It's been over a week since I've posted anything here at Hootin' Anni's abode. Master Bathroom prep for redecorating has kept me a bit locked up with no where to go but on the ladder. Up and down, up and down. Thursday afternoon, after a lunch break, I felt like getting out in the fresh air and walking... even if it had rained and threatened more to come within the next few hours of that day. The forefront of the massive hurricane [Patricia] that hit the west coast of Old Mexico was barreling down on parts of Texas by the beginning of Thursday, so there have been bouts of heavy rain and now flooding from the storm after landfall. But, on my afternoon break, it wasn't all that wet. I drove to the Botanical Gardens to get out and about and see what bird activity I could find out in the Garden's Wetland Preserve and Gator Pond. By the time I arrived, the winds had kicked up...keeping the birds inactive. I walked the entire 180+ acre perimeter/pathways and enjoyed the quiet and solitude. From a few species of water fowl to turtles and tortoises - to the butterfly house, and rose cotillion to the arid desert with the cactus blossoms just readying to open for the night, I stopped a while at the wetlands preserve to watch and took photos. Before leaving, I also walked the Tropical Plumeria Path with all the beautiful blossoms that linger.
Throughout my 2 hour walk the high winds scented the entire area with sweet roses. Everywhere I went, the spicy fragrance of roses permeated the air...

ReplyDeleteGorgeous curlew!
Light rain here....but the winds!!! Fast and Furious this morning.
Deletethe rain did not harm your photos at all... these are all gorgeous. love the b flies and the cardinal. hope you are safe today, we are watching the remains of Patrica and she is flooding Texas
ReplyDelete...we had heavy rain yesterday and last night...but this morning it's mostly wind. North Central Texas seems to be getting the brunt of Patricia.
DeleteGlad to hear you're holding up okay with the looming threat of Patricia. On the plus side the "nature's air freshener" sounds delightful1
DeleteNani...I think the worst of the storm has passed. Hopefully. But the cool air behind it all feels heavenly after such a long hot summer.
DeleteGreat photos.
ReplyDeleteWe have a few varieties of potted cactus atMuldoon; one similar to your picture. The RG had some he grew full size at work and fork lifted the containers in and out for winter.
wow....that would be something to watch! Using a forklift to move plants for the winter.
DeleteI'm glad you posted, since I was a little worried about whether you were okay with all that rain. The pictures are wonderful! I can see why it was so fragrant on your walk. I think my family in the Dallas area are even worse off than you are in southern Texas. Fingers crossed that it will all turn out for the best. :-)
ReplyDeleteBy what I'm seeing online news...Dallis IS getting the brunt of it. But who knows about the media and their accuracy. Thanks for caring D J
DeleteGood to know all is well! Such a grand selection of photos, and the cactus are my favorites, they bring back memories of times spent at my grandfather's place in Arizona!
ReplyDeleteYep, wet....but all is well. Thanks Karen
DeleteANNI WE HOPE YOU DIDN'T HAVE ANY FLOODING WITH ALL THAT RAIN FROM PATRICIA.
ReplyDeleteMOM SAID SHE HAD A WIFF OF SOMETHING MOST FRAGRANT THE OTHER DAY..WHILE OUT NOT ROSES BUT SOMETHING WONDERFUL
HUGS MADI AND MOM
You piqued my interest now...are you teasing me, or must I return to find out the source of your fragrance?
DeleteGlad to know you are okay!! I haven't heard from my son in Dallas and I'm getting concerned!! Superb, beautiful captures as always and such a beautiful way to begin my day!! Take care and stay safe!!

ReplyDeleteAnd who in their right mind would stick their fingers into a wild animal's cage - people don't have any common sense anymore, and they are not teaching their children any either.
Have a great week!

Oh don't get me started on common sense these days....and courtesies?!!! Where did that go? Out the window or down the tube along with common sense.
DeleteWhat a wonderful botanical garden, which makes me think of visiting our local one now that the weather has cooled down somewhat.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my blog and you comment. My husband and I would have celebrated our 46th anniversary this year. We had 43 years together before he left this planet for his heavenly home. Dec. 9th will make 3 years, and I miss him every single day.
Happy fall to you and have a great week. Hope no flooding happens in your area of TX and that you will soon get to see some birds to photograph.

I am so pleased you dropped by Lorraine.
DeleteYour photos are increasingly beautiful and different. It's an artist eye you have there! Thanks for the eye-walk through your nearby garden and the plumeria grabbed me and said "LOOK!"

DeleteWow...some many lovely blooms. Mine not doing so well due to the haze.
ReplyDeleteI think you'd expect the blossoms to flourish at a botanical garden. Mine are nothing quite as spectacular in our yard.
DeleteWhat a great place to be, taking photos and smelling roses!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, the scent was perfectly light with the wind...not overpowering. Thanks Betty

ReplyDeleteSome fun critters behind the fences. I like lizards a lot.
Pretty cardinal and what a cool looking fountain.
It's been raining off & on here all week, just in time to spoil Halloween for the kids of course.
Thanks Ida...must say I LOVED your Halloween fences you found and shared today!!! [It's supposed to be rainy here over the weekend also]
DeleteWhat a pretty walk you had- love the roses. After listening to reports about the storm of the century and then waking up to silence about it- I wondered what happened. I'm glad you didn't experience a horrible flood. The rain we've had here ended our month long burn ban, so I was very glad for that. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteSplendid post Anni. blessings this week.
