I just haven't felt like blogging much. I get in those moods more often than not these days. I guess mainly I can blame it on Covid. I don't know what else it could be. I'm not as active in my daily walking routine lately. Last week, it was mostly spent cleaning up debris in our yard[s] from the storm that was over us. Then, two days last week, it was raining and oh so very humid. I just lingered at home and crocheted and read. Oh, one morning, I got a spur up my rear end and it probed me into scouring and cleaning from ceiling to the floor....both bathrooms! My seldom used muscles told me I over-did it; the next day, a bit sore.
I did, however, drive to the island just for a change; a break in the scenery from indoor walls to outdoor sunshine. The TXDOT [or whatever state/federal department handles such things] was dredging the ship channel. Or getting some repair work done on it from two hurricanes in the last few years. The beach was closed to vehicle traffic, but I did walk in after parking on the access road at the barricades. What was really a bit eerie was the fact no one was around fishing off the jetty! I don't think I've ever before seen a scene like that. It felt like I was the only one left after some apocalypse.

...but I woke up a bit from my frenzied thoughts once a very large tanker appeared behind me. I quickly walked up to the jetty boulders and stood on the sandbar to watch for dolphins! I was treated to a show! Young ones with their parent...[as large as the one was, I'm thinking the papa!!!] After watching the dolphins, I walked along the quiet beach for a while, taking photos of the many terns, some with youngsters, begging to be fed, on the sand. I then drove to see if the swallows were still around, the babies in the mud nests lifted my spirits some. Also, seeing beautiful butterflies, cute lizards, more birds, and pretty wildflowers, I went home feeling a bit more 'alive' instead of a shut-in. I don't like being a shut-in.

FABULOUS dolphin pics!! And I love the sweet hungry baby Swallow.
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing the small, baby, dolphin most!
DeleteI'm so glad you went!
ReplyDeleteMe too.
DeleteOh Anni, these pictures are a real treat! Thank you for helping me "get out" too! Love, Andrea xoxo PS~ I'm feeling the same way so you're definitely not alone, my friend.
ReplyDeleteThere are days I just can't seem to get out of this shut-in funk.
DeleteThe photos from your outing are wonderful. So many of us seem "shut in" during this time. I often walk my dog or ride him around the block. That seems to lift my spirits just to get out!
ReplyDeleteIt does. I know getting away, if just for a few hours, helps.
DeleteI feel like I'm living life on a loop these days. I go from home to work to home day after day. Seeing all of this sure would have lifted my spirits.
ReplyDeleteSame here, kinda. Grocery store, home. When I used to go to the beach...beaches, closed. Many parks, closed. Storms, stay home. I don't feel comfortable going out to dine. I'm going stir crazy.
DeleteI do believe Dolphins would love to come ashore and visit! They keep taking a peek. Great pics..
ReplyDelete:-)
DeleteHello, Anni
ReplyDeleteI would be happy to see the dolphins, terns and the cute swallows. Wonderful sights and photos. Take care and stay safe! Enjoy your day, have a happy new week!
It made my day of nothing to do at home so much better!
DeleteKnow the feeling. I just came off a week of it. Seeing the dolphins had to be so special and the baby in particular. Just the picture improved my day.
ReplyDeleteOh ya, that baby just looked so happy doing the dolphin thing!
DeleteThe dolphin show was worth a trip all by their self! And then you got to see the ships in the water and the birds. Glad it made you feel better. I can only go out in the winter time this summer heat just stifles me I can't stand to be out there. The heat didn't used to bother me like it does now just as short a time as two or three years ago it didn't bother me but now I just can't even stand to be out there
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the heat...even in the 90 degree range...it's the humidity that's the "killer" for me.
DeleteI think we are all having some reactions to this extended shutdown of our normal lives. I haven't been getting my usual exercise, but I still am getting out now and then. I so enjoy your dolphin pictures, Anni! Thank you for them. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'd rather be outdoors (don't need to be exercising in any sense, other than walking) than cooped up. Not my nature.
DeleteThe dolphin photos are wonderful action shots! At least you have a sense of adventure left. I don't mind being "shut in" at all. Everyone should dance to their own music to be happy.
ReplyDeleteIt eventually drives me crazy being indoors all the time.
DeleteWow, I think I would have spent hours watching those marvelous dolphins. Spectacular photos Anni.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting bored too. When I get bored I get cranky (Hubby can attest to that)
It's so hard to get motivated.
Our older son, wife and granddaughter came over last night for dinner to celebrate his 52 birthday..that makes me feel older too. Really nice time and we did a family Zoom call with our other son and his family in Oregon.
The call was definitely a highlight for us.
It was the next best thing to us all actually being together.
Someday !!!
They only follow when a ship is leaving port.
DeleteHow exciting to see dolphins! Fantastic photos as always. Glad you got out and about a tiny bit. That cabin fever hits me hard sometimes as well. Hope you have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteI hope to have it cool down a bit for better walks.
DeleteOh my! That looks like a huge tanker and those dolphins, how very cute!
ReplyDeleteThose tankers are all huge that come into port.
DeleteThe dolphins are beautiful. Sure would love to see them in person!
ReplyDeleteI often feel I'm the only one in the world when I walk especially on foggy days. I don't usually see a soul till I get to the main road over a mile away!
They are always a highlight.
DeleteWow! I love seeing the dolphins. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteUnderstand completely Anni, good to get out, and look at all these wonderful photos you shared with us? This is good for us too to see them. Even though I haven't been very far lately, this was a treat to pop in today and virtually travel a little bit. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it all.
DeleteThe dolphin photos are fantastic. Lucky you being able to witness their frolics.
ReplyDeleteI'm always pleased when I'm there as the ships go out to sea.
DeleteThat dolphin is adorable! If I was down that alone would lift my spirit. But just being out would be good for me, too. Lovely bird shots.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rose.
