SHADOW SHOT

These following photo shots of shadows are of two with a very slight difference in angles...and I purposely photographed the first image without flash to show the shadow it casts in artificial light through the eyes in a natural setting with only the ceiling light fixture on her. The 2nd one is of the same object but with the flash activated - casting a whole different shadow image......

SUNDAY'S SUMMARY

Even tho I have an account with FACEBOOK...I only use it to log on and view family photos that other members of my family have shared. Well, after reading THIS little ditty, and reading some of the comments that followed the article...I'm ready to just go out and DELETE my account. Besides, with the smart phone and texting with photo attachments...this is all I need. No more FACEBOOK account for me. You can either 'deactivate' your account or request a permanent deletion. On another issue, if FACEBOOK makes money off my clicking, then even tho it's a free account, there should be at least some option of turning the feature off [the 'feature' being the subject of the article linked here in bold]. My opinion.

So far, so good. That is; in the house cleaning. Wednesday we began at sunrise and scrubbed and cleaned walls and ceiling: living room. We only took a dust mop to the ceiling in the living room because it's spackled. Also the same in the dining room. The vaulted ceiling in the living room is cherry wood and we waxed it all...got the huge ceiling fan washed [the globes] and dusted and waxed the fan blades. Cleaned out the fireplace of ashes...yes, we do use it during the holidays on chilly nights. We rearranged the pictures on the walls and washed the windows in the interior. Cleaned out the coat closet and scrubbed the tiled entryway. The biggest chore in this room was taking out all the hundreds of VHS/DVD collection and the old collectors' 33¹/³, dusting them, and getting them back in order. With the dining room it was all about scrubbing- windows, walls, the large turtle shell ceiling light fixture [it's fragile and I'm always leery of cleaning it in fear of chipping or breaking it], waxing tables and scrubbing the colored witch's balls [the nautical colored glass balls usually in jute] and pictures. The hutch was cleaned out, waxed and glass windows scrubbed. Friday, the hall bathrooms and hall/hall closet [check!]. Saturday, the guest bedroom [check!]. Today, a day off. And in a couple of days it'll be all done. I'm getting this itch in my hands...waiting patiently to get outdoors in my roses and flower gardens.

In reference to my blog title today, Madison is the mermaid character in the movie "Splash" played by Daryl Hannah.

  1. I like them both, but I do like the shadows cast by the first photo.

You've done great with all that cleaning - your house must be sparkling!

  3. Love how you show the different shadows according the light and the flash. Charmaine

  5. Hello thanks for your comment, looks like the mermaid would fit my shot too :)

    was a delightful film.

  7. Your shadow shot is so pretty. Thanks for coming by my post.

  8. I do the same thing with my lil' camera, having to hold VERY still is the problem, however some of the shots have fabulous effects, that's how I've been posting my pics of late.

I'll check out the facebook read. I too have an account but never use it, everyone wants to be my friend, but I really have no time for it, to gossipy for me!

Have a sunny Sunday...I wish, cloudy and cold in Iowa...sigh!!!

  9. hiya anni! thank you for your visit, and here's to a splendid week for you too!!! fb is getting a bit annoying now, with all these funny 'hidden' things. i too, have a lot of family overseas, which prompted me to join. but like many others, i'm seriously reconsidering this......

  10. oh, sorry, got completely distracted.... flashes do alter images quite dramatically, don't they. i prefer the first one, much softer...

  11. Anni what a different "mood" the two methods of lighting cast on this piece .. the first is rather haunting and Halloweenish !! The second is upfront, crisp and pretty !
Say ... can you make it over here and help me with Spring cleaning ?? LOL
    Joy : )

  13. Loved the mermaid statue plus the different shadow photos. I have canceled the like connections in FB and disabled the sharing button but I'm sure they'll get around it somehow. Have a great day and don't work so hard.

  14. Nice shadows! I had a facebook account and deactivated it. After a while, I reactivated it, but I rarely visit and almost never post on it. I just don't like it, I'd rather be looking at people's blogs :-)

  15. Anni I got tired reading about all the cleaning you and Bud have done!! You go girl!! I can't wait to have a house to clean again. There is no joy in cleaning this condo!!

  16. Anni I'm 100% in awe of your cleaning abilities....do you and Bud do that every year? LOL Something similar to that is on my schedule for April 1...the first day of my retirement. Hubby said that was a heck of a way to spend my first day of retirement but I want to get it out of the way for the rest of spring and summer.

    IF YOU SEE A SHADOW

    If you see a shadow
And want to keep it near,
    Point your trusty shooter
    (Make sure the lens is clear);
    Press with care the shutter,
Do not slam or sock it—
    Then you’ll have a photo
    To carry in your pocket!

  19. I'm not to facebook, don't like they are allowed to use all your info as they like :(

But I like all your cleaning, so take the first flight to Denmark and continued at my place :-D ...but after landing in Copenhagen airport it's OK you take a trip to Langelinie to see the famous danish Mermaid. Perhaps you can take shadow shots like your sunday photos ;-)
May the new week be all best for you and your loved ones!

