A Look Back in Time....

Perusing blogs of others here of late, I have witnessed many authors going back in time with sharing photos of themselves and antiques from kitchens, etc. I enjoy these posts a lot. It is not only nostalgic, but it brings back memories of yore from my youth and early adulthood as well. I was too lazy to get all the photo boxes/albums down from the shelves, but I knew where a few "oldie" photos were. They are all in my old day planner at my desk. And they were handy to reach and get them photographed with my cellphone [remember scanners? Does anyone use them anymore...cellphones are so convenient!] and get them resized to share here. I apologize for the quality and clarity, they are OLD!! The first one, at the beginning of this post, is of me 1 1/2 weeks old!! If you embiggen the image, perhaps you can see the bird pattern on the blanket [bottom left]? Perhaps the beginning of my bird fetish!!

I guess for each photo taken there is a story behind it. And this one is no different. Many times at this age, I was told NOT to go near the 'crick'. Which in my language... it's creek! "The water is too swift and you will fall in and drown. Stay away from it." Of course I had that attitude "You can't tell me what to do" from the beginning of time! I went to the creek and threw rocks. Had a gay old time. Family searched and searched for me with the fear of the worst. I was hiding! I knew I was in trouble. Mud and all! So...the baby picture with the bird pattern, notice this one. Look close...on the wood door frame, there is a star...the Lonestar of Texas [Nebraska actually]. Do you see a pattern here? Seems I have been influenced and fate had a grip on me as a toddler to get to Texas. I wasn't born there, but got here as quickly as I could.

Since my sister and I have been celebrating our very own special Sister's Day on the 18th of March for years now, I thought it'd be appropriate to share this one. I was 2, my sister was 9! I have no idea where this photo was taken [she doesn't remember either], but it IS Nebraska of course. She DOES remember the colors of our dresses tho. Her's was dark blue plaid and mine was turquoise and white. We were inseperable forever. Always will be. In many cases we are two peas in a pod. Most everything in our lives and thoughts match to a "T". We sync our clocks, and each year we toast [me facing west to Colorado and she facing southeast to Texas] with a glass of champagne [I guess the correct term now-a-days is Sparkling Wine]. Here's to Sisterhood!!

  2. P.s. I love the fact that you toast each other from afar with a glass of champagne, a treasured tradition!

  3. Anni, you and I must be on the same wave length because I have a post coming up about this same topic. I too enjoy looking back sometimes. So nostalgic and heartwarming. To me, there is nothing like looking at oldie photos! And yes, I still have a scanner and use it often for work-related things and for scanning photos.

These photos are FABULOUS! And yes, I most definitely see the beginnings of your love of birds!

" Of course I had that attitude "You can't tell me what to do" from the beginning of time! " LOL! I was (and still am) the same. I question everything and am not afraid to do so.

Isn't it funny how even as a child, we are drawn to certain places without ever having been there? I was that way with New York City. And I ended up living there for 5 years.

LOVE that photo of you and your sister! Don't you love how people dressed back in those days? Everyone looked nice, neat, and had style.

Thanks for sharing, my friend. REALLY enjoyed this!

  5. I had a good time laughing at your stories because my parents quickly figured out that if they told me not to do some thing that I would go straight and do it. I am still that way. I also love old pictures and photos and it doesn’t matter to me who is in them because I love to see what things were like Wayback win. You and your sister and your dresses make me think of all the dresses I had that were just like those.

  6. Oh Anni, the photos are so sweet!! And I love the post... I wish me and my sister had been close like this, but we just weren't. We're closer today than back then though...and that's a good thing.

  7. I love old photos, and yours are adorable! We do have a scanner on the printer, but you're right that phones are easier.
"I went to the creek and threw rocks." haha, I'm picturing that.
That's a cool tradition you have with your sister. And it's wonderful that you have such a close relationship with her.

  8. A fun reminisce into your youthful days and what nurtured you into what you are today. I am surprised you and your older sister were so close given the age difference. My mother and her sister were the same age difference (9 years), and her sister always thought she was too old. :-\

  9. Crick mol mol I've heard of them here too. Many residents in Harnett County about 50 miles from us have quite funny ways of saying every day words.
I did so enjoy the photos and the more I see b&w the more I appreciate all the details.
Cheers to you and Sis on the 18th

  11. GREAT to know that I'm not the only one who loves to go back to early years and reminisce about those days as a child. I have a picture wearing a pretty dress and ratty shoes. My mother must have thought they wouldn't be photographed! The best thing is that almost all of my clothes were hand-made by her. Your personality came through too! I was called "contrary" so we are both in the same category, I think! Love your post today!

I love old pictures and the stories that go with them. Sisters are great, I agree. I have 2, both much younger than I, but the older we get the less the age difference matters. GM

  14. We love seeing the old photos that hold so many precious memories. Ours are in albums or stacked in a drawer. My gram always called a creek a crick too. She was from Michigan.

Its funny how the bits and pieces of our life make us who we are today..that's not how I meant to say it but I can't seem to find the words..ahhh..senior moments are coming fast and furious..

  22. What a coincidence! I included some old pictures of Barb in our last post. It is fun to look closely beyond the subject in the picture and see what is in the background and how the world has changed. In the background of Barb's first grade class picture, you see a vodka box in the closet. I bet you won't see that in any pictures nowadays!

  25. Hi Anni,
To answer your question on my blog post. The Tucson area... way back in the 80's. I am sure it has changed big time. ;-)

  26. Love your old pictures! I scan pictures on my computer when I am taking them out of old photo albums and putting them on USB drives. A little less convenient than taking pictures of them with my phone but I can do several at a time. Usually, I take phone pictures to put on my blog, though. It's easier to do it that way! I love that you and your sister celebrate each other every March!
