Oso Bay Wetlands

Finally it's October! One of my favorite months, if not THE favorite month for me. Of course, all because of Halloween. But, the weather begins to improve, and the rains are no longer as heavy and frequent. In other words the humidity starts to wane, and for that I'm very happy. A week or two ago, I took my early morning walk to Oso Bay Wetlands. I haven't been there recently, and I wanted to see the progress on the new fountain area they were building this Spring...

The Wetlands are literally filled with many many trails for adults and children alike. Near the fountain area, there is an educational facility used for school classrooms...a learning center. I'll show you the fountain area first...

There are benches and arbors for all ages to enjoy the sounds of the waterfall and with flowers and landscaping it will be a...yes, you guessed...a bird sanctuary, eventually! Then, off to the side of the fountain area, there is a playground patch with benches for juveniles...a real nice place.

Note: the one photo of the playground slide, enlarge it and you can see dozens of doves in the sky!!!!

Flowers are in bloom nearly year 'round, and always some kind of wildlife...

....trails with desert-like chaparral landscape and the bay and lakes that are dry during the dry months [or partially filled]...or brimming over the banks during the wet season like we've experienced this past month:

....this is Oso Bay Wetlands!!!!

  3. What a lovely place for a walk! Beautiful Little Blue Heron.
We were being eaten alive by mosquitoes but they seem to have gone away the past few days.

  4. I don't think I have ever seen a picture of a wetland! We have one here, but I am afraid of stepping in the wrong place. But this one looks safe, and meant for enjoying. I adore the little windmill bench and beautiful little blue flowers. Great picture at the end, so we can all see just what it looks like.

  10. I'm so glad you like October Anni. I do too. It's a month of exciting birding when the weird and wonderful may turn up. Or if not there are lots of birds arriving from Europe as the cold kicks in and they heads west to our Gulf Stream coasts. Enjoy.

    1. So true, so true. I do hope, tho, that the birding kicks up its pace. Quiet here so far.

  11. I'm a fan of autumn, too! The crisp coolness after a long and too hot summer, and as leaves fall ... the hope of new beginnings.

  12. Hi Hootin Annie
You and I have done the opposite---I lived along the Atlantic coast for 59 years and then moved to the mountain state of Colorado! I enjoyed seeing your wetlands photos as they brought back memories of the salt marsh area near where i lived that was alway full of fascinating birds, flowers and insects. October was always welcomes there as the humidity of summer was finally gone! Her eis Colorado our autumn is full color right now--so pretty!

  13. Glad October has arrived for you with some relief in the humidity … we had a half-inch of snow earlier this week - autumn is rapidly drawing to a close and winter on the way. I am also a lover of Halloween - we set out our pumpkins, mums, etc. today, but we have to put the mums on the back deck every night to make sure the deer don't munch them!
