As I mentioned in my previous post, searching for bluebonnets and pretending to be Lady Bird Johnson, one day last week, the news media informed those that was watching the station on TV, that the bluebonnets were in full bloom close by. I drove there and took photos. The very next day, the sky cleared and the sun was shinning. I went back. This time I took my lensball with me. I took only three photos, -the hot sun can quickly burn your fingers and sting if you hold it up in the sun too long... but the colors were very intense...

As I drove home, I was inspired to sketch them. The beauty of the blue hillside along the highway was etched in my mind. When I got home, I brought out my sketch pad, pencil, and then when the sketch was done, I brought out my colored pencils and began to color and shade the petals in...

...the end result:

- - -
"It's not only the state flower but also a kind of floral trademark almost as well known to outsiders as cowboy boots and the Stetson hat." He also said: "The bluebonnet is to Texas what the shamrock is to Ireland, the cherry blossom to Japan, the lily to France, the rose to England and the tulip to Holland."

ReplyDeleteYour sketch it beautiful. You are very good at that.
ReplyDeleteIt relaxes me a lot. (Unless it doesn't turn out. Lol)
Deletethe sketch is AMAZING!!! I am trying not to be TOOOOO jealous. I have always wanted to be able to draw what I see... about the ball and the sun. I am now wondering I could start a FIRE with one... wooooooeeeeeee
ReplyDeleteJust like a magnifying glass...plus sunlight!
DeleteWow,,, now that is what I call a lovely day... Still dealing with lack of sunshine here .. this really is getting old here. High winds up to 60 mph. Nature's way of clearing out the dead wood!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great day Anni.
Hope sunshine is above you, TODAY!

DeleteOh MY, your drawing is just GORGEOUS!! What is the size of it? Do you ever sell your artwork? You are so talented! And also talented with the lensball, totally cool!!! I am happy with any photos of bluebonnets, but you go above and beyond!
ReplyDeleteI think the sketch pad is 11x14, not sure. And nox I don't sell them. Thanks.
DeleteWOW! Talent with a camera in hand and talent with a pencil in hand.I admire folks like you who can draw scenes like this.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ruth
DeleteEvery blue petal of this flower has different shadows and shadings. The one at the bottom left looks like a bluebird living inside your awesome lensball.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting Maria.
DeleteBeautiful blue flowers - not something I see around this area. The lens ball is very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mick

DeleteThe last lensball photo is wonderfully beautiful and so well balanced. I've yet to take mine outdoors. Waiting for warmer weather. OH! a remarkable and colorful sketch of the bluebonnets.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your kind words.
DeleteWell the photos are glorious....then I saw what your Mind's Eye saw in the sketch...
ReplyDeleteAnni that is simply breathtaking. You make sketching and painting look so easy.
Hugs Cecilia
Thanks C
DeleteI love the intense colour of the flowers.
ReplyDeleteI do too...and the fact it's blue in color.
DeleteBeautiful sketches
ReplyDeleteThanks Carol
DeleteVery beautiful. We have Lupines in our yard but not the Bluebonnet one. I like your drawing. You could rotate your lens ball and have everything right side up but maybe you don't want to. It is all good
ReplyDeleteMB
No, that would defeat the lensball concept of refractive photography. They're supposed to be upside down in the ball, with curvature....thanks for the compliment.
DeleteYour sketch is beautiful!!!
