This week's theme - SALTY
Me, being a wife of a navy man/turned government worker, now retired-when I saw this week's theme being 'salty'...the thought immediately came to 'old salties'....Sailors!! Salty, because of the seven seas I guess...So, I'm using the derivative of salty this week, and using 'salt'!!
From WorldWebOnline.....
Noun: old salt [pronounced: ówld solt]
- mariner, seaman, tar, Jack-tar, Jack, seafarer, gob [US], sea dog
Derived forms: old salts Type of: crewman, sailor
This photo is some of our 'old salts' carvings and figurines.
Happy sailing!!!

From the Ballad of John Silver
"......We chased the goodly merchantmen and laid their ships aboard.
Then the dead men fouled the scuppers and the wounded filled the chains
And the paintwork was all splatterdashed with other people's brains.
She was boarded, she was looted, she was scuttled till she sank
And the pale survivors left us by the medium of the plank.
Oh then it was how saddening by the aft rail on the poop
You could hear the drowning folk lament the absent chicken coop.
And having washed the blood away we had little else to do
Than dance a quiet hornpipe as the old salts taught us to."
Very good!!! love your take on the theme because mine is a bit similar *wink*

ReplyDeleteThose are the coolest figures I've seen in a while. Awesome.
ReplyDeleteI love these.
ReplyDeleteGuess what I can dance the horn pipe, we used to have to wear straw hats, half of the boys uniforms including the white tops and colars with hideous white plimsolls. I so didn't like that part of Sea Cadets, the embarrassment they caused at times.
Great variation on the theme. Very original.
ReplyDeleteMine's up.
That's a good one! I did think of salty old men when I first thought about the theme, but I didn't have anything picture wise.

Your "old salt" reminded me of Mom's grandad who used to collect wooden sailors until he started carvin' his own. He's been gone over eleven years now ...
