There is a stretch of beach on North Padre Island that is more or less a hotel/apartment complex. On one side of the street there are apartments; on the beach side there are hotels. Between the hotels and the Gulf is sand, surf, AND a raised seawall where it can be quite active with vacationers and their dogs and locals who come out to park and walk the seawall or plant their feet in the cool sea. Most times the beaches are kept clean, but in the summer months it's difficult. Both city and hotel maintenance crews work diligently against nature to keep the annual seaweed invasion off the beach. To no avail. That's why, between May and late July-early August, most people are found walking along the top of the seawall. As Bud and I were near completing our hour's walk and returning to our car, I took a close up of one of the hotel's fences with low flying brown pelicans...

...looking out toward Old Mexico from the hotel complex [south, south-east]...you see the Gulf of Mexico. Tho some areas of the horizon sections within your view are dotted with Natural Gas Rigs and Oil Platforms, I tried to get an 'unobstructed glimpse' of the sea and the blue sky dappled with puffy cotton-ball clouds...

I love the pelicans flying in line over the fence, what an unusual picture! I also like your new header, especially the boat on the right.

DeleteIf only I had an ocean to put below my cloud shot for camera club. Best I could do is a lake. I often ask bloggers to give their input. Hubs refuses to help me choose since I might beat his entry. lol I love the composition of the fence and brown pelicans!

ReplyDeleteI just noticed your quotes on the left ---love them all. I started a file of quotations years ago ---it's probably at least 100 pages long now (in a rather small font.) But, for some unknown reason, Mac switch from one word-processing format to another without a method of transferring files from the old program. (Duh???) So I have my quotes on my old computer and can send text to myself in the body of an email, then open my email on my husband's PC and copy the text and paste it into Word or put it in a basic text format on my new Mac. I think I'm going to get Word for Mac and try transferring my files to it. It might take years, though. I've been copying new quotes to the basic text format ---hoping I can eventually add them to my old files once they are transferred.

Betsy, this is NORTH Padre Island...not the vacation area of Brownsville....which is South Padre Island that I think you're remembering.
