On this morning, I decided to walk along the mudflats behind Packery Channel Park. I had read that the tide was going to be low at that hour, and thought maybe I could spot some shorebirds. Very little activity witnessed, except for the usual suspects of gulls and herons. Several boats and fishermen were out trying their luck on the still waters. So, to keep this mudflat saga a short narration, I will just show some photos from walking.
What I'm sharing is this: A fisherman, yellow wildflowers [2 images], a washed out butterfly with morning dew on its wings, a mockingbird, a pufferfish that didn't survive the turning of tide levels, JFK Causeway Bridge [this bridge connects Padre Island with Corpus Christi, crossing Humble Channel], and lastly what I think may be a Cooper's Hawk secondary feather...

When I got back home, I had an email from a store here in town informing me that my long-ago ordered camera had arrived! There is a drug-out story on this...I've been searching for this camera online and in stores for nearly TWO years. And with the shipping fiasco and another chip shortage, they were NOT available! Except for the ones overseas. If you purchase a 'foregin' product such as this [a camera], they are not warranted/guaranteed by USA customs, so I patiently waited and ordered it - a USA product, waited some more, and waited still more! But, I now have a new camera. A much needed piece of equipment since I use it just about every day and my zoom camera is over 5 years old, that's about 365 days x 5 years x an average of 100 photos each birding excursion. You do the math!! The old one was beginning to have faded blurred photos as the outcome and the shutter button stuttered quite a bit. And with birding, timing is crucial!! To fix it at a camera shop was an exorbitant price tag with only a 30 day guarantee. Forget that noise. Also, then, after picking that up, back home again, the FED EX delivered another huge package. A keyboard. I now need to get my sheet music out and practice practice practice [I once had a piano in Colorado and we sold it when we moved to AZ]. It's been over 20+ years since I've sat down and played.
Outstanding photos, Anni! Love each and everyone. The one of the fisherman is such a stellar capture! Congrats on finally getting you new camera. Isn't it such a great feeling when you get a new camera? I remember getting the one I presently own and being so excited to get outside and start taking pictures. And speaking of a piano, I took lessons when I was a kid for several years (from the Catholic school nuns), but eventually I stopped. Have fun with your new keyboard too!
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday!
It's been a long time...a learning curve again.
DeleteYou are a woman of many talents! You take great photos, sketching, etc. And now you play piano!
ReplyDeleteBTW, nice photos today.
🎹😊🎹❤️❤️🎹😊🎹
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteLove the photos. The pufferfish is cool looking, sorry didn't survive. I love the flowers!
Congrats on your new camera and the keyboard. You will have hours of enjoyment with your new items. Take care, enjoy your day and the new week ahead.
I hope to get all my sheet music out and get back in the "swing".
Deletethe fisherman is my favorite, the puffer is adorable and sad, love yellow flowers and wow, now you have added another thing for me to be envious of, the keyboard. YAY! and when do we find out what new camera you got, waiting with baited breath
ReplyDeleteIt's a Nikon.
DeleteThe keyboard sounds like great Covid entertainment if you didn't already have birding and sketching. Boredom is not in your vocabulary.
ReplyDeleteI can easily become bored, and a lot of times what is sitting front of me doesn't interest...nap.
DeleteGreat shots Anni, but poor Butterfly and Pufferfish. Go glad you got some new toys - enjoy!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new camera, how exciting! your photos are lovely today. the fisherman one looks like it should be in a magazine or calendar. the butterfly looks dusted with diamond dust. and the Puffer looks alive, he must have very recently died.
ReplyDeleteIt was still quite muddy where the fish was, so perhaps you are right.
DeleteLove the photos! Have fun with your new camera!
ReplyDeleteI will. Much learning new stuff.
DeleteWhat exciting package deliveries. You'll have lots of hobby time filled up now. Your Patience paid off.
ReplyDeleteSpring is here, so more outdoors, finally!!
DeleteSounds like someone has the next few weeks ahead filled with lots of familiarizing to do with cool gadgetry! Now we just hope the FedEx delivery guy gently places the box at your front door. :-) A beautiful medley of photos shared today!
ReplyDeleteThanks Steven.
DeleteGreat photos! Love the pufferfish!
ReplyDelete❤️🎣❤️
DeleteCongratulations on your new purchases. I do understand about waiting and waiting on things to be delivered. Our printer went to the great beyond and we are waiting on the delivery of a new one...and waiting... Of course according to Murphy's Law we had just bought ink for our old printer , to the tune of a gazillion dollars, when it died.. Now we are trying to sell the unopened , of no use to us now, ink..hope we do...this stuff is costly.
ReplyDeleteLove your photos, especially the butterfly. It looks like diamonds on its wings.
Sue
I know what that printer ink costs! An arm & a leg!
DeleteAll great photos, but I really love the fisherman.
