Under the Mighty Oak...

Went to West Guth Park along Up River Road [alongside Interstate 37] to check for Long Billed Curlews that frequent this area in the winter. Upon arrival and finding a place to park the car so I could get out and walk the grounds, I didn't find any curlews, so I utilized the camera on scenery...

...After climbing the hills and sidewalks I came upon the park's duck pond. Under a mighty Live Oak Tree a number of Fox squirrels were busy dining on the acorns that covered the ground. I always get a kick out of watching these and their busy routine while feeding. So cute...

Squirrel: I realized I am what I eat.....Nuts.

After walking around a couple of hours, I decided to return home. Still, I thought to myself as I slowly made it through the park to the exit..."No curlews today...wonder where they are?" Just as I neared the park gate, a flock of long billed curlews flew in and landed on the grassy knoll!! I took photos for my other blog, then left.

  1. We have lots of squirrels, but they are the grey ones, not your fox squirrels. I love to watch them, too. Especially when they bury their nuts. So this wasn't the post you were hoping for, but I love it. Great squirrel shots.

  3. We had lots of squirrels when I lived in San Antonio. They are amazing how they can run on the electric wires and not fall down. I like their barking sound when they tease the dogs.

    1. I know...they have quite a balancing act, don't they?

  4. My sister has a Papillion dog, a small little thing, but he has caught and dispatched seven squirrels in the past few years. Imagine! He shakes them until they die, not a scratch on them when he's done. :-)

  8. We don't have fox squirrels but plenty of the little red devils. They are up and down the trees and running across the beachfront constantly. You really got great shots here!
