...silence!!
please note: I may be M I A for a while. Explanation on my previous post seen HERE
Listen to the sounds! The gulls laughing, the herons calling a warning, the people talking as they walk the seawall, the bay water lapping against the wall, the ships' horns. But, if you're like me you can 'drown' all those sounds out and just listen to the music of silence as you gaze upon the sea-------

Last week, y'all took a walk with me along Indian Point and Sunset Lake. How 'bout a morning walking along the downtown seawall and stopping by while leisurely sitting on one of the many many benches where you find several gazebos looking out on the bay. It's a busy place. So much activity of water birds, ships, people walking and jogging...the wonderful spray of the fountains. And my favorite to watch when here, relaxing and enjoying the perfect weather for October...the shrimp boats!! Here, I hope you'll come along as I share about an hour's time looking out along the bay. As they trawl outside the perimeter with the nets dragging to collect their catch of the day to returning to the marina to sell their catch, the shrimper slowly makes its way through the breakwater [the large boulders to help BREAK storms coming into the city] then, stopping to drain the water, begin cleaning up and closing the trawler nets to make it through the small water channel to the docking area...all the time, the gulls and pelicans and cormorants follow in anticipation of the 'unwanted catches' tossed overboard ---
---then, there is much other ship activities. On this particular day, the Coast Guard Cutter was making the rounds along the exposed ship channel that eventually heads to Port Aransas and out to the Gulf of Mexico. The last of this Coast Guard series, I wanted to show you in comparing sizes of the USCG Cutter and the World War II aircraft carrier that is permanently docked at North Bay...
...while we were sitting enjoying the cool Autumn sea breeze and warm sunshine, a couple of very large flat bed barges played "chicken" of the sea. Watching them head into each other bow first...it's like they were playing the teen-age game of chicken...."Who's gonna turn off course first to avoid collision?" Neither!! They were actually a safe distance apart.
And lastly, the views of birds, the sea, the downtown Marina on People's Street and the Corpus Christi and Portland Causeway [bridge] that crosses the Rincon Channel in Nueces Bay. To the open, diamond-studded sea. Corpus Christi is often nicknamed the Sparkling City by the Bay....
...by the way, from downtown, looking across the bay, you can actually see Portland and Indian Point Park where Bud and I often go on a birding trek - enlarge the photos and the last smaller one in the last series of photos IS Indian Point Park!

Lovely and beautiful photography ~ love the 'critters' too ~
ReplyDeletehappy weekend to you,
artmusedog and carol (A Creative Harbor)
Anni, so enjoyed your beautiful photos. The boats remind me of the movie Perfect Storm and that passion for the sea.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos of everything. I do hear all the beautiful and inspiring sounds from the sea, your images make it perfectly mesmerizing!
ReplyDeleteI especially love the Pelican shot. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeletereally love the brown pelican!
ReplyDeleteI can almost hear the loud gulls. And I love the Pelican, they are another of my favorite birds.. The ships remind me of when my brother was in the Navy.. Great shots.. Thank you for sharing your post and linking up. Have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh, Anni--such a delightful post! It reminds me of our years so close to the ocean in the Tidewater area of Va. My husband's family (Dad's side) came over from Ireland to Delaware, moved down the Eastern Shore of Maryland into Virginia and then over to Mathews Co Va. Then a few of them moved into the Norfolk area. His great grandfather had been a boatbuilder as well as a farmer in Mathews, building deadrise oyster boats. We always wanted to buy and old one, and hope it had been one of "his." My hubby has a particular love of the ocean. The photos on your post remind me of so much of that!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a little back yard pond with a bridge over it, like you describe having when you were here. I did have a family of Gambel quails in my back yard once, the babies hiding in my tall grass(uh, weeds!) during the monsoons, and the Mom standing on the block wall calling to them. But they would NOT come out while I was out there, even when I went onto the porch. In fact, it was about 15 minutes (and Dad had started calling them too by then) after I went inside before they made a mad dash and escaped. :-) I'm pretty sure they ALL grew to adulthood with instincts like that! :-) But I didn't get a single baby picture!
Diamonds on the water in that last photo! All are lovely.
ReplyDeleteI love going on a walk with you and listening to the silence as I gaze at the pictures. It's a beautiful place you live, Anni, and I am just happy you are sharing it with me! :-)
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely photos of ships and boats.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to live near the sea. Great scenery, and I love that shimmering water.
ReplyDeleteA super looking Pelican.
ReplyDeleteYou make me want to go to the coast. We went two years in a row several years ago and haven't been back.
ReplyDeleteA quiet, reflective post, Anni. I love that photo of the shrimp boat being escorted by gulls! I see your witch is gone. Hope you're not too sad that Halloween is over.
ReplyDeleteWhile I was looking at the photos I was thinking it looked rather cold. Then I saw the guy with no shirt on. I guess cold is just something I've got stuck in my head right now since I saw snowflakes flying a bit today
ReplyDeleteThanks for the invitation to join you.I enjoyed the scenes, which are so different from what I see on the prairies.
ReplyDeleteDon't tell him he can't...he's a PELICAN!

A lovely series, Anni - they put us right in the picture!
ReplyDeleteIt's so fun to watch the gulls and terns following those fishing/shrimping boats. I must say I am a tad jealous of your brown pelicans. I have to drive pretty far south to see them. We recently acquired the white ones but they're not hanging out as close to the banks as they used to.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like such a peaceful view!
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking us on your walk. I love waterfront pics and shrimp boats.
ReplyDeleteNice post - that aircraft carrier is huge! Its only when you get close to these ship you realise just how bug there were.
ReplyDeleteCheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