ReplyDelete🎣😊🎣
DeleteMud flats..... I take it, it's just a name. Or at least, no mud, when you were walking. :-)
ReplyDeleteAlways mud??? You should see my shoes & inside of car after I'm done.
DeleteGreat pictures once again. Nice that your camera finally arrived and we can look forward to more bird photos ( and other subjects too of course).
ReplyDeleteWhen Youngest son moved out he left his keyboard and it just sits there in a closet, unused. I have nowhere to set it up or I might try playing it.
I miss my piano, but no room for a big piece of furniture.
DeleteOhhhh Anni you will so love getting acquainted with your new camera and keyboard.
ReplyDeleteNew projects for your artistic self.
I took accordion for 3 years....wish I had continued but It was so long ago no way I could pick up where I left off.
I washed pedestal bird bath today along with my smaller ones for the ground hoppers.
I'm looking forward to H.B. season with great anticipation.
Hugs Cecilia
Soon it will be time for hummingbirds!!!
DeleteYou are the first accordion player I know.
I personally don't see how your pics can get any better but congratulations on your new camera! I hope you will do a video of your playing! I used to play the organ - Easy play notes.I meant to practice before Christmas so I could play some carols on Christmas Eve but that didn't happen. Maybe soon......
ReplyDeleteThere is more to the eye when it comes to keyboard.
DeleteGreat pictures. Have fun with that new camera. Getting a new 'toy' is so much fun.
ReplyDeleteYes it is...once I learn all the new fangled "gadgets".
DeleteFantastic photos.
ReplyDeleteSo what kind of camera did you get? Nothing than better than playing with a new toy.
Oh and tell Bud I was LOL at the Under the bleachers by Seymour Butz :)
A Nikon ( my go to brand.
DeleteLovely beautiful pictures as always. Happy that you finally got your new camera. I miss having a camera - only have my phone.
ReplyDeleteYou have revealed another of your talents - playing the piano, :)
😊
DeleteHooray for your new camera! I know that feeling - we've been waiting almost a year for chairs for our front porch. They keep saying they are coming soon...
ReplyDeleteI play piano too and would really miss being without it. Glad you got that keyboard - have fun!
I miss my piano too.
DeleteOhhh...I love the photos of the fisherman and the mockingbird especially well. I wonder if that puffer Fish knows it is dead...it looks so very alive to me. Congrats on both the new camera and the new keyboard. I am thinking I was likely the only one who was thinking a computer keyboard and wondering why you would need sheet music LOL. ~Robin~
ReplyDelete😊
DeleteI hope you like your new camera.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Thanks
DeleteOh I KNOW you will enjoy using and learning techniques with your new camera! A nice photo of the feather! You brought up a piano memory journey of mine - My teacher used to sit on the bench with me, wheezing as she breathed and then cracking my knuckles with a ruler when I didn't curve my fingers just right. After I quit lessons, I learned by myself and did just fine. Love music. Would love to hear you play the keyboard!!!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like me...first, I don't bring told what and how to do things..I too am self taught in most instances. Better that way. Of course, I'm far from a concert pianist!! Okay by me.
DeleteAlthough perhaps not birds, the photos are nevertheless pieces of life and your journey, and interesting in their own way, each one with a story behind it. I'll be listening across the gulf for your lilting keyboard notes. ;)
DeleteJ C...with a all the salt water between us, I may sound a bit rusty!😉
Deletelove your photos! What camera are you getting? When I bought my Nikon I couldn't get one with a U.S. warranty, but I bought it from B&H Photo and they warranted it the same as Nikon would have. I trust them and was happy to get the camera.
DeleteI wanted the Nikon warranty! Yes, it's a Nikon. Best in my opinion.
DeleteA new keyboard and a new camera.... your day could not have gotten much better, I'm guessing, Anni! How wonderful!! ~Andrea xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteIt was peachy! I find that I need to rekindle my knowledge with both tho. Keeps my mind occupied.
DeleteSo beautiful and stunning
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
DeleteI am very excited about your new camera and keyboard! What gorgeous photos you captured this last outing. The pufferfish just looks so alien and incredible, and the moth is an amazing photo.
ReplyDeleteThey do look bizarre!
Deletediscreet is or bladder leaks, i don't have bladder leaks, diarrhea is the problem
ReplyDeleteAhhhh, okay. I have been set straight now!
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI like all your photos.
I have a little Sony Lumix camera that I love, but never carry, I use my phone. Maybe I'll start carrying it again. (I may have to re-read the instructions!).
I added a link here from my page, hope you don't mind.
Have a great day!
Thanks Mark!!!
DeleteCongratulations on getting the new camera Anni. What a great feeling that must have been to see it waiting for you. Super photos! I have only ever seen a pufferfish in an aquarium, it is an extraordinary fish to look at.
ReplyDeleteSpooky looking.
Deleteyou are amazing !!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I do hope you can return to blogging soon.
