Watching the sky for weather patterns, birds, and deep blue!!

3] While the days have been mild this week, Bud and I have been dabbling at getting a low spot in our yard on the side of the garage raised up and leveled so we can have some sod put there eventually. Even when we soak the foundation for the crazy soil in Texas...we always end up with a puddle there. Makes for a muddy mess at the backyard gate. But yesterday, we took a few hours off to relax our sore muscles. Ended up walking at Pollywog Ponds - it's a beautiful, quiet area outside of town. We then drove over to Calallen, Texas to Bazemore Park and had lunch at one of the Subway delis after seeing very little bird activity.

1] Having my blog[s] on Blogger is a challenge a lot of times. Just the other day I uploaded some images for a post and decided to try the option of 'adding a caption'. I thought..."Cool! Now I don't have to add captions below the image in a paintshop pro frame any more!" "That'll save me a lot of time." I imagined that it was a good thing! Until I uploaded, added the caption, and published the post. I then clicked on the images to view them enlarged as in the nifty Lightbox feature Blogger has implemented. WRONG! Once the caption feature is done, the caption disappears in Lightbox!! With a three column blog template, the images must be quite small to fit into the post properly! Right? Right!! So the enlarging Lightbox is a must for those who visit and want to see the full view by clicking on them. What's the purpose of enabling the enlargement feature and adding the caption if only one works!?!!

Making use of Blogger's caption option [enlarging won't work with the caption visible!]:
![]() |
| Hibiscus Blossom |
DISABLING CAPTIONS [Lightbox enlargement works the very same as with the caption. Just a waste of time then most likely!!]
...and to add the cherry on top of it all, the caption option really messes with the alignment of the text afterward also!! You have to continue to hit the 'enter' key on your keyboard to have the remaining text of your post to be UNDER the captioned image. Otherwise the alignment of the text is half way down the captioned image on the right, left or centered below the image just uploaded. No fun, no fun at all. At least I HAVEN'T figured how to adjust to have it work properly. And knowing how Blogger works it's own magic, there isn't a fix. Except to accept the extra work involved, and no Lightbox feature, or forget the captioning all together under the Blogger admin. I bet that all didn't make much sense. rofl

My weather app on my smartphone has been going berserk for the last couple of days with weather warnings!! One day this week, we had a near 80° high [F] ---Yesterday it was chilly but a beautiful, mild winter day with the high of mid 60° range. But the whole scenario is about to change. Today, the temp will again be 60° before midday. Then, the bottom is gonna drop out!! The temperature is going to plummet, then the winds will pick up to gusts of nearly 40MPH...that means the windchill will be in the high 20's!! Predicted anyway. By night fall, the rains will come in form of sleet [with windchill factors of temps dropping in the low to mid teens!!] --- warnings of driving hazards are in affect. Ice accumulating on the highways!! Driving in Colorado, the snowpacked, icy roads are a given and y'all grow accustomed to how to drive on slick streets. Down here, the drivers see speed limits of 65MPH, and that's what they're gonna drive; no matter the road conditions!! Texas drivers, at least in my experience, are not icy-road knowledgeable!! They're discourteous to begin with on NORMAL roads!! I look for lots of accidents before this clears out late Friday. Hopefully none fatal.

Whoa...what a cliffhanger!!! [fox tv]
5] Oftentimes these days when outdoors walking, and I spy a bird, I get fixated on that bird's actions and forget about all the other birds flitting 'round. And this Golden Fronted Woodpecker [quite prevalent to our area in South Texas] was the main attraction for a while as it foraged for the dried berries on the tree. Upright, sideways and upside down, it kept its balance all along!

you are right, blogger is what it is... and keeps on changing... awesome photos of the wood pecker, all of them. our weather has been a yo you and very not typical of our normal FL weather. we woke up to 38 this morning and tomorrow will be colder... it will all work out in the end just like blogger.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm, you were about 6 degrees colder than we were. And it's sunny and warm right now...at 1PM
DeleteLove that woodpecker... That is one I haven't seen. BEAUTIFUL.... That is SO true about Captions on Blogger. As smart as 'those' people are (or should be), there could easily be a 'fix' for that... I use captions quite a bit --but I do know that when someone enlarges the photo, the caption is GONE.... Gads!!!!!
