I took a short drive in mid-day last week once the fog lifted and the sun came out bright with a clearing sky. I drove up the Interstate 37 corridor to the Kingsville, Texas cutoff...in hopes of seeing some early Texas Bluebonnet in bloom!! I found some. The blossoms are quite small this year, I imagine due to the freeze in February and the severe drought outlook of the season [we're 5+ inches of rainfall below normal]. But, like clock-work, they send us promise of a beautiful landscaping for a short time. I will return a week or two from now, to see if there is some orange and pink Indian Paint Brush mixed in with the blue. This is the Texas State Flower. What is your state flower? Do you know? [All I know are the states I've lived in...Arizona: Saguaro blossom, Colorado: Blue Columbine, and Nebraska: Goldenrod] ...And a favorite flower of mine in our yard, Hawaii's state flower: The Hibiscus.

LOVE your Bluebonnets! Our state flower is the Mountain Laurel and it a gorgeous flower too.
ReplyDeleteJust looked up mountain Laurel and it's spectacular!!!
DeleteTexas wildflowers are amazing to me, i have seen so many of them in the years I have been blogging, because of You, Linda and Theresa being in Texas. I know none of the 3 states, flower or bird. I took a peek on line just now and Florida and Gerogia have 2 each. KY is Goldenrod. and i can remember Cherokee Rose for GA because that was my CB handle back in the 80's
ReplyDeleteI have to look up the Cherokee rose.
DeleteHello Anni,:=) I just love blue flowers, cultivated or wild, and ever since I have seen your Blue Bonnets have admired their great beauty. It's just breathtaking to see a field full of them. I used to see them on the "RUN AROUND RANCH" I miss seeing them, and Teresa, so thank you for sharing these lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteThey're kinda sparce in our area of Texas, unless you know where they are.
DeleteHello Anni,
ReplyDeleteYour bluebonets are so pretty. Lovely shots of the wildflowers. Maryland's state flower is the Black-eyed Susan. Take care, wishing you a great new week!
Hope you're having a good blog break!!
DeleteThey are so pretty Anni! Of course our state flower is the orange blossom.
ReplyDeleteThe orange trees took a battering here!!
DeleteThey are just beautiful! I always look forward to your Bluebonnet photos. How long will they last? Our state flower is the Dogwood.
ReplyDeleteLasting a couple of weeks..
DeleteBut, the bloom later up north.
Those bluebonnets are so beautiful, Ann. Our state flower is the Sweet Violet and has always been one of my favorite small spring flowers. I would pick them on the hillside across from our house on the farm in PA where I grew up. Lovely photos, as always. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteViolets! Beautiful.
DeleteI have no idea what our state flower is! I suspect its the traffic construction barrel, though! I see them all over the place!
ReplyDeleteRoflmao! Love this.
DeleteOurs is the yucca, the plain wild one with cream bells. I have to respect any plant that can make it out here with no irrigation! Although it isn't as pretty as some.
ReplyDeleteI love yucca (I posted a couple photos of them I saw here).
DeleteI just love wildflowers of any kind! I don't think they get the reverence they deserve, especially the ones that are called weeds. All are precious, none more than others.
ReplyDeleteI like wildflowers too. Very much.
DeleteThis will be a beautiful display. Dear Lady Bird and her flower project. I know, that's not the official name. Which I don't remember. But, official name or not, I think it was and is, a wonnnnnderful thing.
ReplyDeleteI don't see much Indian Paint Brush anymore, but then, I am not out, rambling about, where it would grow. Remember red/orange, from my childhood. It was my favorite and not as plentiful. So special. -smile-

I think of lady bird too.
DeleteA few years back, we had a superbloom of the California poppy, our state flower, and it was one of the most incredible sights. Fields and hills as far as you could see were covered with orange flowers. I will never forget it. But I also saw something when we stopped on the Texas prarie, back when I came to CA. It was night and I looked up and saw a sky so brilliant with stars it took my breath away. One of my best memories ever.
ReplyDeleteI bet that was stunning!
DeleteWould love to see a field full of those lovely bluebonnets. You made me look. Our flower is the apple blossom. Guess we were huge apple producers in the 1900's.
ReplyDelete...they smell so good!
DeleteOh I would love to see a field of those gorgeous blue flowers.
ReplyDeleteOur state flower for California is the Golden Poppy. Fields of them are so beautiful too.
Sue
They always make the news!
DeleteI love wild flowers! Beautiful. Maryland state flower is the black eyed susan.
ReplyDeleteThey're pretty too.
DeleteHere in NM it’s the Yucca. But it's the California poppy that I still love.
ReplyDeleteI bet you see those poppies too, in the desert areas.
DeleteOur state flower is the rhododendron, which is just beginning to bloom around here. It's a gorgeous and prolific flower. I also love bluebonnets! :-)
ReplyDeleteHmmm, that's new one for me.
DeleteOhio's state flower is the red carnation. That seems silly to me since they do not grow here in profusion nor in anyone's gardens.
ReplyDeleteI am partial to carnations as cut flowers, though. They last forever and smell a little spicy.
I like carnations.
DeleteI'm looking forward to seeing the photos of those fields of blue. In Canada,my province, Manitoba's flower is the Prairie Crocus. They should be showing up before long.
ReplyDeletePretty, I bet.
DeleteThey're very pretty. I didn't know what the state flower was Pennsylvania so I had to go check. It's the mountain laurel
ReplyDeleteI looked those up (someone else had MTN.Laurel)...pretty.
DeleteYour bluebonnets are so pretty! Glad you found some.
ReplyDeleteMichigans state flower is the apple blossom.
Oh, I bet it's pretty in Spring, in Michigan.
DeleteSuch a pretty looking flower.
ReplyDeleteNice to see your photographs.
All the best Jan
Thank you, Jan.
DeleteI like bluebonnets although isn't blue bell the same. Our state flower is syringa or mock orange.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Two, very different flowers.
DeleteOHHH, I so love these! So glad to see some.
ReplyDeleteIndiana's state flower is the Peony, and I remember the Tennessee state flower as the Iris...but saw one place listed the passion flower. Another I did find the Iris and the Passion Flower and also the Purple Coneflower.