  20. Hi Anni
I'm wondering how many mermaids Bud has in his collection! She's rather lovely with a lovelier shadow. and it is interesting to see the difference between the with/with/o flash.
You are a very thorough cleaner; way more ambition than I. happy SSS and have a great week!

  21. Have been wondering here what to do with hubby's extensive VHS/DVD collection. I'm sure no one wants to buy it! They're just sitting there gathering dust. Love the idea of having a spotless place! Good4u!

Still contemplating facebook - I've refused to 'like' anything from day one; I don't re-post other folks' status, no matter how sentimental or touching; and I report spam.

Have a great day of rest! God bless!

  22. Oh la laa...what a lady! :)

I deleted my FB account ages ago. Had enough adults stupid gossips...

  23. Very interesting to see the two shots, with the different light sources to supply the shadows!

  24. What terrific shadow shots, Annie! Amazing the difference the flash makes! Lovely little mermaid! Hope your weekend is going well! Enjoy!

  25. Hi Anni,

I love your mermaid, especially the second shot. Boy have you guys been busy, busy, busy! Good for you. We have to paint so bad that I don't want to tear everything apart until that time comes.

Thanks for being so enthusiastic about our post. That was such a special day. All that sun and 50* in the middle of January? It sure did lift my spirits to get out and back to nature.

I'm on FB, but don't put any special pics on there ... I refer everybody to my blog. I do put family pictures. I too keep my FB separate from my blog; just family and friends that I actually know. I haven't read the article that you posted yet. I do know that they change privacy settings on their whim and that it is hard to keep up with their shenanigans. Still, I do enjoy having everybody right there at my fingertips.

Oh, regarding your post of the other day about folks emailing comment replies? They are probably all hooked up with Google Reader, and when a blog comment comes in it shows up there. When everybody started to email replies, I thought, that is an extra step, why are they doing that? But I guess it isn't an extra step.

Well, what a letter I've made you read! Have a wonderful SSS, and thanks again for stopping by.

    Take care and God bless,
    Kathy

  26. Your shadow study is interesting; I avoid flash for many reasons, the main one being that photos I do with flash NEVER appear as I have seen them! Go figure! :>)
Congratulations on the progress you have made in spring cleaning!

  27. great post, love you my friend.

  28. Either view gives us the feeling of depth and motion. The fist one shows speed, the second one an elegant look at the mythical mermaid. Both are lovely shadows!

  29. Facebook is a time soaker. I only use it to plug stuff and look at familial pictures.

Ms. Mermaid does have a nice set. She probably has never had kids.

    Have a great week Hootin'!

  30. she casts a great shadow in both frames...

  31. Pretty mermaid! I like the natural shadow from the angle of your capture but both are cool!

  32. I like the almost-natural lighting better. But then, I tend to prefer it most of the time.

    ReplyDelete
  33. It's interesting that in the first shot there are more reflections, even though the image is a bit blurred from low light. I like experimenting with my camera too.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I like the shadow best in the top photo, even if the mermaid is clearer in the second. And how about that... a mermaid collection!
;) This is a pretty one.

  35. Lovely mermaid shadows :)

  36. Very creative shadow shots..it's never dawned on me to use my flash for that purpose!!!

I use my Facebook account pretty often to stay in touch with international friends, see their photos, etc, so I wouldn't delete it. I am careful with my settings and I hate all the crap that is on there, that' for sure...but, when I here from my wonderful friends in India and the Philippines - and see their photos - it's worth it.

  37. She's really a graceful mermaid.

I do have a FB account, but I do not spend too much time, just to see photos of friends and family.

  38. I love that first shot on the wall!

  39. To flash or not, that is the question. Often it makes a very different picture so I'll try both to see which I prefer.
I have no smart phone so I keep the facebook to see the little nieces and nephews otherwise I would get no photos.

  40. I didn't read that abour FB yet, but will when I'm done here. I held out so long as far as not doing that, but was eventually sucked in. It has taken away from my blogging though. The mermaid shots are cool. I like the 2nd ShadowShot the best, with the clean, sharp lines. Happy SSS!

  41. I deactivated my Facebook account too. I know some people love it but I keep hearing too many unsavory things about it. Plus I can't keep up with my blog and do FB too, just not enough hours in the day and I am trying to do some house cleaning too! :o) Always love your blog designs, very cute!!!!

  42. I like the first shadow best; I like the way it falls away from the figure.

I'm with on Facebook - just don't need it and just don't trust it. I envy your progress with spring cleaning, too. I've made a half-hearted start on my closet, but that's it.

  43. Cool photos. Thanks for sharing.

    Have a nice day, Boonie

  44. Ohhhh what a sexy mermaid, no wonder Bud likes them! hehe Great shadow shot:-)

Regarding Facebook, it's scary what is going on with it. I use it mostly to play a couple of games but starting to think it's just not worth it. Also heard on the radio that when you delete pictures and such on Facebook, it's not actually deleted, it's still available to whoever owns Facebook.

No doubt you will be very glad when all the cleaning is done! Think how your house will sparkle though:-) xoxo
