You can call me Al..........

Al & Sharon
Yesterday, when I got back home from a birding trip to the islands, I decided to check my emails. Now, if y'all know me, I rarely do emails. I just don't find the time in the day. Well, let me rephrase that. I check my synched emails from my smartphone sometimes. But I usually delete them if they're not from family or long time friends. But, yesterday, it was like an omen....I checked one that looked to be a familiar name...it was from my BIL's daughter from a first marriage!!!! I'm glad I did. Sharon, my sister, was now in Denver with her husband, Al. The email from Al's daughter informed me that Al was in the hospital in Denver after an overnight trip via an ambulance. Sharon, packing her needed belongings was driven by a friend from where they all live on the Western Slope in Colorado!! Over I-70's great divide and through Eisenhower Tunnel. Thankfully, the winter weather kept them from dangerous driving conditions!!!

The reason I got an email from his daughter was that Sharon was in the hospital with Al and her cellphone was dead...kaputz!! She forgot to pack her phone charger. His daughter recharged her phone while Sharon spent the night at the hospital...we have communication now besides hospital phones!!!

To make a long recitation here a bit shorter, Al has been having trouble with his arms, legs, and hands. Saturday evening, he collapsed on the floor at home and couldn't get up. Sharon called an ambulance, he went to the ER. Of course, being a smaller town in Colorado, there was/is no specialists available...hence, the trip to Denver.

Spinal Surgery is expected this afternoon. My concern is, his age. He is 84!!!

For the news here in Texas, yesterday was a perfect, beautiful, day!!  Bud stayed home, he is still recuperating from the bout of flu, but I just had to get myself out in the sunshine after such a long gloomy two weeks.  Stir Crazy, Cabin Fever...you name it.  Outdoors I needed to be.  I drove along the beaches, ---wild flowers were waking up from the long wintry weather once again in the warming sun!  I then went to a couple of birding areas in Port Aransas, got back to Corpus and did a bit of shopping.  After getting back home, I made us some BLT sandwiches, we played 5 crowns and listened to the playoff games while doing so.  Green Bay/Seattle game was a complete surprise right down to the nitty-gritty...the exciting finish in Overtime!!  The other game wasn't anything we didn't foresee....we knew that the Patriots would win.  Speaking of Football...the Denver Broncos DID hire Kubiak as their head coach.  I'm still skeptical on that move.

  3. I would be concerned at any age for spinal surgery, but that his age, anything could happen. Let's hope for the best. And I'm over the moon with that Seahawks win! That was a fabulous game for us, but I think the Packers should have won it. Don't tell anybody I said that! :-)

  4. Hey, Anni! My daughter and SIL are still in Port A until this afternoon to dry back to Boerne. Hope Al's surgery goes well, but I can certainly understand your concern for his age. Not much into the football games, but will watch the Super Bowl, just because it's the Super Bowl. Yesterday was a beautiful day in Texas!

  14. I hope everything goes well with his surgery and with his health in general. I know someone whose mom fell and broke part of her skull. She's about 80 something too. She normally survived and is now recovering.

  15. I hope Al's surgery goes well, without complications. Prayers lifted!! It's good that you could get out and enjoy part of your day. Hope your sweetie recovers quickly, too. There is some nasty stuff going around these days!! Please keep us posted about both of the guys.

  18. Glad you checked that e-mail! Praying the surgery goes well. His age is a concern. Anesthesia alone is so hard on older people.

  20. Will add Al to my prayers. I'm glad you got out..doesn't it just lift your spirits so much? It sure does help me..especially in the winter time when it is so cold! I hope Bud recovers fully- this season's flu outbreak seems to be a nasty one.
