“A wise old owl lived in an oak;
The more he saw the less he spoke;
The less he spoke the more he heard...
Why can't we all be like that bird?”

Speaking of snow [I was speaking of snow, wasn't I? LOL]...
April 17, 2009

I'm sure glad we no longer live in Colorado. Boy howdy do I remember these kinds of eye openers in the wee hours of the morning. Interstates closed. Dangerous living in all kinds of situations: driving, schools, fire hazards [because you use your fireplace and wood burning stoves more], temperatures dipping below freezing, your animals...oh so much to be thankful that we're in the tropics. [Colorful Colorado? Ya, white, white, white!!!] I'm too old for snow. And speaking of where we've lived, there is also the fact that we resided right after we retired....in the desert. Ummmm, the promotional motto to get one to move there is "But it's a dry heat" ---when the temps rocket to 110 degrees plus [Farenheit]....in July and August? I don't think so!!!! The heat, with the very HIGH humidity, is unbearable!!! Dry heart my furry behind----the temp + the humidity=extreme heat index: Like 120 plus!! At least here in subtropical Texas, the temperature rarely goes above 100 in the summer, so the heat index is nothing like AZ in July and August. And we have a sea breeze [ya, I know, there's a high chance of a hurricane coming in too....] Let's face it, you can't get away from Mother Nature. No matter where you live.

...and baseball! Pshaw!!!
What a hoot.
This season, for me and 'my' teams, it literally sucks swamp water.
Houston, Arizona, and Colorado? On or near the bottom in their divisions. They'd all better start perking up and getting some wins. Golly Gee. Gloom despair and agony on me. LOL

  1. I chuckled when I saw your answer to paper clips being more useful to boogers! Hahaha! So funny and yet so true.

Only kidding as I am a BIG Obama supporter as well :)

  4. LOL @ not blinking through the town... we have quite a few towns like that around here!

  5. #27 - I will definitely take that to heart. Thank you.

  6. Good answers. Liked your answer to #21 especially, which made me laugh (indeed, what sort of question was that?).

  7. If you've been reading me this week, you know that Colorado weather is bipolar! We had wonderful rain for 3 days here n our town, a bit of it turning to a very slushy snow that didn't do any damage. Our grass looks wonderful this morning as the sun has returned. But I wouldn't have wanted to be in Estes Park, parts of Denver, of Colorado Springs this week. As I've said before, I couldn't live in your humidity or Arizona's "dry" heat, so I'll stay put here in Colorful Colorado!! You're right though - there's no perfect place for weather. I've lived lots of humid places and can hardly visit in the summer and breathe at the same time.

Love the answers - some we are in total agreement. The Beatles, going in water over my head, loved high school, Susan Boyle (I editorialized on that issue a bit yesterday), 80s and 90s music.

    Have a great day!

  8. Same here with #2. Happy Sunday!

  9. You're right, I haven't had to scoop snow from a long driveway, but have been stuck in my culdesac and at the mailbox and in my work parking lot on occasion - not fun. But it's kinda like childbirth - you forget the pain when the sun comes out! Where did you live that you had such bad memories??

I'm glad we're both living where we are satisfied, aren't you?? And I have to say that anyone who doesn't move to Colorado or leaves for somewhere else is that many fewer people for us. Hee-hee!

  10. wow. What a post. You're not a teenager? You look so young in your picture (shameless, I know).

I know plenty of people with high IQ's that are idiots and people with low IQ's that do great things.

  11. That explains a lot - especially why you headed for the furnace for awhile before you settled in a more moderately hot place. I was born in Minnesota and have horrid memories of trying to get back there for holidays when we had moved away - to Nebraska! International Falls is the least favorite place I've ever lived and I have few good memories of that ice box of the nation. I knew you'd lived on the plains, but missed the mountain part. Thanks!

  12. Dawn Furnace? Well, to be real honest, living in Tucson in the summer is more like a steam bath...even compared to here. I broke out in a sweat before I got out of bed there...here, like I said we have a sea breeze coming through our yard and it's not quite as intolerable as Tucson's summers.

  13. I still shiver when I imagine a cockroach and on a leash !! I think I would find when I see such a big ugly thing !
I don't even try the test, I am sure I can't beat him ! But there are some very intelligent Republicans here around with a IQ of 50 that's my guess ! They certainly would beat him ! At least they would be convinced that they are more smarter !

  14. Great post, Anni. I, too, hope you'll be here next year. That made me smile.

  18. I enjoyed reading your meme. I'm so glad we don't have cockroaches that big here (I've never seen one of any size here) but we saw ones the size you describe in Mexico. They were ginormous!
A belated Happy Birthday to your husband. Glad it was a good day!

  19. Anni,

Enjoyed learning more about you in your meme. You've posted some great answers.

Snow in April? Not even Canada has that, although we could. It's not unknown. I've seen snow on Mother's Day, but nothing that accumulated much. You just never know.

Enjoyed visiting with you today. Glad that Bud had a great birthday.
    Blessings,
    Mary

  30. Love the meme you *stole* for this week. I may have to steal it form you.

And I agree that the *are you smarter than* is probably a hoax. I've done them before, although not against Obama.

    Happy Birthday to Bud.

I'm glad I'm not in CO also.

Not a baseball fan, but with baseball come summer, and I am a fan of that!

  37. Nice to see the kitties!
I agree with you: give me a dry heat anytime, the humidity kills me!!
    Happy Monday!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Let me just say...I usually think no one should post a photo of themselves on their blogs, but, everytime I see yours I think, "Oh! It's Hootin' Annie! I like her!"

BTW, I was once attacked by a cockroach in Houston! And to this day, in my kitchen, here in CA, is a saucer turned upside down. Why? 13yrs ago, when I moved in there was one of them there Texas-style cockroaches. I put the saucer over him and have never looked back. I tell everyone to just not move the saucer. It will still be there the day I move out.

  39. I so enjoyed reading your answers to all those questions...you really cracked me up at some of them! hehe How exciting that you got to meet so many of these celebrities. As you know, I collect celebrity autographed photos so I'm always fascinated with anyone who meets them in person:-)

Oh yes, Susan Boyle ROCKS for sure, I have watched her video about 100 times by now and get shivers each time. Like you, I really don't like all the flack about her looks...I'd rather look like her than all the fakeness you see in Hollywood!!! Have you heard her sing "Cry Me A River" yet?

You're so right, no matter where we live, we can't get away from Mother Nature! I'll never forget the year we had heavy frost in June and snow in July...I was NOT very impressed. lol xoxo

    ReplyDelete
  40. That's so cool that you got to meet Obama! ;)

I came from a small town too. When we first moved there around '77 there were only 2,000 people. I think the population is about 7,000 now.

  41. Loved reading this post!!!! It was great!!! I know you spent some time doing this one! I need to do a new post one of these days myself! Just not enough time in a day for me some days...LOL