ReplyDeleteFacebook has some qualities like that -which drive me crazy. None of these programs seem to be very user-friendly... They truly don't care!
Hugs,
Betsy
I wouldn't even consider using Facebook with what problems arise in Blogger. One outfit is enough. LOL
DeleteA woodpecker just like your little guy here has been tapping incessantly at one of the barns. I guess he senses the cold weather coming, too. I'm glad we have these smartphones, but I set my notifications to silent, finally, because of all the weather alerts!
ReplyDeleteIf I put mine on silent, I'd ignore the whole phone! I so dislike phones. ;-)
DeleteBlogger certainly can be difficult to work with sometimes! What a talented woodpecker - nice photos!
ReplyDeleteBob was watching something on the History channel the other day on Texas and how it's always been unique among the states. I enjoyed watching it and thought of you!
I saw a cartoon/graphic the other day in my email about the 'uniqueness' of Texas....it shows a map of USA, with the state of Texas outlines...the remaining continental 47 states were marked 'Canada'. I bet the history program was a good one.
DeleteAnni, you know how I feel about Google and Blogger from my post today. Ugh. #!*%$ But, it's free so I guess we have to live with it.
ReplyDeleteI am a bit envious of some of the avian species you get to see. This woodpecker is so handsome. You got some neat action shots of him.
Yes, there ARE a lot of different birds here...Guess it's mainly 'cause we're in the migrating path for both autumn and spring.
DeleteThanks Gail.
I enjoy visiting your blog as it is so informative. I love seeing what you share and the suggestions.
ReplyDelete...why, thank you kindly LV!!
DeleteI just won't tell you the issue I'm having with blogger or window eight. Still cold in Idaho and I been enjoying the little chickadee and the wood peckers.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on
...sure you can, I'm listening!!! If it's a rant you want to post...it's fine by me!!! Go ahead.
DeleteI can't even get in mine anymore! Have a great day :) PJ
ReplyDelete{{{{{ PJ }}}}} this is scary, I was just thinking of how you're doing? Still in Galveston? And your kitties?!!! Hope you and your hubby are doing well. Miss you.
DeleteMy life is a lot different now, Anni but I am doing OK
Deletethat's good to know you're okay tho!!! Got an email addy?
Deletepheckman@ziprealty.com
DeleteGot it...emailed you just now [Tuesday morning]
DeleteThat's a gorgeous Hibiscus, and your woody is terrific!
ReplyDelete...thanks Karen.
DeleteWonderful photos,Anni!Have a nice weekend.
ReplyDelete...thanks Steffi!
DeleteHi, Georgia has had a wild week in the weather too! We love to pick up sub sandwiches and bring them home, or in summer take them to a picnic area along Lake Lanier. Glad you could get out for a sandwich and I love the woodpecker pics. Never have seen this one with the gold color. Wishing you a nice evening. Hope the road conditions won't be too severe.
ReplyDeleteMildred...oh I would love to picnic too!!! That sounds really good 'bout now too.
DeleteOh, don't even get me started on Blogger!! I've had nothing but problems from them for weeks now!! Ah, but I do love you captures for the day, Anni, they are superb and so beautiful!! Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteLOL...you too, Sylvia? Blogger can be so unfriendly, I think. But like Gail says above in her comment = it's free. You'd think tho, before implementing features as such, they'd think ahead to what others want and expect? Maybe not. Glad you enjoyed the post today!!
DeleteLove the bird!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the woodpecker photos!!!
DeleteA nice series of shots. The enlargement photo worked on both versions of that flower in my browser. Go Broncos!
ReplyDelete...yes, but the caption doesn't show after you click on it to enlarge it. YES!!! GO BRONCOS
DeleteFantastic photos of the woodpecker, the variety of positions is like a kamasutra book :)
ReplyDelete...glad you enjoyed the photos Nathalie
DeleteI really like it when clicking on an image, every one posted can be enlarged at a strip on the bottom. Captions can be "hand-added" within the original page under the photo. LOVE your busy woodpecker and his antics.
ReplyDelete...glad you enjoyed the woodpecker antics Ms. G.
DeleteAnni, I love your woodpecker shots! Have a happy weekend!
