The photos shared today really have nothing to do with my posted thoughts on the subject of laughter, but I am gonna share anyway. They might wake up your dopamine!

I worked many years at a psychiatric facility before Bud retired, and very often study my antiquated DSM manual (a diagnostic book of mental health disorders...and NO, I'm not referring to anyone blogging so don't misconstrue my train of thought). Afterwards, I also texted my boss from many years ago and specifically asked her, her opinion on joking about current events & covid19. [she is a now retired psychiatrist in Colorado and over time we remained in contact and friendship is continuing] She said in so many words "By all means, laugh and keep the stress this is causing us around the globe at a minimum". That made me feel better about the subject. She also suggested I do some reading when I find time. I then went out online and did some research on my own and found this from an expert:
PS...I had to further my knowledge and looked up dopamine:
Dopamine. Dopamine is known as the feel-good neurotransmitter—a chemical that ferries information between neurons. The brain releases it when we eat food that we crave or while we have sex, contributing to feelings of pleasure and satisfaction as part of the reward system.
I'm all for "feeling pleasure" and rewards if it's even through laughter. Sit, stay, roll over! That's a good girl! Okay, I am expecting my reward?!!! Indeedy!

Now, a tale of two sisters:
I was talking to my sister just yesterday. She called to see how I was doing; that she was concerned.
"How are you little sis?" she asked right off the bat...
"I'm doing pretty well, it's too hot to move!"
a bit of a silent pause from her side of the receiver...
then, she sighed audibly ..."Have you seen a doctor yet?"
My turn to be silent now!!
"A doctor? Why would I see a doctor?"
My sister nearly interrupted me before the word doctor came out of my mouth!
..."You said you were sick with the virus" she blurted!
I started giggling, and finally choked it out...
"No no no. I didn't say I was sick!!! I said I had a case of Corona."

Shared laughter gives us strength in adversity and can help us feel a bit more in control when the future looks uncertain. Most important, funny jokes — even funny coronavirus jokes — bring us together and help us to feel connected. It's even proven to be beneficial to dopamine.

