Ringo! El Bandito....

Yesterday [Friday], I drove to the island to see if any new migrants showed up. At my first two stops, either no birds at all, or the same species seen throughout the week. So, hopping back in the car, I drove further up the island highway to Port Aransas. The largest birding hotspot parking lot, at that early hour, was filled up and I had to park on the street. I remember the days when I first took up the hobby of birding, there were few to little other birders. This pastime has taken off the last decade. Anyway, as I walked the boardwalk, I saw a very unusual "bird". Well camouflaged and sneaking through the tall marsh grasses. I knew what it was, but couldn't believe what I was actually seeing. Not a bird at all, but a little masked bandit. It finally came out in the open so I could use the shutter button...

Digging deep, I think it was hunting tubers in the mud. Do they eat veggies? I really don't know.  I'm sure somebody does.
