting, vacuuming, scrubbing, etc.
  • watching the series 1883
  • ...things like that!
  • I have gone, and did a small limited time of, walking. It finally warmed up on Sunday, near 80 degrees [F] as it should be here...but another wintry cold snap is predicted. Went around the flower beds and even in the lawn and pulled thistle Sunday enjoying the sunshine. Tried to watch the Pro Bowl Flag Football...what a waste of time money and effort televising THAT!

Went to the bookstore and picked up my ordered book [cheaper going through the bookstore than ordering from amazon!] This book I've been searching the shelves at the store for some time now, and not finding it...finally ordered it....the book? Well, a memoir of a Holocaust survivor and her CAT!!! I've only read about 6 chapters, but it will, I think, become a page turner. What can go wrong with an added guardian angel feline?!!!
The incredible true story of a young girl who navigated dangerous forests, outwitted Nazi soldiers, and survived against all odds with the companionship of a stray cat. Growing up in the Polish village of Tarnogrod on the fringes of a deep pine forest, Mala Szorer had the happiest childhood she could have hoped for. But at the age of twelve, as the German invasion begins...

PS...at the park, looking for birds, I spied the very first Texas Bluebonnet for the season!!!

    Did you miss me?

I am going to conclude the series of posts of our trip to Ireland with this entry! Personally, I am getting tired with it. Keep in mind I took over 1300 photos [just on the camera...not to mention the hundreds on the cellphone] in the 15 days we were there, and I am STILL working on them to resize and get in chronological order [addendum: I finished them and all done...Monday afternoon!! Time to celebrate]. I planned on putting them all on a disk when complete and then a flash drive. Yes, I know, there is "Cloud", and backup galore online...but, I want the safety of a disk/drive also in case accounts go belly up or disappear on me. I want MY OWN secure collection of photos. It was a long work in progress, and I do have a life outside of Ireland where I feel compelled to share OTHER little ditties like the destruction and re-'building' of our home exterior, witch hunt/dolls for the season, yard work, etc. I haven't taken the time to walk much other than re-landscaping what was torn up from the work done, and most of all NO serious trips; birding...boredom has overtook me. With serious lack of blog gumption. So, this is the last. And it's eclectic:

This photo above was left huge so you could open and read the history...

...some colorful flowers along the way. At the most northerly pub in Northern Ireland, our guide showed us "wild lilac". I took a photo of it, but have yet to find anything even close to "wild". When and if I do, I will share the gorgeous bush.

    ...a bit of Irish Culture...

...lastly, as you know Bud's ancestors came from Northern Ireland. The day we stopped for a jaunt downhill to the sea at Giant's Causeway, I took off by myself. I had carried a Rx vial with me from the very beginning of my trip. It was in a zippered compartment of my boho bag. I walked off the beaten path away from all the tourists, and sat down, opened the vial, and scooped up some soil from his homeland as a gift for him. I got it thru all the TSA in Ireland AND America. Got it home and put it in a small glass container, tied ribbon around it [Northern Ireland colors] and a County Antrim lapel pin. It's now displayed properly [and I hafta say, proudly by Bud] on our mantel. Also, somewhere along the way, I found a white, green, and orange stone [one each] for the colors of Ireland's flag. They are polished and next to the jar of Irish soil.  The photo directly below is where I got the soil.

I didn't shop much for souvenirs tho. For Bud, I found Titanic Shot Glasses, and an Irish Coffee cup. For me, I bought an Irish linen hankerchief and spent way too much [hundreds of pounds] for a pair of Ireland's symbol...earrings made of mined Irish Gold [yellow gold AND rose gold] ...the harp.   They are still in the box, so when I get them out to wear, I will get a photo.  All that I bought were either small enough to put in my luggage or carry as a carry-on bag. Nothing needed to be shipped!! Yay.

This concludes my once in a lifetime trip to Ireland! A gorgeous sunset from the plane's window bid us adieu from the "mother land". I'm definitely glad to be home. And tho the trip was fun, and exciting, I am like Dorothy "There's NO Place Like Home".

    § ....Flower Foto Cont...

Ironcially, Andrea posted in her comment yesterday on my blog post that she'd like to "see me draw this". Well, guess what? I was just beginning to sketch it. Bud and I mowed and edged our lawn in the front before it got too hot [nice morning breeze was keeping the temp tolerable]. Afterward, when I came back in to cool down and drink water, I grabbed my sketch pad and pencil, opened my blog to the photo and began drawing...

I finished it after lunch dishes...

I titled it Amarillo by Morning!
