Down By the Riverside....

This week, I went walking along the river at the park...one of my favorite areas that's just a short drive away from home. I left early, as usual, and when I got to the park the deer were everywhere I went afoot.  I lost count...

...fawns included!

There was a tropical depression about 300 miles south of us heading into Old Mexico. Tho, the heavy precipitation hit near Brownsville, Texas, Corpus Christi has had a few days of much needed rainfall. On Thursday, before sunrise, we had quite a lightning show!!! In fact, as I type this post up for scheduling, it's still drizzling rain! It's gonna take a long time to break the drought, but climatically, September is our wettest month. Anyway, the cloud formations were a beautiful spectacle that morning at the park....

I saw a few birds, but I'm sure I missed a lot of them, because of me watching the deer more. lol Other than sparrows, starlings, a few ducks on the pond, stilts, green jays, cardinals, doves [and did I mention a lot of deer], I photographed this wire lined with barn swallows still roosting [this is just what would fit in my viewfinder...many, many more beyond the camera lens!], and on the other side of the river, a couch's kingbird was chasing flying insects on the tree tops....

....and the river runs deep!

  1. What a beautiful picture of the Kingbird's wings! They are glorious! The deer must be be very tame. I love their big ears! The sky is beautifully mysterious.

  2. Oh My Gosh ...what stunning photos. The Deer are absolutely beautiful
The picture of the water reminds me of one I took back home in Wales.. though mine was a pond not a river.
    Have a great week..

  5. The kingbird shot is a wonderful one! The birds on the power lines do that all the time. They even like to line up on my clothesline. Deer are quite a nuisance around here destroying gardens, but they are beautiful wild creatures to be appreciated in other ways, like the peek-a-boo shot of your first image.

    1. The deer eat my sisters apples from her trees
And I think birds do the 'line-up' world wide.

    1. I love watching wild animals too. As long as they don't pose any danger to me.

  7. So glad you are finally getting a bit of rain. Hope it continues. Loved the deer shots. I hope I never have to make the choice between hunger and a deer. Not sure what I'd do.
    That bird shot is splendid.

  13. I love your deer shots...I don't know that I have ever gotten what I consider a good deer shot. And as for birds on a wire...wouldn't you love to be able to be up at eye-level and shoot looking down the wire.
