A young man at the age of 23 used over 50,000 lights to decorate his yard for Halloween. Bud and I did a short drive-by to see his work. We both think it's a bit "over-kill" [no pun intended], but since Halloween is so different this year for so many, it was a bit exciting to see his work. It was all animated and set to music on a local radio station to the tune of Thriller and others. I took two photos...

And what you're here for...the mystery #10 from my Scavenger Hunt. Thanks to all who played along. Much appreciated, and a lot of fun.
From Wikipedia...
The Witches ball is still today used extensively throughout Sussex, England and continues to hold great superstition with regard to warding off evil spirits in the English counties of East Sussex and West Sussex. Examples of the Witches ball in use can be seen in the windows of houses throughout the counties anywhere from small rural villages to coastal towns and cities. Examples can also be seen in shop windows as
well but all too often you will find that they are not for sale as they are so highly prized. Examples in Sussex often include glass fishing buoys and mirrored clear glass as well as red, blue and gold mirrored glass. So many guesses were nearly correct! I was amazed. Nance guessed correctly...My witch's ball has been hanging at this window for nearly 17 years after I bought it on a trip abroad, making a macremė hanger for it. I like to think it's serving its purpose!!

I have never heard of a Witch's Ball! But I have seen this kind of glass ball in fancy gift shops. so now I know what they are called! Yours is gorgeous!! Are you putting out treats for Trick-Or-Treat?
ReplyDeleteNo...our city is discouraging door to door trick-r-treaters this year.
DeleteLove your witch's ball and your Halloween costume!
ReplyDeleteI like YOUR costume too, Molly!

DeleteHello Anni,
ReplyDeleteThe witches ball is pretty. I am sure the yard with all the Halloween decoration is very popular with the visitors. Take care, enjoy your weekend!
I'm sure some of his neighbors aren't too appreciative...even for the fact of increased traffic flow.
DeleteWow, that's a lot of lights. Some people really do like their Halloween decorations. I would hate to have to take all that down.
ReplyDeleteLove your t-shirt.
I never would have guessed witch's ball in a million years. It's really pretty.
According to our news station that gave us his address...he does the same for Christmas!
DeleteJumping Cat fish and Flying Ghouls I would not want that light bill.
ReplyDeleteJust realized I have not seen your hunt items heading over now and thank you for hosting this fun hunt
Hugs from your ghoul friend
Cecilia
Well, I do like your witch's ball and also your Halloween costume.
ReplyDeleteAs the grandchildren would say 'they are cool'
Talking of the grandchildren even though because of Covid Halloween festivities are a little different this year, they are so excited ...
Happy Halloween Weekend.
All the best Jan
That's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWitch's balls are actually sold in our local hospital pharmacy! Yours is very pretty.
ReplyDeleteThat is one ambitious young man. Wonder what his Christmas decorations will look like? Like your shirt and wouldn't have guessed a witches ball. I did think the hanger looked macrame.
ReplyDeleteI dont have a witches ball (yours is not scary, but beautiful) but I do have a primal scream face voodoo doll in my window pointed at my neighbor from hell. ;) I think it works. I like your indoor display much more than your neighbors. Yours is quiet and pretty. His just makes me think about his electric bill. LOL
ReplyDeleteLove the colors but wasn't even in the same ball park as the other answers.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this fun Scavenger hunt . Lets do it again sometime.
Sue
Wow! That guy really takes Halloween seriously. I wonder why.
ReplyDeleteI like the silhouette on your teeshirt. Reminds me of the style of Tim Burton.
Your witches ball is really pretty.
ReplyDeleteSome people go all out with the decorating!!
I've never heard of a witches ball. Yours is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of a witches ball either. Who would have guessed something that pretty....
ReplyDeleteOh WOW...aren't those lights amazing?! I have seen a few houses around here absolutely covered in lights too. As you say, I guess Halloween this year was very different from usual. It felt very strange not having any Trick or Treaters!🙁
ReplyDeleteYes, the tradition of the Witches Ball is a big thing in Sussex, and there are quite a few of them around here in Hampshire too. I have never owned one, but I would like to someday. They are SO beautiful!😊😊
Have a super day!
Hugs xxx
What an amazing display of light! I'm sorry I missed your scavenger hunt. Will try again next year! Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteGreat drive-by shots of the neighbor's decorating. They sure went all out. I would have associated witch's ball with those crystal balls. To our chagrin, they had trick-or-treating here. But we played it safe by leaving the wrapped treats spread out on a table so that different hands weren't reaching into a bowl. We stayed inside and watched from the windows and waved. Toward the end, we urged them to take two or three treats so that we could kill the supply. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove your witch's ball Anni...that is one thing I don't have...YET ;)
ReplyDeleteHugs 🔮
Forgot to say that I enjoyed the young man's decorations.
DeleteA lot of time and energy went into his ode to Halloween 🍂🎃🍁🌙
Spectacular new header banner..did you paint this one? It's definately a wall hanger!!
ReplyDeleteI was too late for your scavenger hunt Anni but looked like a lot of fun. 50,000 lights? Wow! We have a house near us who does that only at Christmas. I always enjoy driving by. Pretty glass and I love your shirt.