ReplyDelete...thanks Eileen.
DeleteIt drives me nuts how blogger keeps changing things in an effort to make it "better" Have they never heard the expression, "If it aint broke, don't fix it"?
ReplyDeleteExactly my sentiments Ann!
DeleteAs you well know, we get a lot of TX tourists here in the mountains - I will verify that they don't know how to drive on slick roads! Annie, I've resorted to doing any captions after I've written the whole blog and have it formatted. That seems to work OK for me. Love the sparkly pond! Your woodpecker is an acrobat.
ReplyDeleteYa, the captions work on the main page but not when you enlarge the photo in Lightbox. Yep, Texans don't know the ins and outs of snowy/icy roadways.
DeleteYour woodpecker pictures are a lot of fun! I looked and laughed out loud at that clever bird. I just love that pretty pond. :-)
ReplyDelete...happy to know you enjoyed its antics/acrobatic skills.
DeleteI sure do miss Multiply. But - Blogger is what we have now. Your woodpecker photos are amazing.
ReplyDelete...never heard of this "multiply".
DeleteBeautiful Woodpecker. I agree we Texans don't know how to drive in icy conditions so I bought lots of groceries yesterday so I can stay home.
ReplyDelete...Bud and I stocked up too, only for the reason we didn't want to be out and about with all the other drivers.
DeleteThat woodpecker is gorgeous! Blogger can be quite a challenge to work with sometimes!
ReplyDelete...thanks Veronica. Blogger...well, all I can do about things with that is shrug it off I guess.
DeleteGreat woodpeckers - and I liked the line about the 20 - it would take only 10 seconds in Melbourne! (where I do think it actually snows!)
ReplyDeleteCheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
oh, y'all get snow?!! I would've never dreamed that in a million years.
DeleteOh your Woodpecker shots are incredible what a pretty bird. Darn Google yes it does have rules of its own. COLD I have had enough of that to last me a lifetime this week. Texas drivers on ice I cannot even imagine around here that is all we have lately and people drive fast but they think their snow tires will stop them going in the ditch....not always the right way of thinking.:) B
ReplyDeleteYep, the mentality of anyone who thinks that their driving skills in snow and on ice scares the heck outta me.
DeleteHmmm. Blogger sure can be frustrating! Love the photos of the woodpecker!
ReplyDeletethat makes me feel good to know you enjoyed the woodpecker photos EG.
DeleteThere are so many glitches on Blogger, and they can be very frustrated.
ReplyDeleteYour woodpecker is quite beautiful and very talented!
Yes indeed...frustrating.
DeleteGlad you enjoyed the woodpecker images this week.
... the weather alerts, even here in Nebraska... get to be a bit overwhelming. Gosh, how did we survive as kids without all that? :)
ReplyDelete...which brings me to ask: "Have you ever turned back after forgetting your phone -?"
DeleteI love the woodpecker shots ! I hope it doesn't get too icy and bad down there. This morning, up here, ( western Pa ) the temp is 3 degrees and way below zero if you count the wind chill. Not going away soon either and more snow on the way tomorrow :)
ReplyDelete...stay warm!! I just walked from the house to the mail box and the cold wind nearly took my breath away. It's 34 degrees!!
Deletei love Sleep Hollow - always been a fan of Ichabod Crane as kid & into my adult life. can't wait until next season.
ReplyDeletesorry to hear about blogger issues - please don't get my started ... it keeps me with weird faces always ... lines in my face not good for me. ha. ah!!! ( :
me too Beth!!! I'd love to go to Tarrytown around Halloween someday. ;-)
DeleteWell, clicking on your photos gives an AMAZING View on my desktop.
ReplyDeleteColor me Impressed.
And, the Woodpecker???
Fabulous!
...thanks so much for the positive feedback!!
DeleteFabulous woodpecker. Weather changes every 10 minutes in Texas -- right?!!!! Blogger -- can be a pain, but I hear Wordpress not any better. So I'll hang in.
ReplyDelete...weather in Texas...I WISH it'd change to warmer. LOL
DeleteHubby tried to put our vacation pictures into a book online however it would not accept it they way he wanted it so he gave up and is manually making the book one page at a time. Love the woodpecker pictures.
