Well, around 2 pm Tuesday afternoon, it was about this close [insert an 'nth' measurement of two fingers]!!! I was sure it would rain! I went out and listened to the thunder, watched the dark clouds building, the insufferable heat; a rise in temperature even from the mid 90s that it was already. The hot air washed around my face, and I could almost smell moisture! Went in the house and unplugged the computer all to the thrill of hearing a 'big boom' of more thunder clapping above my roof. The house became still, the air was still....it darkened indoors too. Thundering continuously. But, alas, the storm drifted off to the west of us, blackening the horizon and the thunder slowly subsided. Much to my dismay. No rain still in our 'neck of the woods'. But at least there remains a potential. In the next day maybe? Or the next. Definitely before the weekend!!! [now insert crossed fingers] It rained somewhere close by tho, the temp went from mid 90s to 75 in no time.

ReplyDeletemy Uncle Pat would really appriciate the Morse Cdoe.He was a Ham radio operator for years.and can still rattle of things in code.

ReplyDeleteI wouldn't know how to start typing something in Morse Code. Hope you get the rain you need. We desperately need rain here in Middle Tennessee, too. Last year it got so hot and dry that the deer ate our tomatoes. I guess they were after the water in the tomatoes. Just hope that doesn't happen again this year.
ReplyDeleteHahaha ! and I thought your keyboard was out of work ! Your upcoming thunderstorm picture is amazing ! quite scary actually. This morning it was the same here, very dark I heard thunder but nothing came. As it rains all the time I was happy it didn't rain !

ReplyDeletei would love to know morse code! it must be interesting to communicate without speaking... i hope it rains because the atmosphere is really "heavy" and humid just before a big storm... it would be very refreshing to have some rain...

ReplyDeleteHo cool, I have one of those gadgets you can use for Morse Code. I received it when I was in the fourth grade. What a great WW picture and thanks for sharing it brought back some great memories. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhen I first moved to Israel (about 20 years ago) intl phone rates were still very expensive, and my parents were convinced we needed to learn morse code and get ham radios instead. Thank goodness the rates dropped, because that ham radio thing was way too technical for me! We'd never have spoken again LOL.

ReplyDeleteWe had a crack of thunder here a few days ago that nearly had me peeing my pants. It was that loud and close!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! My grandpa (who I never got to meet before he passed away) used to have ham radios, and he would sit at his desk and do Morse code for hours at a time! I think it drove my grandma crazy.

My big brother started doing morse code and ham radio stuff when he was in high school and I wasn't old enough for kindergarten yet. He got so good that he qualified for a very exclusive club that allowed him to have a custom call sign. Now you can get them for a price just like a license plate. He also worked for American Radio Relay League for many years. So it's always been more than play for him.
ReplyDeleteNow he has toys to help. His computer tracks the satellite. He also has software that translates Morse to English and English to Morse. He says he hasn't used a key in so long he's probably lost a lot of speed. He can still listen and translate, tho.

ReplyDeleteIt is raining here again as I type this. Not thunderstorms but a nice gentle rain. Even with all we've had the gardens are still dry and the water levels still low. We had more rain before the 16th of June than we had in the entire month last year. And the year before that was drought.
Wish I could send you a little of ours. It was a lovely day today, not hot or humid with a nice breeze.
Hope you get that rain you're needing.
