7:20 am -- For some reason today blogger isn't loading images stored on their bp3 server [while visiting other blogs I can't get them to load for viewing]. BEACH MORNING GLORY
Ipomoea imperati - Convolvulaceae, Morning Glory Family
DESCRIPTION: Prostrate, sprawling vine with oval leaves and showy flowers.
Height: To 4 inches
Flowers: Showy, white with a yellow throat, 3 inches long and 3 inches wide. Spring, summer and fall.
Fruit: A somewhat woody capsule
Foliage: Thick, leathery, succulent, oval-shaped, 1-1/2 inches long and
2 inches wide.
Propagation: Seeds, tubers, rooting at nodes
NATIVE HABITAT: coastal sands.
WILDLIFE USE: Food for caterpillars of Painted Crescent butterfly. Flowers provide nectar and pollen for bees and other flying insects.
This morning glory forms long, trailing vines, covering and securing sand dunes. The dark green leaves contrast nicely with the white, yellow-throated showy flowers.

ReplyDeleteThe shots of the morning glories are great. Morning glories are one of my favorite flowers. I've never seen them growing on the beach, so this was a treat for me.
