“A wise old owl lived in an oak;
The more he saw the less he spoke;
The less he spoke the more he heard...
Why can't we all be like that bird?”

This past week, since last weekend, I've been slowly working on getting a few rooms in the house to celebrate Autumn. September is the month I decorate with a 'general' Fall decor. Pumpkins, scarecrows, Fall firgurines and colored Autumn leaves. [October of course I take everything down that is necessary and bring out my witch collection for Halloween. I then take those down and pack them away and bring out the Autumn again, and add some Thanksgiving turkeys and such until the end of November and start then all anew for Christmas.] I began with the fireplace mantel. On any given 'normal' day there are southwest figurines and trinkets like the photo shows below --- [all with mouseover captions]

Kathy at Life Goes On told me that she awarded me yesterday. And with great pride I show off the award she presented me. Thank you so much. And thanks for the lovely sentiment! You filled my day with sunshine! Stop by and visit with her if you have some time. Her blog is fantastic.

  2. Oh no ! not automn yet ! We didn't even have a summer this year ! and automn for me is the worst season in the whole year ! I just hate it because it is just before winter which I don't like either !

  3. We don't do so much seasonal decorating in our homes in Ireland, apart from Christmas, but I am getting lots of inspiration here!

    I love the before and after pics :)

    Thanks for sharing.

  4. Decorating for fall ranks right up there next to decorating for Christmas! I love all the fall colors and your decorations look very "fall festive".

    Have a great week!

  5. How cozy looking! I love Autumn! And your idea of decorating over all, taking away to add witches (which I hope you post!) and then adding back for Thanksgiving! Smart!

  6. I love fall the best, and am collectging more doo-dads as the years go by - I still don't have a lot. But this reminds me that I need to get them out. I just don't spend much time on my house these days! The girlies (3 of the 4) are all-consuming in the afternoons, and in the mornings, I like to be selfish with my time and read and go to the gym. But I will definitely get busy!

    I wish I could stop by for some of that cider - it's actually cool enough here today to enjoy it! Fall has come early - I hope it's not a harbinger of the winter to come!

  7. PS - I should add that I hope my techno guru can get my fall look going on my blog! She's busy taking 4 on line courses (which is why I have the girlies in the pm) and keeping her little brood cared for!

  8. Anni,

    I love all of your fall decor. That little scarecrow is my favorite. I'm glad you are in the spirit of things. It looks lovely.

    Thank you for designing my blog for autumn. It is perfect and wonder how you knew I love scarecrows. So much detail in it and you did a GREAT job. I love it.

    You are very deserving of the award. Your blog is a bright spot in my day.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  9. I will take that cider with ice please. I have not put up the first fall deco. Trying to get motivated by blog surfing. It is just too hot and humid here. I want to fall into a pool full of ice. LOL!

    Your decorations look so very good! I love what you have done. I need to go pull out my totes and see what I have, see what I need to get. :-)

  11. The autumn decor looks great. I did some remodeling a year ago and I wanted to use the fall colors for the new look in my living room. Now I need to get out there and do some shopping and hopefully find lots of sales.

    I've done a little decorating, I have a post in August titled: Our Newest Resident P.P. she is part of my decorating (and someone I can talk to).

    Thanks for inviting everyone to my blog, I appreciate that.

  28. Hi Hootin Anni, I always love your Native American stuff. Are you Native American? Also, fall is my favorite time of year, and I am so glad it's approaching. Thanks for sharing.

  29. Great job and wonderful native American items!
    I am still having a hard time letting go of summer so won't be ready to decorate for fall until at least a few more weeks! But yours looks so nice!

  30. Glad you liked my show and tell today!! I love showing off the beautiful things that I have. You wondered once why i was going to have to get rid of them. We are going to have to sell everything within the next couple of years..maybe sooner than that and move into our motor home!! I will not be able to keep anything like i have all around me. This is a major decision that we are having to make because of finances. I am hoping that my oldest daughter will want some of this but who knows. This is going to be very hard on me but i know that it is going to have to happen. We have no retirement and well no other choice..Thanks for stopping by..i so appreciate it..Sandy

  31. Ok, now you're making me want to decorate for Autumn!!! I so love the way you decorated your mantle...Autumn colours are so gorgeous, aren't they! You would have loved it at Home Sense where I went the other day...they have all their Halloween stuff out and omigosh, they've really gone all out this year. Even have witches 6 feet tall!! I thought of you right away...well not because I think you're a witch but that you love witches. Really! lol xoxo
