A Walk in the Pasture....

~ Got the backyard edged and mowed, while Bud was doing the same in the front yard. We both got up and out at first light for the day to get it done while the temp was tolerable. By lunch time it was already 94 degrees! We mowed and edged lawn at 7 am....it was 82 degrees. It's done for the week. We need some rain and some cloud cover for a  few days...this white hot sky in the morning is becoming depressing.  While I was sitting in the shade of the pecan tree, waiting for Bud to finish HIS job of work, I took a photo of the Strawberries and Cream Crepe Myrtle bush...

~ I entered a contest for a magazine I get delivered to the house. I was allowed three images... of the one limit for each category. I chose a flower, a butterfly, and a bird. I'm sure that my bird entry will be disqualified from the get go...it IS a photo ...but, a photo of one of my paintings. Oh well.  The contest entries are due by August 2019.

~ I started reading a different book....first person, and a debut novel by Sarah Schmidt. So far, not bad. Of course it's of a subject I've always been intrigued by....another unsolved murder case. Well, she did get away with murder in my opinion; acquitted...but, it's still a mystery, and with so much written about Lizzie Borden, I'm not the only one that thinks on those terms!!!

~ I went to the Corpus Christi Trade Center [an indoor flea market] in search for some new earring studs...or perhaps a neat windchime. I found neither. But, I got my daily steps in....indoors, where the air conditioned huge building was an oasis to me on such a hot, humid day! I did find, however, something for Bud and bought five of them for him. He has always liked anything native american. And I found a bin full of polished buffalo teeth! He has thoughts of making an ornament for his cellphone carrier. That remains to be seen tho.

~ Monday, I drove to the islands....didn't get too much walking in...only 7500 steps on my fitness app. But, at least I wasn't sitting at home, idle. Other than the normal water fowl and land birds, this is what I saw...I first decided to take a trail I've never used before, an unpaved, primitive path that meanders around and through some of what is called Charlie's Pasture..it's land given to the town of Port A for nature trails and boardwalks. Since the boardwalk is no longer accessible, I opted to the nature trail:

~ After completing this leg of the walk, seeing many many silver leafed sunflowers [and an immature mocking bird in photo], I took off toward my favorite area...a cargo ship was seen above the cliffs and pasture, heading out to sea [you can barely see the white conning tower of the ship; pointed out with a black arrow],

...so I was hoping to watch the dolphins [tho one image has the dolphins cropped off through my viewfinder, I was going to just delete it...but, I thought better...a better way of showing you how close to the ships they are...they are right under the bow anchor!!!

~ Before I left for home, a Coast Guard Ship cruised by... I bid them farewell!!

  2. You sure are a VERY busy lady! I admire you for so many reasons. Your blogs are informative, interesting, varied, and so much more with the photos. The Strawberries and Cream Crepe Myrtle bush is unusual to me!

  4. Best of luck with the photos you entered.
Mowing is difficult when the heat is up there. It doesn't get nearly as hot here as it does there but I still look for the coolest day possible.
Those dolphins do swim close to the ships.

  6. Those dolphins look like they are having fun! The one day I don't get my steps in is Sunday, so I call it my "rest" day. :-)

  9. I have been in a private boat and had dolphins play around the bow. They are facinating and so agile in the water. There was never a close call.

    1. What, I wonder, is how they time it so well...getting in-sync with the ship's momentum & speed!

  11. These are fabulous dolphin photos! It seems that they want to play with the ship. They are so cute! What will you win if you win the contest? Your Crepe Myrtle is gorgeous! They are in bloom here, as well. So this is a novel based on the Lizzie Borden murders? I have studied into them, read and watched quite a bit. And I do thing she is guilty. She was treated horribly, but that is still no reason to murder anyone. Your nature trail pictures are wild and beautiful, especially the dragonflies!

    1. I agree...guilty! Yes, those dolphins are playful! As for the contest winnings. Cash, but grand prize to 3rd runner-up is of different amounts.

  12. It is horrendously hot here too, in northern Indiana, Anni. The grandgirls have been here for a week (going home tomorrow) and we've only done "outside activities" once. :-( I wanted to take them to our county fair yesterday or today but there's just no way. I have to honor my limitations these days or I'm in trouble. So we went to the movies twice (Toy Story 4 and Pets 2) and then yesterday we made an afternoon of going to the next town over and hitting up Barnes & Noble, Michaels and then Red Robin for supper. We're all voracious readers so my grandgirls especially were in their glory. I picked up a book entitled "Restless Souls: The Sharon Tate Family's Account of Stardom, the Manson Murders, and a Crusade for Justice". I've delved into a tiny bit but don't have much time to read until the grands (10 & 8) go home. I'm grateful for books in this heat... gives me something enjoyable to do inside the house. Stay cool~ Andrea xoxo

  13. Your dolphin photos are amazing. As is your energy. “Only” 7500+ steps? And working out in your yard in that heat? I’m speechless (we’ll, almost).....I remember seeing those ships in the distance at that Port A pasture and thinking they looked like they were traveling across a meadow as we couldn’t see the water.

    Love the dolphins.

  15. You still find beauty to capture, even in all that heat. That just sounds too hot for me.

    1. Oh it is hot...but, you have to conquer the temp, just like below freezing.

  16. I don't know where to start. I guess I will say I love that crepe myrtle...so pretty. The bison teeth make me think of Roger....I need to see if I can find his necklace he made. He took the spurs off turkeys he has killed and strung them on something...can't think if it is a leather strip or what. anyway, need to find it and take a pick...I forget what he put in the middle of them.

I would give a lot to have a place like that to walk...that was not too far from home...always love when you take us on your walks. Both when you show the birds you see and then just showing the area!

Oh, amazing photos of the dolphins...