ReplyDelete...there seems to be more trials with Blogging than necessary sometimes. Glad you enjoyed the woodpecker photos.
DeleteLove the pictures of the woodpecker. So cool.
ReplyDeleteI use the captions quite often on blogger and usually have no problems. However, I don't know what the lightbox thingy is. So I can be of no help with your problem. :)
Have a great weekend.
...but with lightbox the captions don't show!! Glad you enjoyed the woodpecker images Cathy.
DeleteBrrr, we are cold and icy with snow here in the north oh Houston. I can't help with pictures. My Picasa does upload lately so I e-mail to myself and then put them on with Blogger. :)
ReplyDelete..
I've done the very same with emailing images and uploading them myself to blogger...it works better than Picasa most always.
DeletePicasa has stopped uploading for everyone. They are 'working' on the problem.
ReplyDelete..
...hope it helps the situation.
DeleteWow, the golden fronted woodpecker shots are awesome.
ReplyDeleteMy brother had done warned me about the caption thing so I had not even tried it.
(I finally got circadian rhythm spelled right in my post...both words both places....I think!!!)
LOL...I don't think I could spell/type circadian either!!!
DeleteOh my, I don't have any experience with blogger because I started on WP but WP has frustrations about it too. I guess there's no wonderful medium. Although Square space looks really good at the moment. I love your woodpecker photos. We have flickers here and at the moment they are drumming on all the metal chimneys around the neighbourhoods...at 5 in the morning! Lol. Have a lovely weekend Anni.
ReplyDeleteOh my...I would NOT appreciate the racket the woodpeckers create at 5 a.m!!
DeleteWhat a gorgeous woodpecker. We don't have those here...we have Yellow bellied Sap Suckers. Blogger has been very trying of late.
ReplyDeleteI cannot scroll down to comment boxes on some blogs (yours is fine).
On others I have to click on jump to comment box. Also I cannot add gadgets. I can get to the layout page but cannot scroll down to the pictures icon. Others have mentioned this too. I've checked my plug ins they are ok. I guess Blogger is once again 'making improvements'!
Hugs and happy Weekend
Madi and Cecilia
Blogger Schmogger!! Fix it and fix it right the first time. Blah, blah, blah. Like Ann said above, if it isn't broken, don't fix it.
DeleteYour #2 is SO true.
ReplyDeleteI think you're a bit south of me. We got almost an inch of ice. No snow. And, of course, lots of things are closed.
We have a lot of the Golden Fronts, too. They take over the hummingbird feeders. The Hummers are NOT amused.
Have a great weekend.
For the hummingbird feeders I've learned to have the smaller hanging ones with no perches. Keeps the 'peckers away from it. If I could just learn how to keep ants out of the sugar water I'd be very happy.
DeleteWhat wonderful shots of "Woody Woodpecker"!!!
ReplyDeleteI would have been mesmerized by his presence too!
Have a lovely weekend!
diane @ aug's blog
...thanks Diane.
DeleteI love the photos of the woodpecker. Just the other day, I could hear one but couldn't see it. Your photos are a nice way to imagine what he might have looked like.
ReplyDeleteI have a confession to make: I'm one of those who have no clue how to drive in ice and snow.
if only other drivers would make your confession!!! Glad you enjoyed the photos this week.
DeleteBlogger...what can I say. I know it's free and I love that, but it sure can drive me nuts sometimes. I've been trying to change my photo in Google Friend Connect, but it just sits there spinning and doesn't load my new photo. Grrrrr. Doesn't help that I'm the least techie person on the planet.
ReplyDeleteLove your photos of the woodpecker.
My son used to live in Texas and said the drivers were crazy especially in Houston! Why won't people use common sense and slow down on ice??? I don't get it.
Have a nice weekend!
Oh yes....I too agree with your son....Houston is the worst to drive in!! 6 lanes of speeders on most freeways.
DeleteLove the woodpecker photos. We don't have that kind here. I look forward to those temps. again someday.
ReplyDelete,,,thanks Sarah.
DeleteThose woodpecker photos amaze me! They are usually so high up here that I can't even see them -- just hear the pecking. Good job!
ReplyDelete...thank you Sharon!!
