These photos I am sharing with you today, for Wordful Wednesday and Outdoor Wednesday, are from our back yard. Right now, this time of year, the passion flower vine is blooming and going to fruit. The bumble bees are zipping around grabbing all the pollen they can get!! And I love to watch. This one in particular was so intent on its work that he was oblivious to me watching him as I zoomed in with the macro setting on my digital. The 'fuzzy, stringy' balls you may notice [in the bottom right photo] is the fruit setting on. During late summer the fruit reddens. I've heard you can make jellies from it, but my idea of jelly is called Smuckers™. Let the birds consume them...they need the nourishment too. [photos below can be enlarged]

If my body was a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model. I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull ... But that's not the worst of it.......
- My headlights are out of focus and it's especially hard to see things up close.......
- My traction is not as graceful as it once was. I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather......
- My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins.....
- It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed.
- My fuel rate burns inefficiently......
But here's the worst of it:
- Almost every time I sneeze, cough or sputter: either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires

ReplyDeleteYou always make me smile, thanks.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this dalliance of the bee and the passionflower.
ReplyDeleteand the chuckle too.
love it! great pics, I too love to watch bees like that...
ReplyDeletePassion flowers are so beautiful, and you got some really nice shots of them.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the Maxine bit! How true it all is, sadly. =)
Oh Annie, You are a hoot. I love the post. The pics are so beautiful. I can just smell the outdoor of the vine, and the color is so delightful. I loved Maxine. She is my favorite and I agree if we could only trade in for a newer model when we get to the age of backfire. Country Hugs Honey, Love Sherry
ReplyDeleteAlways am fascinated by the passion flower. Lovely shots and the comparision of your/our body to a car is a hoot...pootin' hootin' Anni!
ReplyDeleteLaugh all day, Candy
I just about spit out my coffee when I read Maxine's last line...LOL Too funny!! I had never seen a Passion Flower before, how gorgeous it is. It's such an intricate bloom, isn't it! Just lovely!!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful day, dear Anni. Sunny here right now but supposed to start raining by afternoon and then not stop raining for 5 days. Hopefully the weatherman was wrong...after all, they have been known to be wrong before! hehe xoxo
Hi Anni! I have never seen a passion flower...so pretty! And Maxine is sooo funny. Thanks for sharing...Debbie
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers, and Maxine is well Maxine. Love the last line, but it would be a lot funnier is it weren't so true. :)
ReplyDeleteHey Anni, I loved your beautiful flowers today BUT the Maxine really made me laugh... I LOVE her!!! Thanks and have a super day.

LOL Oh, thanks, I do love Maxine, and I there with ya! Thanks for sharing. Happy Outdoor Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteAren't these just the prettiest and sweetest smelling flowers around? The only thing is they take over the whole yard, so invasive. I have them all over too in our FLorida yard. Thanks for coming by...Christine
ReplyDeleteYour shots are just beautiful. Another flower we don't have in Northern Illinois. Our winters must be too cold. I see that we post posted about passion today.
ReplyDeleteMaxine is always funny! I've never seen a passion flower before - it's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMorning, Great post and beautiful header. I know you live on the coast in Texas, just don't know where, but where ever you are lucky.
ReplyDeleteCome and see me and have a Happy Wednesday.
Barbara
Your photos are incredible. I love your blog header. I'm so glad you came by I always love new visitors.. Happy OW!!
ReplyDeletehugs ~lynne~
oh how I wish I could grow a plant like this!!! It is too cold here in the winter...the LONG winter...lol
ReplyDeleteyour photos are wonderful too. I can't take a good shot to save myself. I then finally get one that is not a burred mess and I forget which setting I used! lol
Thank you today for the flattering and so sweet comments you left on my flower beds. I am very critical of myself, and see the weeds when I look...things are also very behind this year...they should be twice as large!
I wish you were my neighbor...most of the ones here...don't even know this garden exists!
Beautiful flowers ! Maxine is always great, so funny I love this figure !
ReplyDeleteAnni, your blog is so sweet, I love it! And those flowers are just spectacular and with that bumble bee, so neat to see nature at work, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteGlad you invited me to stop by, thank you!
Anni, I loved those shots of the passion flowers. I saw some on a fence in St. Augustine a few weeks ago and was so happy to see them there. They were lovely in bloom.
ReplyDeleteAnd I laughed at Maxine. What a hoot!
Happy Outdoor Wednesday to you...
XO,
Sheila :-)
Thanks for the Maxine! I love the name of your blog. What a great idea. I have never seen passion flowers so thanks for sharing. I see you collect Santas. I have one on every step leading to my unstairs bedrooms at Christmas. I hope you post pictures of yours. Also, thanks for visiting me. Have a great Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteI too laughed at Maxine! And I shouldn't too hard or my radiator tends to leak!
ReplyDeleteThe passion flowers are gorgeous!
Thanks for the invite and I am glad I came:)
Anni,
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are beautiful and the shot with the bee is terrific. I have watched them at work and they are amazing creatures.
Loved your Maxine. Isn't old age wonderful?
Blessings,
Mary
Thanks for the Maxine joke..she is one of my friends!! haha
ReplyDeleteO, did you realize your pretty photos have writing on them? Just wondering...
Thanks for having me over...
I love the picture of the bumble bee - but as the person above said, it's hard to see the loveliness. I do understand why you have your name on them, though!
ReplyDeleteMaxine is a riot. So sadly true to life!
Pretty Passion flowers
ReplyDeleteThose are lovely blooms!
ReplyDeleteDawn & Bj Yep, I've seen a few of my photos on others @ flickr even. So, I'm learning [but oftentimes forget] to do the watermark. LOL
ReplyDeleteFun post... And really interesting flowers! I hope you have a fabulous week!
ReplyDelete~Really Rainey~
Hi Anni-- thanks so much for stopping by and commenting on my blog-- so sweet.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is so lovely-- but i have to say your watermark really detracts from the beautiful pictures. If you are concerned about someone taking them just resize them to a point where they still show well on your blog but if they were to take them they couldnt blow them up at all. Just a thought .. i want to see the real shot... you are so good.
TTFN~~Claudia ♥
Great post - enjoyed it thoroughly!
ReplyDeleteVery funny, Anni. Not to mention that my thermostat cannot figure out wheather it is winter or summer. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteThe first photo was great. I love that you captured the Bee. I have made jelley in my time but I am like you, a little Smuckers is all I need.
Mama Bear
I love playing with the macro focus on my digital ... it is a work in progress for me, it looks like you have discovered the correct way to do it ... great pixs!
ReplyDeleteExcellent photos. Loved them. Maxine is so Maxine :)
ReplyDeleteHI. Let me first tell you I love your name Hootin'Annie. Makes me smile because one of my favorite films of all times was Annie get your gun. She was hootin'Annie.
