Wednesday morning, after I stopped to have my blood drawn for a metabolic and liver test [because of the Rx, statins], I took myself out for breakfast since I had to be fasting for 12 hours before the lovely needle headed my way. Then, off to the islands for another trek in search for the rare [vagrant] ducks seen along the ship channel for the last few weeks. They are most always found up north [yukon, northwest territories].
Normally, when I do walk the channel's jetty, I stop at the end of the paved path and turn around to walk along the beach. On this morning, I was determined to find the ducks, if they were still here, even if I had to walk the entire jetty to the end where the channel meets the sea! Total distance from where I parked the car to the end is estimated to be about 1/2 mile. Once beyond the paved path...nothing but boulders the size of a pickup bed and larger...all layered and jutting up, caving downward, and mostly angled unless you're at the water's edge...which I avoided since the spray from the surf made it slick and treacherous going. I remained in the center of the jetty. Birders and fisherman were at the end. All in search of something special. Either the reported vagrant ducks or a nice catch to take home and fry it up in a pan. Now, I ask you...who needs a gym membership when you have this for exercising?
Dolphins, gulls, pelicans, terns, egrets and sunshine and surf entertained me as I kept going forward! When I reached the end of the jetty, no ducks were seen. Turning back...ugh! Nobody told me I had to go back!! Wait! I did find the two rare ducks along the Gulf side of the boulders, sunning themselves on a moss covered knoll. I went, I conquered. I was pleased. Another bird for my record keeping. But, oh, the backs of my legs are cursing at me for climbing those slick rocks and thousands of steps.
Nothing beats outdoor exercise with nature to enjoy all around you, which affords great views and photo opportunities! Beautiful photos and I love the view down the jetty which adds great depth to the composition.
ReplyDelete😊 thanks Steve
Delete-chuckle- Backs of legs cursing you!! I bet they were!
ReplyDeleteIt is so wonderful that you have continued to do such exercise, and thus, are still able to do it. Better than the statins. :-)
Doc gave my husband statins which made him soooooo tired. Gotta' change to another. AT his age, a fall would be worse than blood pressure.
Statins are for cholesterol
DeleteI hope your blood work comes back showing all that exercise is making you healthy, too. Even with sore legs. :-)
ReplyDeleteDiet is the culprit for me ...still
DeleteThe very best way to exercise is outdoors in the fresh air! I can't wait to get out there myself! Hope your blood tests come out ok.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeanette!
Delete"Now, I ask you...who needs a gym membership when you have this for exercising?"
ReplyDeleteI so agree, Anni! Like you, I do A LOT of walking. Most city people do because that's how most people get around. But I'm obsessed with walking. I love walking as much as many people love running. It's great exercise and good for so many things. Plus, I just find it fun and enjoyable.
Glorious selection of photographs! That's one of the things I miss about living in Florida 2 1/2 from the beach -- the water.
Hope you're having a fantastic day, Anni!
I'm not a "city folk", but I prefer walking. Any day.
DeleteYou do discover the most beautiful spots, Anni, and your photos are always beautiful! Fasting is the worst.
ReplyDelete...especially since I'm an early riser and have breakfast before sun-up.
DeleteLovely walk. All that exercise is a benefit, whether it's begrudged or not. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's not as painful today.
DeleteBreakfast treat after fasting tastes so much better. Hope your results are what you are looking for. Those rocks did not look like fun to navigate. Rest those legs.
ReplyDeleteThey're okay by me, but we'll see what "doc" has to say.
DeleteOh look!
ReplyDelete"She's" in a better mood!
"She" means "ME"
💛 💛 💛 💛 💛 💛
Whatcha advertising today? Be there when I can
DeleteWow, you were brave and determined. It does look dangerous out there. You, of all people, certainly do not need a gym membership!
ReplyDeleteIt can be tricky walking!! But, I'd do it again if I felt I had to.
DeleteAnd no gym is going to have interesting scenery and fresh air!! At least you saw some rare ducks ( and got lots of exercise).
ReplyDeleteA total work out!!
DeleteYep, that looks like a bit of a work out. Way better than going to a gym though.
ReplyDeleteA++ and 3 gold stars!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood for you to get your steps in, and what beauty along the way...I can see why you have achy legs but the scenery was well worth the effort.
Sue
They're better today. No pain. 😊
DeleteFinding the ducks must have made it all worthwhile.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely!!!
DeleteYes, walking around there sure does look like great exercise!!
ReplyDeleteMuch better than a Gym and you sure can't beat the scenery.
I like being outdoors, walking. Like you.
DeleteYou had me at "breakfast" LOL. Just the back of your legs hurt??? Yikes...the front, back, and sides of every inch of me would likely be screaming. I do walk a lot every day....but you'd walk circles around me. Glad you found you elusive ducks. To me, all ducks are pretty much the same...unless they are baby ducks. Not may things cuter than a duckling. ~Robin~ (And a dolphin??? No way! Color me stupid...I did't realize there were dolphins down there!!! Too cool!)
ReplyDeleteWe ARE on the coast. Lots of dolphins (and sharks). You sound like Bud. He says "just another duck"! 😄
DeleteI am glad you finally found them! Don't you hate knowing something is there, but not being lucky enough to see it.
ReplyDeleteI'm always disappointed if I can't find 'em and other birders do!
DeleteOh Anni in my mind's eye 'we' had a lovely breakfast and a most invigorating walk.
ReplyDeleteWOW!!
Hugs Cecilia
I had sausage (I splurged). lol
DeleteI am imagining myself watching you walking over and around those rocks! Yikes! Are you using your new camera there? I don't see the two rare ducks.. You are amazing with your regime of stepping out! (down? around?)
ReplyDeleteThe bird photos will be shared tomorrow on my bird blog. Check my sidebar here next week for link. (Yes, new camera).
DeleteYou certainly got your exercise. A wonderful series of photos Anni. Hope you had a good meal after fasting for that long :)
ReplyDeleteLater in the evening, I cooked some favorites...that helped. LOL
DeleteHello, and thank you for visiting Katie Isabella. You mentioned my comment on cauliflower pancakes and I remember making one, but for the life of me, I can't think where I made it. I think I said something to the effect that one can just eat food prepared traditionally, and just not eat too much. I would rather have a few spoonsful of traditional potatoes, or whatever the food...than an odd pairing of ingredients to make a simile of the real thing. I'm an old fogey and like old fogey traditional food. Old fogeys can be that way! :-) Love your blog today. We have many similar interests. Thank you again for the visit.
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking some time to stop by.
DeleteBrave girl, walking that jetty! So glad the ducks were seen and recorded.
ReplyDeleteI was glad too see them too 😄
DeleteGorgeous photo shares. You live in a beautiful area. Breakfast is my favorite meal. So I am always happy to have it. Ducks always put on a show when we can walk at the open spaces. This snow needs to go away. Even Alaska had a few temps higher than our temps. My friend Judy thought it was laughable as she has lived in Alaska the past 30 plus years.. haha Thanks again for sharing. ENjoy the week.
ReplyDeleteI even like breakfast for dinner!!
DeleteSore legs are OK as long as they're not broken. I'm glad you stayed safely in the middle on that long walk on a slick jetty. And I'm super glad that you accomplished your goal. The harlequins are wonderful -- so are all the other sightings you mention. Nothin' like where you live for wonderful birding.
