As I walked the trail yesterday morning, I then realized that the yucca plants were in full bloom everywhere! And the Texas firewheels are beginning to colorize the trail shoulders; low and sometimes hidden in the wild grass...

The cloud formations were dazzling!!!

....and along the breaker near the pier on North Bay, I spotted a whole shell underwater...a whelk! Upon further investigation, a hermit crab had taken over residency---

Regarding the Oscar Ceremony last night.
My favorite fashion was worn by Jennifer Garner...the electric blue gown! Gorgeous.
And, I was pleased with the outcome of the awards that I was interested in. 3 Billboards didn't get the best picture [thank goodness], but Ms. McDormand won for best actress. In my previous post I mentioned that she did a stellar job of playing her role. AND I also mentioned that I hoped Darkest Hour would win the make-up and that Mr. Oldman would receive the best actor nod!! Also, the theme from the movie Coco won ..along with animation. THAT was a good flick also. But of course, I do like the history and meaning of the Day of the Dead!!
Love the Yucca plant. Some grow here but there were hundreds in SC where we camped. There were very large whelks there along with small ones with in-house residents. TV is covering the Oscars this morning so I know most of what the event happenings were. It seems to me to be a display of extravagance but my thinking is "to each his own."
ReplyDeleteI love viewing the 'extravagance' of it all. It's only once a year.
DeleteI was visiting a friend in the nursing home and watched the hour of red carpet before the Oscars. I like to look at what’s going on in the background during the interviews. People watching at its finest!
ReplyDeleteYou see the most beautiful things! That shell was a special sight.....
Thanks Linda...I, too, watch the background on these events.
DeleteThe beauty of the Texas Firewheels is just incredible!! thank you for sharing! Wishing you well1
ReplyDeleteThank YOU Cathy!
Deletethose yucca blooms are just gorgeous. i missed the red carpet dresses, will have to look up the blue dress. that shell is just stunning, both with the resident and without... love it! we have those fire wheels every where here, but i did not know the name.
ReplyDeleteThey have many different names.
DeleteWhat cute crab photos! Our yucca doesn't bloom till later in the summer. But they sell part of it in the produce aisle at times. The Firewheels look like a flower here called Blanket Flower. But it would not be the same if these are specific to Texas. I am off to research it, and will let you know. Awesome sky!
ReplyDeleteY'wonder what they taste like? And, I'm sure they're not indigenous to Texas only...but, around this state they're all Texas proud...adding Texas to just about everything!
DeleteGaillardia is the official name of these flowers here, also known as Indian Blanket. I do think it may be your Firewheels, they look exactly alike! I like your name much better.
ReplyDeleteYep, they probably are the very same.
DeleteLovely photos as always...I tuned in to the Oscars at an apparently bad time. I think they dragged out every Black and Hispanic and Muslim that ever appeared for a nanosecond in a flick. Look, I am not a bigot, but I am weary of the hype....Give me Doris Day and Rock Hudson.... I know,....
ReplyDeleteI know...and hollyweird makes political correctness so obvious in movies...token blacks, latino, disabled. And more!!
DeleteI remember having a Yucca plant in our yard when I was growing up. If I remember correctly the leaves have rather sharp edges.
ReplyDeleteI just came from another blog who also picked Jennifer Garner for favorite fashion.
It was such a vivid blue and well-cut
DeleteHer dress was my favorite too! I agree with your choices as well, and the academy did a fairly good job this year, even though it seemed to lack luster. But all the clips especially of all the older movies is always enjoyable. I can't really explain it, but Frances woke everyone up with her request with the tribute to women! I thought the game show jet-ski give away was genius, only maybe something more people would enjoy. Like a trip!
ReplyDeleteI too like it when they go back in time!
DeleteI have had some of those Firewheel flowers growing in my yard. Of course, here they are annuals, but they sure are pretty.
ReplyDeleteThey're that...truly.
DeleteI loved Jennifer Garner's dress. Just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteIndeed...it was.
DeleteAll those yucca's have to be a sight to see in person. The Firewheel flowers are called blanket flowers here and are an annual. I like your name better. :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch the Oscars because I get so sick of the politics they are constantly talking about, but if I could get beyond that, I would enjoy the fashions!
I know what you mean about the politicking! You should hear me talk back to the tv! lol
DeleteI also loved Jennifer Garner's dress and enjoyed the show, except I fell asleep before the end. I was amazed at Rita Moreno looking so good at 86, and wearing the same dress as she wore in 1962! And I too love the firewheels. :-)
ReplyDeleteYa...and West Side Story was a great movie too! 😊
