“A wise old owl lived in an oak;
The more he saw the less he spoke;
The less he spoke the more he heard...
Why can't we all be like that bird?”

Angela from over yonder at "The Lurchers" is our hostess with the mostest this week. She asks:

"...continuing in the spirit of "being interested in people", I would like to know, or see, what's on, in or under your bedside table! So open those draws and bare your soul to us! Is there anything special there that has a story or a memory that you can tell us about? Books that you keep there to delve into from time to time? Trinkets that you don't know where else to put? Let's see!"

My bedside nightstand has nothing but books and a red ruby-glass vase. And no drawers. Under it is my large stuffed tiger [tigers are my favorite 'wild' animal]

I moved the books around to show the titles of the three I'm currently reading....
[yep, I read more than one book - skipping days from one to the other]
Sweeney Todd
Rhett's People
Poe and Fanny [Edgar Alan Poe and wife]

Tigger will hosting next Monday!

~...end Fun Monday

<><><>

I finally bought something that I've wanted for decades. And I never did, because with what I wanted it for, when I have 'em packed away, it was more or less "out of sight out of mind".

Can you guess what it was? Here's a hint:

You see, I love to draw! I haven't drawn much lately, 'cause I had nothing to store my drawings in except within the covers of my sketch pads. And recently, while we've been cleaning closets and drawers and shelves out for Spring cleaning --some of my sketches dropped loose all over the place. That did it!! And this past week, while near an art supply store, I toted my clipped 40% off coupon and went back to the art framing department and checked out all the artists' portfolios. I needed something to keep my sketches in without them getting ruined even further...

So, by the top photo here you can see now that it's a black leather artist portfolio. Even with the 40% off, they're still costly when you want something of quality. When I was young and had little kids at home, I used to draw a lot while they were napping so not to disturb them with any household noises.....and back then, $50 dollars to spend frivolously on something non-important, was just that -frivolous!! Food on the table and school clothes were on top of my list at that time. I considered myself lucky to have a sketch pad to keep me occupied.....a portfolio to hold my art work in was just on the wish list!!!

Finally!!! Something with which I can now protect my drawings.

I know the photo is small, but left to right ---bottom row:
An Impala
A Canadian Goose
A Raccoon
My daughter, Irene
Chief Red Cloud
A Mountain Man

Middle row, left to right:
Movie: The Dark Crystal characters [Kira & Jen] -this is a Jim Henson movie
Under them [hardly visible] is E. T.
A Florida Panther [puma]

Top row, left to right:
Siamese Cat
Bald Eagle
Frog

I have many many more sketches, but these were the ones that fell loose while cleaning the shelves. Some day I'll scan some more of them and share with you. I have several framed and hangin' on my living room wall right now also... Here and Here and Here.

  4. Are you enjoying those books? I sometimes read more than one book at a time. I am glad that you usually post your Fun Monday entry early. Since I work on Mondays, I may not get around to the whole group on Monday.

  6. That's an original bedside table, lol and I love the tiger underneath, so cute. I can't say anything about your drawings the picture is too small you should put a bigger one. I have several of these folders (but not in leather of course) for my drawings there are so many over the years plus my paintings, lol !

  7. Congratulations, Anni, on buying the portfolio. An early birthday present maybe? It's gorgeous. I love your sketches. You are very talented.

I love your night table. Mine has a million books on it, my composition doll with the porcelain hands and head and my lamp. Most of it is buried under books. I love books. I must have 20 or more on my night table.

I enjoyed learning that you are such a talented artist. Thanks for sharing that part of your life. I would love to be able to draw.

Please drop over to my blog. I have a little something for you there. You may have to read down to find it. ;-)

    Blessings,
    Mary

  12. Good Morning Anni,
I love the look of your table by your bed. You know what kind of table I have beside my bed? It's an old sewing machine that belongs to my Mother. I have been using it as a night stand for years. The sewing machine doesn't work, but it does make a great table. Mine is cluttered with everything. LOL. I have a lamp on it and a telephone. I also have my fan on it. Our youngest daughter tends to put "HER" little things on it as well. I love your Tiger. Our youngest daughter has this HUGE Tiger and the other night before DH came home, she put it on his side of the bed. She said she wanted it on there because she missed her daddy and the Tiger would make it feel like her daddy was there. I just thought that was so cute. I love your portfollieo. "THANK YOU" for sharing it with us. I know you are proud to finally get one. Your drawings are very beautiful Anni. You do such good work. I can't draw worth a flip. My Sister used to could draw very good. I look forward to seeing your other drawings when you share them with us. Have you ever thought about elaminating them as well? That might help to preserve them better. Just an idea there. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

    Love & Hugs,
    Karen H.
P.S. I don't know if I have told you or not, but I love your new header. I know I keep thinking I need to tell you, buy you know how one's memory is. LOL. I love it. You did a great job on it.

  23. I don't know how you read more than one book at a time. I might try it sometime when I no longer have to keep four people's lives in order.

  24. Hey Anni, can you give us a review of Sweeney Todd yet? I'm seeing the play in a couple of weeks and a friend said the movie was pretty gruesome.

Keep after the art--wish I would draw a little every day--instead blog, but who can resist when you get to go through 50 people's bedside tables?!

  25. I love that tiger of yours!!!
Nice drawings, it's good to have something to store them in and protect them, it would be such a shame to damage them!

  26. Is Rhett Butler's People worth reading? I am always so tempted/so afraid of anything pre or post GWTW.

Do you ever put anything in your vase?

    I love the tiger.
