Marble Falls Sunset

  • I've been going through two folders on my computer...800+ images of birds in one and nearly 150 photos in another...all birds.

  • I'm framing all of the images, then, will put them all on one DVD [for our DVD player] and will add music to it, so we can view all the different birds we've seen in the last year and a half.

  • While doing this, I am also cleaning out other folders and images...deleting some, saving others in other photo folders....which instigated me sharing this photo...It's taken the first night in Texas Hill Country...Marble Falls, Texas...

  • The Super Bowl is getting closer...play off games are being followed. "My two teams"...Denver Broncos and Houston Texans may be pitted against each other; depending on the wins this weekend.

  • If they do win...that means they'll play against each other for Division Championship....there'll be some betting going on throughout our family across country if this happens!!

  • Bud and I went birding yesterday afternoon. I swear, if you don't get out early in the morning, and decide to go walking for exercise/birding in mid-day, you see nothing much in the line of feathers. Except for ducks mostly.

  • I did spot a white pelican with the 'hump' on its beak!! That means breeding season is upon 'em.

  • I read about the hump growth in one of my birding guide books...so, I've been looking for this!

  • Found a super book for $7 at Half Price Books...a first edition and autographed!!!

  • It's a novel about The Yellow Rose of Texas....a collectors item that is selling for $60 online! Whooohooo!!

  • Been clear and sunny for a couple of days...but come Sunday the clouds will open and pour some more rain on us...and cold, cold temps --in the low 40s mid 30s for nighttime lows predicted.

  • Birding migration, cold wet weather, NFL playoffs....winter has finally arrived!!

    1. Oh you lured me in with your sunset picture. Good luck with sorting through the photos. It is one of those jobs I keep planning to do, but the thought of starting it......argggh!

    2. That's a really good idea for your bird pictures. Hey, it's possible that the Seattle Seahawks will make it to the Superbowl too, you know. They play Atlanta this Sunday and if they win... :-)

    7. So funny - - - perspective.

I've been frustrated that we are TOO WARM here - - - lows in the 30's at night, highs in the 40's in the day.

I'm watching to see how Payton does in the playoffs too. I'm so glad he's had a great season after the way the Colts' ownership treated him.

I'm also pulling for Russell Wilson in the NFC. I've been following his "career" since he came on the scene at NC State, and of course last year he was our Badger QB.

      1. ...with the humidity being 80-100% that 30 degrees is like 15 degrees F!! Coastal temps are so very different; unlike landlocked temperatures. I'm not a fanatic with any of the Mannings myself...I just follow the Bronco 'cause it's my 'home state' team...since way back when they were quarterbacked by Craig Morton!

      1. Okay...to each his own...different strokes for different folks. I've NEVER liked the Cowboys...finally, Texas has some other team to 'talk about'. [I'm a Bronco fan from way back, and when Dallas socked 'em in the first super bowl....ewwww. Bad team. rofl]

    11. You are very ambitious....but what a great thing to do in the winter.....our nephew had photos on his TV when we were there for Thanksgiving.....they covered several years of the extended family and it was fun to catch a glimpse of some of us a few years younger, especially the children.....
I think January is just the month for sorting of some kind...I am doing that with our accumulated paperwork......
It was 60 degrees when I got up this morning and reached 65 yesterday so not feeling very wintry at the moment but that is fine with me.....Honey Bear and I need to go Birding if the rain will just stop.
      Have a good weekend,
      Mama Bear

      1. well, I've seen it before, but did NOT know what it meant.

    15. So what does the hump on the pelican's beak mean? Is it on the male pelican? I know that male birds have more glorious feathers to attract females. Sorry -- city kid here. :)

      1. ...that aspect, I haven't found any info as to whether is just males or both.

    18. That is a gorgeous photo! My son was devastated that the Redskins lost - he was at the playoff game in DC! And my 7 year-old grandson was practically inconsolable that they lost...until his dad brought him back the game book and a hat...I used to love football, but Dan doesn't watch it, so I have not seen it in 6 years. I really miss it...the Raiders were my team!

      1. ...football is okay, the GAME, but watching it on TV [which we don't do any more] is just unfathomable...1 hour game that lasts 3 hours!?!!! That's 2 hours of commercial breaks. No siree.

    20. Well---if winter has arrived there, spring has arrived here. Supposed to get up to about 70 degrees here tomorrow. Unbelievable for our area!

I like the Texans ---and want them to win. But--after playing so well for so long, they sorta fell apart the last several games. SO--I'm worried about their future.

      Beautiful sunset.

    22. I'll be in front of the tv for the playoffs too. Even though my team (neither of them) made it anywhere close. Shoot, one of them can't even spell play-offs. Pretty sure we need a cleaning out of some people---beginning with the owner. Sheesh. Anyway, my dad and I have taken some teams to pull for. He took Denver and I took Green Bay. I love it when we take opposing teams, especially when mine wins. LOL Your picture took my breath away! It is stunning! I miss having time to go out and take pictures of our lovely birds, but I am having a great time teaching again.

    26. I was pretty bummed that the Broncos AND Packers both lost yesterday. Peyton is like a god around these parts, and there is a Packer who went to Small Town High and played ball with my 2 oldest boys. I don't really care who wins, now.
Interesting about the pelicans...I had no idea. I enjoyed watching them when we were on vacation. They are such cool birds!
