Tallest in the Americas?

It seems very fitting for this project [link] that is still underway...afterall, this is Corpus Christi [Spanish for "Body of Christ"]

After the groundbreaking on January 31, the Federal Aviation Administration approved the structure to soar up to 230 feet. The Corpus Christi Cross Project upped the ante one more time, deciding to use every one of those approved feet. It would make Corpus Christi’s cross the second tallest in the world. Only the 492-foot cross at the Valley of the Fallen, a monument outside of Madrid, Spain, will be taller. (Which technically means if the Corpus Christi cross is constructed, the claim of everyone involved that it will be the tallest in the Western Hemisphere is inaccurate) the Valley of the Fallen is also geographically located in the Western Hemisphere.**

As if 230 feet of steel isn’t a strong enough visual, a beam of light will shoot into the air from atop the structure, “like God is pointing His finger into the cross,” Milby said. There will be a pool of water at the surface where the pastor has already made an open invitation for Christian churches to conduct baptismal services.

**NOTE from Anni:  Corpus Christi also cannot claim "Northern Hemisphere" either!  Why?  'Cause not only is Madrid in the Western Hemisphere, it is above the equator, so it's also NORTHERN Hemisphere!   Our city just has to grin and bear it....the tallest constructed cross in America!!  Or maybe they could settle for "tallest in the Americas"??!!  ***Also this note: The site states: Abundant Life’s proposed cross won’t be in the heart of the city; it will be on the way in, just off of I-37 and Carbon Plant Road across the freeway from the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery. The vast majority of people entering Corpus Christi will do so by driving on I-37 where they’ll see the mega-cross on their left side welcoming them in. I state, that's in error...it will be the RIGHT side as you enter the city... if it's across the interstate from the Veterans Cemetery!!   map:  Corpus Christi is to the south east...right hand corner.

Is this what they call 'fake news'? [lol]

I pulled off Up River Road a few weeks back to check it out....  I'm really not sure it this is the exact construction site, but with the little chapel within yards of the concrete mass, I figured I was close.

It rained most of Friday night and Saturday.  I stayed indoors, mopped up some leaking water coming in two doors from the deluge,  brought out the carpet shampooer to suck up the excess water, set two fans to blow on the carpeting, and then...made manicotti  for dinner, worked on this post, and did some laundry.  I had tons of towels to wash!!

  1. It would appear that someone didn't check all the facts before reporting the story. Maybe they should hire you to keep them acurate :)
Wet carpets does not sound like fun. Hope the rain is done now.

  3. we have a really tall cross, a memorial to the priests that came with Hernando DeSoto. it is at the Desoto monument on the river... I tried to find the height, about 3 stories I think by looking. everything found on internet and in print needs to be taken with a grain of salt, as your article proves. hope your rain is gone today
