As I mentioned earlier in another post, the Botanical Gardens here in town, a couple of years ago, began building a new "Butterfly House" with donations from its memberships. This past month, they opened it to the public, and Bud and I had to go through it. The area was filled with beautiful, blooming, flowers of all colors, stone pathways, fountains, and of course...butterflies. Even a few morphing chrysalis, some caterpillars of a couple of monarchs. All in a rainbow of assorted colors, sizes and shapes-------
First...butterfly attracting flowers in bloom and the butterfly fountain [in iron and stone, smooth glossy, polished textures]:
...then, the butterflies I spotted:
...this little booger didn't want to help me out in any way---I had a heckuva time getting a photo of its purple wings OPEN.
As I was checking out the last stage of morphing, the chrysalis, I happened to spy a monarch caterpillar munching away which I'll post a photo on MACRO Monday.

Wow! Gorgeous captures of those butterflies, Anni. I can see why you kept trying on that last one, they are just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI had never seen one like it except in picture books...it was a thrill...but it just didn't cooperate with me...never did see it fully open its wings.
DeleteHow beautiful! We have a butterfly show every year at the Krohn Conservatory here in Cincinnati. We love doing just what you did - walk among the butterflies and flowers with our cameras. Watching children enjoy the experience is even more fun. :) Just love your images!

DeleteThere's a Butterfly House in the St. Louis Zoo ... the last time we were at the zoo (6 weeks ago?), it was cool enough to wear a sweatshirt while at the zoo ... which made it a little too warm while inside the Butterfly House. But it was still worth it. Especially when we saw a Blue Morpho butterfly. Of course once we saw it, it refused to open its wings so we could get a picture of its beautiful blue wings. :-(

DeletePlaces like that if they're closed in...tend to have a lot of humidity and warm air...I can understand that it can be extremely uncomfortable for humans coming in from the outdoor chill.

DeleteMowzers, those butterflies are gorgeous! We kittehs especially like the sculpture photo. We think we could have a lot of fun climbing around on those textures! Ours is up too...

ReplyDeleteI really don't know for sure, the only sign I saw was "zebra"...that is the black and yellow striped. The rest, I couldn't find 'em identified.

Spring is slowly arriving here but your photos just made it pop forward for me! Beautiful colours. I always love viewing butterflies but one at a time - when I get too many a buzz I get girly about it ;)
