I'll begin this blog with a cute critter seen at West Guth Park recently. I haven't seen many of them here of late, and I thought maybe the city eradicated them. But, while watching the Monk Parakeets in the neighboring palm trees, I spotted one peering out of its burrow!! They're cute. Probably destroying the landscaping of the park grounds, but still, they are entertaining to say the least. They are the Mexican Ground Squirrel, a native to Old Mexico, and only seen in the state of Texas in the United States...

I DO see the face! These critters are so cute! They look like Prairie Dogs. They had Prairie Dogs at a zoo a few years ago, and they transfixed me. I could have watched them all day. And these would be very similar to watch. Guess I never heard of them because they are only in Texas. What a wonderful find!!
ReplyDeleteThey have a line of spots on their backside that make them even more attractive IMO
Delete*haha* I spotted the angry bunny! How darling!! ~Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteIt's a cute photo isn't it?
DeleteYes I see the angry bunny face it's adorable. And I would love to see those ground squirrels they're just as cute as I can be I love regular squirrels and I know that they all do damage but I still love them
ReplyDelete...come to Texas, I'll take there.
DeleteHello Anni,
ReplyDeleteLove the cute Mexican Ground Squirrel, It reminds me of the chipmunks. Great captures. I do see the angry bunny, that is a cute one. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care and stay well. Have a great day, happy weekend.
Thanks for hosting Saturday Critters Eileen!
DeleteThe ground squirrels are cute. Yep, I see the angry bunny. Too funny
ReplyDeleteIt honesty took me two glances before I saw it...I was looking for something MUCH smaller.
DeleteDefinitely see the Angry Bunny.
ReplyDeleteWe used to summer vacation at a lake in Wisconsin when I was a child. My grandfather and I used to see a very similar looking critter in the fields when we would go on our walks.
Thank you for bringing back a lovely memory of my Papa and I. He and I were always together.
Have a lovely day Anni ☕🍂🍁🎃👻
Awww, that sound like a wonderful childhood.
DeleteFunny angry bunny face! LOL. And the ground squirrel reminds me of a chipmunk. We don't have chipmunks here in Florida, but I've seen them up north. We have plenty of squirrels, just not the ground kind. They are fun to watch, but I don't want them in my bird feeder! LOL.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind squirrels in our feeders...they need to eat too.
DeleteThe little Mexican Ground Squirrel is adorable! I do see the angry bunny face lol :D
ReplyDeleteI have missed seeing them...I
DeleteWas happy to know they're still at that park.
I had never heard of those squirrels. And they are cute! Actually, the upside down face was the most prominent one. I had to turn my computer screen upside down to see the other one.
ReplyDelete....el gato
DeleteThey don't know how old he is. I was told somewhere around 6. We think he might be a little older than that and when we take him to the vet on Tuesday we'll ask him what his opinion is. He's considered a senior dog and that's what we wanted and he has fit into our home like a hand in a glove
ReplyDeleteYou two are angels. So many senior dogs are over-looked and need the loving as small pups do...in fact, I think more so.
DeleteThat little squirrel is SO cute! He looks like a peanut!
ReplyDeleteThey DO now that you mention it!
DeleteCutie
ReplyDeleteIndeed
DeleteThe ground squirrel is really cute and if he is anything like a chipmunk, they can be destructive but lucky for those I see, cute out weighs damage.
ReplyDeleteYep, I saw the angry bunny. Cute photo.
They're more like a ground hog or prarie dog.
DeleteThat sure is an angry bunny with fat cheeks and no ears! The little ground squirrel looks somewhat like our chipmunks. Cutie!
ReplyDelete...angry rabbits WILL lay their ears flat (or when trying to hide). If so, beware of their back legs...they are lethal)
DeleteHow special to see the Mexican Ground Squirrel! It reminds me of a chipmunk.
ReplyDeleteI guess I am below average on imagination - no matter which way I look at it, it's a cat!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Let me see if I can find it for you.
DeleteYes! I can see the angry bunny. So cute. :)
ReplyDelete😁🐿
DeleteHaHa...love that "Bunny Face"..too cute.
ReplyDeleteSquirrels are fun to watch but I don't like what they do to my yard and how they destroyed my chair cushion. They wanted the insides of the cushion for their nest..What a mess.
I bet it was a mess!
DeleteUp on the land we have a lot of ground squirrels, but few tree squirrels...too few trees! I love the angry bunny.
ReplyDeleteI miss the black tufted ears squirrels we used to have in the Colorado mountains!
DeleteWe have a ground squirrel around here too. They are likely a subspecies. They sure are fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteIf I remember correctly, this Mexican ground squirrel is the only species in the family
DeleteGround squirrels are so cute!
ReplyDeleteAnd I do see the angry bunny!
:-) that, they are!
DeleteHi Anni :) I see the bunny!!! It took me a minute, but yes, I saw it very clever!! That squirrel is very cute, his back looks like a peanut shell! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Rain!
DeleteThe squirrels are cute...
ReplyDeleteYes, I do see the angry bunny...
All the best Jan
Those squirrels look like peanuts. And yes, I do see the angry bunny face, LOL.
ReplyDeleteI really wonder how long those squirrels will stay in Texas...LOL Maybe they won't spread any farther because of the climate.