I totally agree. It helps to get us through life if we can laugh at hard times. Otherwise it is just too much.
ReplyDeleteExactly!
DeleteI like to be happy and to laugh, but unfortunately I don't always succeed!
ReplyDeleteIs very sad what is happening in the world in this moment … but we have to laugh with one eye and cry with the other!
Question: - if my blog post today is not about the birds ... but about the sheep, can I also participate in the other blog (bird photography)?
Enjoy your weekend, Anni!
Even tho it's about birds, others have posted book reviews, so why not, I say.
DeleteHello, Anni
ReplyDeleteLOL!!! A case of Corona, that is a good thing. Laughter is the best medicine! Enjoy your weekend!
Sadly, it is too early to open one. Lol
DeleteLaughter is the best medicing. Why just this morning I got a good laugh when I read my blog comments and one of my good blog buddies pointed out my spelling error on a post about bad spelling...ROFL. The funny thing is I did the post on my phone and I thought about saying so and asking people to check my spelling.
ReplyDeleteToo funny on the conversation with your sister.
That was a hoot. But if it's speaking into your phone to compose a post, it knows no difference.
DeleteSpeaking into my cell phone has become a big source of laughter for me and for others. I must say that the third photo down received and out loud oh gosh when I saw it I love that photo is so beautiful I think I might have felt a little rush of dopamine. I did not know what dopamine was and now I do. I just came from Ella's blog and I told her that looking at those sheep and all her pictures made me feel so good and made me feel happy and joyful so looking at the Sheep's being sheared released dopamine I am thinking and that's how I feel when I look at pictures of Critters all Critters make me feel good. It is true that laughter is good for the soul
ReplyDeleteI'll have to go back to Ella's and check out her photos...I just went to make sure she read my reply to her question here.
DeleteI have noticed many times that you're mine runs in the same tracks like mine do I see one word I go look it up then I it makes me see another word and I go look that up
ReplyDeleteYes, I have thought the very same often...we are quite a bit alike.
Delete...in many ways.
Great photos and I loved the joke. I just drank my last St. Pauli Girl. It had been in back of the cupboard since last year I think. I had it with my 4th of July lunch. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend ~ FlowerLady
Thank you Lorraine. I especially want to thank you for your wonderful.post today! Inspiring.
DeleteOK
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day...and don't forget to laugh!
DeleteI really like the two birds gossiping, and the joke as well. Laughter is the best medicine! :-)
ReplyDeleteIndeed.
DeleteI do agree that laughter is good for us. A good hearty laugh makes me feel great. have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteWe should all never forget how to laugh. Thanks Ruth. Have a super day friend!
DeleteYour photos are so beautiful and enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteI am full time caregiver to my husband and have been for 16 years. Before that I cared for both my parents at home until their passing. However, a few times over the years, I was able to reunite with my college dorm mates from the late 1970's and we laughed so hard, that our faces hurt! Laughter is a great medicine! Wishing you a nice weekend.
Yes indeed. Laughter is good on so many ways. Even if it hurts.☺
DeleteLaughter is my drug of choice. That is why I miss my luncheon ladies so. We use to laugh non-stop. Thanks for giving us something to giggle about.
ReplyDelete"Drug of choice"...I like that reference very much.
DeleteAnni, this post is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThe photos, gorgeous as always!
The thoughts entertaining and touches of humor.
It has it all...thank you!
You and Your Family Please Stay Safe ☕🌷
Thanks..
DeleteAnd, you, too, be safe!
HaHa..snort...
ReplyDeleteYou got me GOOD !!!!
Love your sense of humor and we all need a lot of laughs.
So happy we are on blogs together.
Sue
Me too Sue...your blog is refreshing
DeleteHo Ho, "Hootin' Anni", I can tell you really are a "hoot"! That was a good one! Yes, laughter IS the best medicine. We could all use a lot more of it these days, and keep our "dopamine" up and running! I thought "dopamine" was a drug they gave to Parkinson's patients...My daddy had Parkinson's, and it seems like that was in the medicine he had to take...no wonder he was always cracking jokes and making us laugh! His "dopamine" must have been communicating with his neurons...or something like that. LOL. Anyway, this was fun. So glad you came to visit me today and that enabled me to come and visit you! I hope we can get better acquainted. Love your bird photos!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you you decided to come by!
DeleteLaughter is wonderful. My brother (who passed away in 2000) could make me laugh so hard the tears came. No one else has ever done that for me. But of course I still enjoy laughing. DH and I laugh... sometimes at things that people today are so sensitive about (and THAT could almost be anything!) but things that may not be politically or socially correct can still be funny... Don't you think so - or is it just me?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, almost anything.
DeleteOh well, I hope you have at least a half dozen limes to go with that case. :)
ReplyDeleteMost definitely! But, I'm looking for my lost shaker of salt.
DeleteYes, we all need laughter. Thanks for the laughs!
ReplyDeleteI think dopamine gets released in me when I walk! :)
I love my morning walks too. And agree.
Delete"Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh."
ReplyDelete--George Bernard Shaw
Keep the jokes coming! :D
I LOVE this quotation!
Deleteyour "dopamine" level seems excellent...
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend
Lol
DeleteYou have it all today - great photos, and I love the joke!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mari
DeleteOh, LOL. I needed that. There have been so many times since Roger's stroke, that it was either laugh or cry...and we chose to laugh. Sometimes at things that are not funny at all. But we turn it into something funny. And then he always was sharp witted, and he still hasn't lost that. Funny, he would have to think to tell you his when he was born, but he can still come out with one liners. And I need to write them down cause I forget them.
ReplyDeleteThrough this virus I have seen so many photos with the caption 'social distancing' that have made me laugh and put me in better spirits.
Super comment Rose...I enjoyed reading every word!
DeleteThank you for the laugh and nice black and white photos
ReplyDeleteThanks Dora.
DeleteYou are such a joy!!!
ReplyDelete...as are you Linda!
DeleteYes, laughter is the best medicine.
ReplyDeleteYou are one of those artsy photographers! I love your photos.
Thanks Jenn
DeleteYour photos always wake me up, and I always love them. I agree totally about keeping the laughter going, even in dire circumstances. It’s good for the soul if you can do it, because humor is a great safety valve and gets us through. Loved your tale of two sisters. Your blog is good for us you know Anni? Thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteThank YOU dear Denise!
DeleteWonderful to know that I'm coping just as you suggest! I'm trying to stay happy and I WILL laugh a lot each day! Love your Tale of Two Sisters! Have a grand week!
ReplyDeleteThanks...have a terrific week yourself.
DeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanjs
DeleteHaha! I wonder though about how the name of the pandemic has affected that brand... do you think it’s selling more or less than before? (Totally an academic question, I neither drink Corona nor own stock in it.). Agree about need for humor ... wherever you can find it.
ReplyDeleteWho knows. Good question.
