he past couple of weeks, on Texas Ebird, there have been sightings of a rare bird [3 at one time] along the county roads in and around the perimeter of Chapman Ranch [southwest of Corpus Christi]. Naturally, that is the only reason I've been taking my day trips out in that vicinity ...to see birds such as horned larks, starlings, meadowlarks, pipits and more. Last Sunday before the Houston Texans playoff game was aired, I took off toward the desolate countryside to see what I could see. I wasn't expecting to see owls 'cause it was daylight...I don't drive alone at night if I can help it...tho, I've been crazy to take off before sunrise sometimes. lol Anyway, to make a long story shorter, I saw dozens of different species of birds that day....including the rare one. But...the car's dashboard computer told me I had a low tire. It was Sunday!! Where could I get it checked? Stopped to get air as quickly as I could, the gentleman told me I had a nail in the tire but it was fixable. I slowly drove home to keep from having it blow out on me, and Monday first thing I took it to our tire shop we frequent and it was fixed in 20 minutes...free of charge!! I like free. Now, if the weather would just clear up, I'd go back to the area in a flash....with Bud, at dusk, hunt down the owls!!

Ps...the bird photo is not the rare species! I'm saving that for my bird photography blog. This bird is a White Tailed Hawk. Oh, and the football game? Plumb Pitiful!!!
Nice that you saw all those birds. I don't drive at night unless it's absolutely necessary. It's still dark when I go to work in the morning but my drive is 1/2 mile. I know I should walk instead.
ReplyDeleteNice that the fixed the tire for free. The last time I had to get a flat fixed they charged me $25
If I would've had it done any other place...it woulda cost me mucho bucks!
DeleteHello, I do not like driving in the dark. I am glad your tire was fixed free, that is great. Nice looking hawk, congrats on your sightings. Enjoy your day, have a great weekend ahead!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day, too, Eileen.
DeleteI'm glad to hear you didn't have any mishaps from that nail in your tire. And congrats on the sighting of that rare bird! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks D J
Deleteso glad to hear you had the warning and made it home. being on the side of the road with a flat in desolate country is not something I would want to happen.. now my curiosty is killing me to find out what the rare bird is..
ReplyDeleteMe either. The ranch land is not a favorite place anyway.
DeleteGood to know the tire warning lights are worth it. Also glad it didn't leave you stranded and that the fix was free. Wow. Thought of you while watching the game. I knew you wouldn't be pleased.
ReplyDeleteFunny part is...tires have rotated so, light showing which tire was wrong. Lol
DeleteYou too? We had the warning and a small screw was removed from the tread and the tire repair was no charge! We did tip the worker. I'm eager to learn more about your rare bird.
ReplyDeleteThis weekend, I will have it scheduled to post.
DeleteI'm glad your tire story had such a happy ending. Do you have more than one vehicle? Well, this is a rare bird to ME. I never heard of a White Tailed Hawk. We have lots of Red Tails.
ReplyDeleteI have posted photos often on my birding blog Ginny
DeleteIt is always exciting to see a new and rare bird. I agree with you, free is good, especially when it comes to vehile repairs of any kind.
ReplyDeleteConsumer "rip off"
DeleteLol
Happy birding. We have nothing rare here! The same old winter birds.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about your tire. It worked out better than it could have!!!!
Like I said...I like free. And was able to get back home safely.
DeleteSo glad you didn't have a serious problem with your tire and you were able to get it fixed. I did enjoy your photos as always and looke forward to seeing the ones of your "rare" birds. Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteThis weekend I should have a post ready.
DeleteSame as Ann with flats...even though it is the only place we get tires.
ReplyDeleteGuess I am lucky they repaired it for no charge!
