I Can Dream of the Old Days...Life Was Beautiful Then...

Do you like ballet? Do you enjoy musicals? Perhaps you enjoy movies that are a bit different than the action figure come-to-life genre that is so popular these days. It was too hot to go out, so I finished my household chores and sat down and watched a movie that I had seen in the theater a few months back, which came out on DVD recently. I love the story CATS which is based on T. S. Eliot's 1939 poetry book Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, with the songs in the Broadway musical consisting of Eliot's verse set to music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. This version is enjoyable, tho it didn't do well at the box office, at first [when I saw it at the theater] I was kinda disappointed. Then, afterward, when I got home, the more I thought about it, the more I liked it.   Ballet is more of an 'acquired taste' I guess. I like ballet and even opera if I can understand what's going on... The animated costumes for one. How the art-costume direction got worked on is beyond me, but oh my goodness, to see the cats ears twitching as they sing or talk...their tails moving in such an animated fashion is incredible.   Not to mention their hair-like whiskers. The setting, the songs of course, the celebrities with the likes of Taylor Swift, Ian McKellan, Judi Dench, and Jennifer Hudson. I enjoyed it immensely the 2nd time. And, I will keep this in our repertoire of movies to be watched over and over. And naturally, I cried when the song Memory is sang. It happens every time...I get so emotional when I hear that song.  I couldn't help but grab my phone on the table next to me and snap some photos.  Yes, I know the movie is copyrighted, but like I said, I couldn't help myself...

I broke down and went shopping. I made a special trip to Hobby Lobby for more yarn. While watching CATS, I crocheted six more pansies for my afghan. You see, I wanted more 'warm colors' in my afghan and most yarns I have are cool colors like blues, purples, and greens.  I had made a special trip and while I was waiting the social distance of 6 feet, I saw this cutie and grabbed him off Hobby Lobby's shelf.  I'm a sucker for stuffed animals. I named him Llary the Llama [yes, why not....two "Ls".]  Bud just shakes his head and asks "Where y'gonna put that one?"

Then, I was hungry, and even ventured a bit further against my common sense when I was done with my early Sunday morning walk.  Driving home...I stopped at Denny's and ordered two breakfasts for our brunch. The Ultimate Omelet with hash browns and toast. It was delicious, but would have been better if we coulda dined in. I just can't get myself to do that yet. But, I'm gettin' antsy.  As the lyrics to the song, Memory/Memories...If I could go back to May 2019 when life was beautiful then...I could go out to eat.  As Dorothy, in the Wizard of Oz, says to the Scarecrow:  "I think I'll miss you  most of all".  The "you" in my case is restaurants.

  1. Memory
Turn your face to the moonlight
    Let your memory lead you
    Open up, enter in
    If you find there
The meaning of what happiness is
Then a new life will begin"
    Magnificent!
I've only seen the musical, not the movie ... and the "memory" is my favorite part!
Your violets are very beautiful, and Llary the Llama is so fluffy ... I also love stuffed animals. I do not miss the restaurants at all ... we make our own food!
I wish you a nice day, Anni!

  2. I've never been to the ballet and I'm not real crazy about musicals. Of course some of the musicals I've seen have been rather cheesy and it was a long time ago.
I'm with you, I miss restaurants too. I got a gift card to one last Christmas and haven't been able to use it.

  3. Thanks for those pictures. Judi Dench is recognizable, even as a cat! I miss my coffee shop and the workout at the gym the most.

  4. Glad for you going out shopping a bit. I don't mind staying in at all, but do like a solo trip on the dirt roads here. It's warming up a bit. Your afghan pansies are coming along quite well. Pretty!

  5. Haven't seen Cats yet in any form but now you have me curious. I don't really miss the eating out, but I do miss eating out with friends with lots of easy laughter.

  7. Wow! I love the blue background and the blue birds. Totally awesome! The talents and word of many costume designers just blows me away. I sometimes almost forget to follow the plot to admire their work. I would think I might do that in CATS.

  8. I really love your story-telling style Anni.
What a day you had with so many emotions spinning around you.
I do miss Denny's breakfasts...we usually have them for dinner.
Actually yesterday Hubby and I made an on-line dinner order for Chilli's. It was a 3/10 dollar dinner. Half rack of ribs , an appitizer (they had about 4 choices) non alcoholic drink..2 side choices...can't beat it for $10.00. We drove up to the curb, texted we were there and they brought everything out ready to go and nice and hot. Delicious and social distanced, server wore mask..couldn't have asked for anything better. And NO Dishes to wash afterward !!!
Not quite ready to dine in at most places though. A few are opening up around here.

  9. Your photos of Cats is excellent! It looks like you went to the play with your camera! Hobby Lobby! You make me want to go even more!! Hobby Lobby and Home Goods are my downfall!! I have not been shopping anywhere except grocery stores in months. I want to see the rest of Llarry! Hobby Lobby does have such cute stuffed animals, and did you look at their jigsaws? They have lots of nice ones! I just got your message, thanks for clearing that up!

    1. I didn't want to scare you. Lol. And Hobby Lobby had less people than our grocery stores! Employees wearing masks. Sneeze screen in front of cashier, and even gentlemen at the doors to open for you to keep germs at bay.

  12. I am embarrassed to say I have not seen Cats...but the truth is the truth. Maybe one of these days I will watch it. I am getting weary of the grocery/Walmart shopping and ready to go to a quilt shop or Hobby Lobby. And to a restaurant!

    1. I know what you mean...grocery stores are boring. Same cans, same produce, same meat counter. A different store much nicer...less people at hobby lobby & all were wearing masks. As for restaurants, I could go for a juicy steak or a burger...let THEM cook & clean up. Lol. I'm not sure we even HAVE a quilt shop in town.

  14. Hello, I have never seen the show CATS. I do like the photos. We only have carry-out here, not allowed to eat in just yet. The Denny's breakfast sounds yummy. Take care and have a great day!

  15. don't get antsy! Order yarn online! This virus is real, with no prevention no treatment and often deadly... the only thing to do us avoid it! We would miss your posts after all!

    1. Online orders take days for arrival. That's too long a delay. Less people in yarn section than in a grocery stoe!

  17. I'm an odd duck, I think, in that I simply abhor musicals. Both my adult daughters love them so I'm glad they have each other to commiserate about them. But as for me, I'd rather clean a toilet with a toothbrush than watch a musical. *haha* I like music, for sure, but there's something about a musical that grates on every last nerve I've got. But I'm glad you enjoy them, Anni. Lots and lots of people do.

No, we haven't eaten any food other than food I've made in my own kitchen, with my own hands. We haven't breathed "public air" since the end of February. We haven't walked inside a public building since the beginning of March. The virus numbers are still going up in our county and pretty much the whole country. I just don't trust things yet. I'm not getting too antsy but some days I wish we could go for a ride on the motorcycle and stop-in to our favorite watering hole for an adult beverage & a couple games of pool. Ah well... perhaps someday.

    Love, Andrea xoxo

    1. Bud doesn't like musicals either. He says "who sings while fighting a street fight"? Ĺas in West side story). Lol

As for a game of 8 ball...I'll take you up on a game!
