Vertigo?

I could easily live in Port Aransas [aerial view of park courtesy of Google Images]. Weekly, I take a day trip there. It is one of my favorite nearby areas. If it weren't for the location where hurricanes and devastating surge from storms hit, and the lack of amenities of a larger city, I'd be there as a resident in a heart beat!! This past week, I walked along the trails of Robert's Point Park. And when there, I noticed that finally, the observation tower has been replaced from the damages that the hurricane back three years ago ripped it apart. Naturally I had to climb it! From atop the tower, you can look up the ship channel while watching the ferry boats carrying vehicles to and from Port A [historically named Ropesville] to Aransas Pass. Or another direction, watch the tanker ships traverse the channel and turn toward the Gulf of Mexico and perhaps a dolphin or two. Maybe, if you know where to look, you can see on the horizon the oldest lighthouse of this area that remains [2nd oldest in the state of Texas], or another direction takes you around to view the marina. The park itself is dedicated to one of the first settlers known as Robert Mercer where he and his family built a cabin from driftwood at the very park. Mustang Island where Port A is located was once called Wild Horse Island. A famous pirate, Jean Lafitte, supposedly buried treasure marked with a silver sword [Spanish Dagger] -never found. Port Aransas is rich in history!! Now, the images I share may not be suitable to view if you suffer from vertigo. You're forewarned:

From the Tower

The Lighthouse

As you know, I like to do pencil sketches. And I am fascinated by the Lydia Ann Lighthouse [once called Aransas Pass Light Station]. It was built circa 1857. Tho no longer in operation as a guide to the Port of Corpus Christi, the original light remains in the Port A museum. It is now privately owned. But I took the liberty of sketching it long ago. Here's my drawing. And as I walked to the tip of the park just before the marina boardwalk, I turned and took a photo of the lighthouse as it looked that day...

I have more on this day trippin' but, I will end my blog here and continue it on another day!!
...and to continue showcasing my Trolls...

  3. Lovely place but like you said, too vulnerable. Best to visit then go back to high ground.
Didn't get too dizzy but had I been there, would probably be unconscious. Fear of heights is a real view buster.

  8. Your little patriotic troll is darling, Anni. Her little smile and her dress... and beautiful rainbow hair! She's perfect for the holiday weekend.

I admire your adventurous spirit, Anni. You're a strong woman... able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Well, maybe not buildings but big tall staircases, for sure!! The pictures you shared are breathtaking! Thank you for taking us along. ~Andrea xoxo

  11. I love the lighthouse photo! It looks just abit misty, like the kind of weather a boat would need a light. Plus it is so atmospheric. I like the lacy sleeves on this troll. Seems like they made the outlook better than ever!

  18. We went through Mississippi a few years after their hurricane had been through. I remember one restaurant rebuilt and on its walls showed a line on how high the water had come up. We were on the second floor. Port Aransas is a name familiar to me and I am wondering if I went through there on one of our road trips. Glad the observation tower was rebuilt and am impressed you climbed those steps. Not sure if I could. Enjoyed the photos as always Anni. Thank you :)
