Got a good reason For taking the easy way out

Part of Charlie's Pasture is open again.

After the flooding in town and along the other coastal areas from last week, I decided to drive to the islands and check things out. A couple of my favorite areas to walk the boardwalks and trails didn't have much birding action, so I headed to the ship channel and Charlie's Pasture. Hooray!! The park road that follows the channel was open!! Partially. And there were warning signs all along the banks "Heavy Hurricane Damage, Proceed With Caution". The main gate to the pasture and boardwalk was locked tight...I got out of the car once I parked, and walked in. In all areas, I felt good getting out and about again! It seems like ages since I've actually totaled my step goal!!

This is some of what I saw...

Two Eurasian Collared Doves and Dragon Fly

Eurasian Collared Dove and Brown Pelican

Black Bellied Whistling Ducks and Many White Caps  on the Gulf

Fisherman on the South Jetty and look closely...a dolphin surfacing

Lydia Ann Lighthouse in Aransas Pass and my favorite trail at Charlie's Pasture..still out.

Part of Charlie's Pasture still inaccessible and a washed out trail.

Once home, I got creative and made cinnamon rolls!!  Fresh, hot cinnamon rolls.

  2. As much as I love all your pictures I want to know where the one of the cinnamon rolls is. I haven't had sweets of any kind in the house for quite some time now and I would have really liked drooling over a cinnamon roll picture. I even have my cup of coffee here to go with it. :)

    1. They're yummy. I also used sugar free icing. (I like the light flavor of the sugar free)

    1. Any sweet yeast dough recipe will do. Knead it, let it rise...roll it out, butter, cinnamon, sugar. Roll it out...cut ... let 'em rise again...bake at 325° 'til lightly brown. COOL. I
Ice with frosting. I use Pillsbury sugar free vanilla

  5. and I am glad there is no shot of the rolls since I can't have them and they make me want them. Charlies pasture is a place I would like to visit. I even like the washed out trail photo.. not that it is washed out but that it is beautiful... glad you could get out and walk...

  6. I like seeing the pelican and the dragon fly. My grandmother always called them snake doctors.

  7. I loved all the pictures, but especially the white caps and the dolphin (even if I had to sort of use my imagination with the dolphin). :-)

  8. OK. Do the ducks whistle?
Great pictures as always. I'm quite partial to dolphins after we had a pod of them follow our sailboat when we did the Inter-coastal Waterway some years ago. They were so friendly and came so close to our moored boat and I swear they were smiling at us.

  9. Glad to see the good news about the partial reopening .... love the nature photos and your throwaway last sentence!! If i ever actually met my 10,000 step goal, i'm sure i'd be too tired to even think about baking anything! The thought of homemade cinnammon rolls is making me drool.

  11. I love those whistling ducks. I am not sure that I have ever seen them live before. We saw all sorts of of brown pelicans during our recent vacation in Orange Beach, Alabama.
