A Job of Work

Finally! Beginning this week, I started the long anticipated job of work that will no doubt take weeks, if not months, to complete. So, if I am not posting blogs you will know I'm up on the ladder, painting!! Back in August, when we had our home's foundation work done, I've been waiting for temps to cool down outdoors so I can open the house up, patch up wall cracks that were created from the sinking, and then take pictures down off the walls, patch holes, etc. Preparing for an entire face lift of a new coat of paint throughout. And this time, I'm doing away with each room a different color...I'm going with an light off-white thru the entire house. The paint strip tells me it's called "Blank Canvas". Hey, I liked the name of the paint color.   Just think of what all you can do with a "blank canvas".  LOL
So I got the patching done in the kitchen, and Monday morning I started painting! Bud is rewiring the light switches and outlets to "match" the wall color as best as possible. I used to paint over them, and of course the "old colors" were standing out like a sore thumb. Now, they blend in pretty well. Wednesday I finished...one down and nine more to go! Plus the hall way. I will no doubt do the hallway next. I am also rearranging frames of my art, and photos. The one entire wall in the kitchen is of my sketches and paintings [the same wall extends into the dining room by the hutch, so that part is done also]. I now call it my Wall of Frame.  [before is image above]

  1. Nothing like a new coat of paint to freshen things up. Years ago I had different colors in each room but the last time we painted it went to all antique white. I loved the fresh clean look.

  7. Good for you. That is a BIG job. I have painted an off white for the last several years throughout my place(s). Have moved 5 times since I started doing all off-white. It really makes a nice background no matter what you decide to hang on the walls. This last time I used Irish Mist and love it...A nice creamy white and I have used White Dove for trim for at least 30 years! xo Diana

  12. Leave it to an artist like you to choose a color named Blank Canvas! I envision your house as large, so this must be an enormous project! I hope you don't get really stiff and sore!

That's quite a job you've undertaken. I hope it all goes splendidly. I think you'll love the brighter rooms. Years ago we did several rooms in Desert Sand which I now find a bit Blah but I'm no painter and my DH isn't either so.... Granny M.

  17. Well done. And I had to chuckle, we are working on the trim work in our kitchen. We remodeled our kitchen January/February. Then Spring sprung and we never got around to the little things. I wanted it 100% complete by December 4th. A great Christmas gift. :-)
    Good luck!!

  25. This turned out really well Anni. I think I will paint my walls come spring, winter is too rainy here in Mostar. Love your frames on the walls and how you have arranged them. I will be doing something like that in my apartment as well. Great idea! Good luck with the rest of the work.
