I didn't get much bird watching done on Sunday this past week. Instead, I just took a leisurely walk along the shore...

Through the lens, this was a beautiful sight!!

Her parents were nearby fishing...and such a doll she was.

Castle in the sand...quite intricate and detailed.

No, Not Ramen Noodle soup!! The seed is a tropical almond.

Underneath the sea slime lurks a whole sand dollar. I just left it there for someone else...years ago, it would've been different, but now, no need to have any more in our home, I have literally hundreds!!!
read about the legend of the sand dollar here.

About a week ago, I ordered a book about the Queen of the Desert. A biography, in short, of a woman who became a go-between...in fact, creating some of the countries' boundaries in the middle east decades ago. It was quite interesting and took me a couple days reading it in its entirety. Thing is, ironically, my sister was in fact reading about the very same woman...her book? Gertrude Bell - Queen of the Desert!!! I swear, sometimes, the things she and I do can be quite eerie being so many miles apart. Anyway, the book she was reading, I couldn't find...the hardback [which I prefer] has been out of print for quite some time. The two book stores Bud and I frequent didn't have it in stock. So, I went to the used bookstore, and they did a computer search and found one hardback covered in stock at the Dallas store...they ordered it and it was shipped to our house in a couple of days. Before I start this book tho, I wanted to finish a 2nd book I've been reading...you remember? CLEMENTINE [Mrs. Winston Churchill]. I completed reading all the way through that one on Sunday...at first I thought oh my goodness, she is a neurotic!! Well, it turned out to be such a worthy book....EXCELLENT. The epilogue and opinions at the end were written by Churchills' granddaughter...the ending brought tears to my eyes...I highly recommend this to anyone faintly interested in English/American history!!! Or women's studies.

I love your new fancy artistic little owls! what wonderful captures of this ship. It looks like it is being tossed about in a big storm! Is a tropical almond the same as a regular almond? Can you eat it? The sand castle is great!
ReplyDeleteI really can't say if it's edible...never did any research on it.
DeleteWow, that's some rough looking water that boat is navigating through. I think I'm sea sick just looking at it.
ReplyDeleteI used to have a sand dollar around here somewhere I don't know what happened to it. That is a pretty nice sand castle
I can hear the 'slap bang' of the hull as it comes down & hits the wave! Over & over...tossing & rolling...sorry! (jk)
Deleteboth of these beautiful shots of that big and oh so beautiful fishing boat. hubby used to go out deep sea fishing on one just like this, his friend owned it... he loved that boat. amazing pics of it blasting its way through the water....you sure found a lot of interesting things on the beach. have not seen a sea almond... and it has been years since I saw a sand dollar.
ReplyDeleteIf I had a bucket list, deep sea fishing would be on it!
DeleteWhat interesting pictures. I used to collect sand dollars, but I don't know what happened to them all, it's been so long. I will order Clementine from my library, it sounds like a good book. Thanks for the reading recommendations, Anni. :-)
ReplyDeleteI think you enjoy it!
DeleteThe shrimp boat pictures were very impressive! I see a baby ear in your sand dollar image. What surrounds the tropical almond? Miss shelling! I definitely plan to read Clementine upon your recommendation.
ReplyDeleteIt's just a fishing yacht. No shrimper. Clementine, I hope you like it as much as I did.
Deletewow, those images with fishing boat look dramatic. I wouldn't want to be there in a weather like that.
ReplyDeleteJust going through a wave.
DeleteAlthough the first pictures are beautiful in their own right, that water is much to wild for me.
ReplyDeleteActually, this is pretty tame. I've seen it worse.
DeleteThat water does look pretty wild! Beautiful photos again.
ReplyDeleteI love that you and your sister were reading about the same person. My sister and I often find ourselves saying things in unison when we are together. We're about to take a trip with her and her husband. My sister says our husbands don't know what they're in for - almost 2 weeks with the 2 ofus!
Oh that trip sounds like so much fun!!
DeleteThat boat looks like it is trying to blast through the water!!
ReplyDeleteI used to collect lots of things and books and such but having to go through several dead people's things and dispose of their treasures, stuff is just stuff to me any more, so I'd of left the sand dollar alone as well.
I end up collecting things & figure our kids will have 'a gay ol' time'.
DeleteI could have sworn I left a comment...but anyhoo...don't think I could take the waves for a deep sea fishing venture...I can't do buses!
ReplyDeleteNo buses? Maybe a motorcycle?
DeleteNever went deep sea fishing, when we lived in CA went on a whale watch it was so fabulous I sure do miss the days of picking up shells, I managed to have only 1 sand dollar still in tact after 17 years the legend is awesome thanks for sharing again. I loved finding the angel wing shells. That little girl is adorable I always loved the sand castle fest at Port A