DeleteSometimes it is hard to choose between the binoculars and the camera...especially with these birds that insist on sitting as far away from me as possible! Nice shots- and I'm upset with all things google at the moment, so I can relate to your difficulties with the captions.
ReplyDeleteYep, yep, yep....Google/Blogger is definitely a huge frustration for most. Thanks Terri...glad you enjoyed the photos this week
DeleteFantastic captures of the red-headed woodys clown act, Anni.
ReplyDeleteBlogger sure can turn a good day into a nightmare in the blink of an eye ;)
It sure did give us a show of agility!!!
Deletewhat a gorgeous woodpecker! we don't get them up here, obviously.
ReplyDelete...they ARE south Texas woodpeckers, but at times they as all birds do, go outside their boundaries...maybe some day one will show up in NE TX.
DeleteI love the woodpecker. It's a gorgeous bird.
ReplyDelete...thanks Gunilla.
DeleteGood ole Blogger, some things just don't work. The camera program I use lets me add caption or I can do it in PiZap.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Georgia so I know what you mean by a few snow flakes closing down everything. I moved to Alaska and now it takes a lot of snow to impress me.
Love those woodpeckers!
I don't think I'd enjoy living in Alaska. LOL
DeleteDear Anni, I am not good at figuring out computer things. Thank heavens my son and daughter help me.
ReplyDeleteThe weather here has been very cold, icy an windy with another storm on the way this coming week.
I love watching birds too. I have a red bird that comes in my yard and visits. I always look for him. I feel better when I see him. I often worry that perhaps a cat might snatch him.
Take care and stay warm and safe. Blessings dear. Catherine xo
...that makes two of us then, two who like watching birds.
DeleteWhat a beautiful bird and great photos of it too.
ReplyDelete...thanks Adam
DeleteJust came back to tell you that the snowman in my post today isn't a tennis ball but it does kind of look like one. It's made of felt and stuffed
ReplyDeleteaha!!! Glad that you clarified that for me Ann
DeleteI use to use Blogger a long time ago when I first started blogging and it would annoy me so often I finally gave up and moved to Wordpress.
ReplyDelete...I had a wordpress blog but never used it.
DeleteThe birds are beautiful dear Anni. We don't get to see many of these in Singapore so glad I see them through your blog :) Have a great weekend.
ReplyDelete...it's good to know you enjoyed the bird photos Pallavi.
DeleteWe have not even started Sleepy Hollow yet, hoping to start it next weekend.
ReplyDeleteI am glad I switched to WordPress but I still have the photo issues I had with Blogger. I need to spend some time learning more...
Driving is a nightmare in the Philadelphia area on a normal day but yikes throw in some snow, ice and 5 degree temperatures and people really do turn into idiots.
I've been doing a lot of flying lately and people are idiots in airports too, including the employees:(
Your bird photos make me long for Spring, beautiful...
...glad you enjoyed the bird photos Doreen.
DeleteYou have some great images! It's a shame blogger doesn't provide more help in getting them published. I avoid everything except the software I can control right on my own computer. I get it the way I want it, then upload it to blogger. So far, I've been extremely happy with the results. After reading your post, I'll keep doing it the way I have been doing it. ;)
ReplyDeleteI do love your images! I hope blogger gets a little easier for you to get them on line.
Hugs from Port Canaveral,
Lois
...I see you're traveling!! Enjoy Lois.
DeleteFrustrating about the captions and as I have a couple of blogs on Blogger, I appreciate the heads up.
ReplyDeleteAnd as a fellow Texan, I can attest to the truth about Texas drivers in the snow. Austin had 260+ accidents in less than 24 hour period. We stayed home!
:-)
Traci
Yep, that amount of accidents is so very believable.
DeleteLove the woodpecker...we only have red bellied up here in North Texas. Beautiful photos!!
ReplyDelete...glad you liked the golden fronted in this post Sue.
DeleteI love your photographs. We are having brutal cold temperature here in NE.,but so far no moisture which we need to cut down on the fire danger.I would sooner have rain, no scooing:-)
ReplyDeleteThey say it is the driest Jan., for 40 yrs.
...sadly, it's been dry here also. Altho, we do get rain, it's nothing beneficial...still in a drought. Stay warm!!!
Delete
