This one below is framed by Bud. He made four very large frames from old wood and all are identical; matted in brown and black... and hanging in our "Old West" Living Room with my sketches---Chief Dan George, Tom Horn, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid -I have shared BCSK already, but it's gonna magically reappear shortly in another post, and then, another Native American portrait.

...Chief Dan George is also an author and poet besides the late actor. i admired him very much!! And his weathered look, his features were, to me, just needing to be drawn!! I have two of his published books in our library also. This sketch is also one of MY favorites I've ever done.

Another favorite person of mine is the legendary Willie Nelson. After seeing him in concert on an Indian Reservation just outside of Tucson, and then again in Corpus Christi, I wanted to do a caricature of him. [this too is framed -but not a frame made by Bud- and on our living room wall]

This is the Native American portrait I sketched many years ago -framed by Bud

This one is also framed by Bud as mentioned above at the beginning...it's of Steve McQueen as a western legendary hired gunman, Tom Horn. In the real West, Tom Horn was hanged in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1903.

Chief Dan George, you captured such character in is face, and strength!! Wow! And Of course I recognized Willie immediately! I would think that caricatures are harder than regular portraits. Because you have to exaggerate the features while still keeping the person recognizable.
ReplyDeleteIn a way they are easier to draw for just that reason...you can exaggerate the lines & shadows with a bit of humor.
DeleteP.S. Those two are my favorites as well.
ReplyDeleteMy all time favorite is C D George. I worked weeks on both him & Willie...days just getting Willie Nelson's hat black enough. Lol
DeleteThese are all wonderful
ReplyDeleteGlad you like these.
DeleteHello, they are all wonderful sketches. Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy week ahead!
ReplyDeleteThanks Eileen, have yourself a great day too!

DeleteI so enjoy your art, Anni, and these are really special. Thank you for sharing your talent with me, a humble non-artist. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks D J. Following you thru the years, you too are artistic! With words. You create a work of art in story telling; every time.
DeleteI am a huge fan of anything Western, these are amazing. I love the craggy faces of Native Americans and also love to see lines on anyones face. I would like your western room.. I had intended to be a cowboy when I grew up, but never made it. not at cowgirl, a cowboy
ReplyDeleteBud likes everything old west
DeleteSo, I tend to be inspired sometimes with his enthusiasm.
You are so talented. These are beautiful sketches.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy
DeleteYou captured Chief Dan George absolutely perfectly with an expression of strength to beat all! Guess I don't see Willie like that, but understand it is a caricature. To me, he has the kindest eyes of all in real life. Your talent is amazing.
ReplyDeleteHis eyes in person, sparkle
DeleteLoved them all and am impressed by the expression you always get in the eyes. You do have talent.
ReplyDeleteRead the story about Tom Horn. Rather a brutal man but the detailed hanging was shocking in how long it took and the running water method. Thanks for the link.
Ya, some awful things back in the 'olden times'
DeleteIt would seem to me that you could sell some of these, if you wanted to. They are so well done.
ReplyDeleteI've been told that before. I don't see it myself. ...the eyes of the beholder, I guess.
DeleteI can't think of a portrait I would rather have blessing my walls than that of Chief Dan George. We love him and have watched his movies over and over ~ just recently in The Outlaw Josey Wales. You did a wonderful job of captured that one-in-a-million looks!
ReplyDeleteI adored him!
DeleteI knew Willie and Steve McQueen right away - I did not know the other two. You have a lot of talent there. sandie
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandie
DeleteYou are a very talented artist Anni, I loved all your sketches and they must look great in your western room. Chief Dan George looks so noble in the sketch you did of him, and I have always enjoyed him in his movies.
ReplyDeleteI too LOVED watching him.
DeleteAnni you are the very very best at capture the exact facial expressions in all your drawings.
ReplyDeleteWillie and Steve WOW
