Bud has been carving wooden figures since he was a teenager. Long ago, his work was quite primitive and has improved over the years. But, I thought today I'd show you the very first two he did during a summer vacation from school. Both of them are carved from only ONE piece of wood each! One is a lumberjack and the other is an old west cowboy/gunslinger! His parents had them for ages, and when they passed on...well, we now have them displayed in our living room!! He carved them during the summer of his 13th year. They're now over 50 years old....

ReplyDeleteI'm glad Bud and you have those magnificient works of art that he carved so many years ago. They are treasures. I especially like the gunslinger. Of course I grew up with a father who loved the Old West.
The urn tells a story all of its own. What tales it could tell if only it had a voice.

ReplyDeleteWoodcarving seems to be one of those skills that is becoming a lost art.He did a nice job, I especially like the lumber jack. You'll have to show us a few of his more recent carvings. I'd love to see them.

ReplyDeleteThat is a great accomplishment for a 13 yr old. Much better than passing all the levels on a video game! :>) And my round clippers, if they are antique it is because I am. I am 55 and I think they were new when she gave them to me.

ReplyDeleteHe is extremely talented and it obviously a gift he was given at a young age. His figures have a folk art/primitive feel to them. I would very much like to see some of his later pieces.

ReplyDeleteAnni, I have not been around in a while, for I had grandchildren 10 hours a day for several months. Now have the whole family staying with me, as jobs are gone. I love the carvings! I always wanted to try. lol I want a totem pole. He did a wonderful job! They are just great!

It is just fabulous, but he has kept hes skills over the years, I know cuz I have seen some of his frames he has made for your paintings, not so long ago, and they too was work of arts.

ReplyDeleteAs usual, I'm a day late again. LOL. Today I"m a dollar short as well because DH said i spent too m uch money at Wal-Mart last night. LOL. Go figure. LOL. The figureines Bud carved are jst beathtaking and he did such a wonderful job on them. I wouls have to say the Gunslinger is my favorite because it looks more antiquish to me. I bet Bud gets alot of compliments on his carvings huh? Maybe he need to get back into it and sell some of his items. I enjoyed the story about the Urn. I must say tht is a very old Urn there. I love to sit down with an elder and liste to some of their stories from days goneby. Take care my friend and ahve a great weeken. May GOD Bless you and yours.

P.s We have two skylights on our back patio, which is right next to our dining room. They help to bring in a little extra light.
