1] Ms. T [as I call her], Theresa, or if you prefer TexWisGirl from The Run*A*Round Ranch Report, has taken over the reins of hosting the meme on fences. She's retitled it to "Good Fences" and the link up begins on Thursday Mornings. Tho, I rarely get a chance to photograph any good fences that show some theme or story behind it since I live within the city and rarely get a chance to find rural fences that have more of a story behind it, I still wanted to encourage her in her new endeavor and participate today on the debut of Good Fences....Here is my photo... not of an entire fence, but one lone fence post I found sticking out of the prairie grasses while birding. I like the barbed wire that twists around the post. The history behind this area of what is now a birding sanctuary was once a grazing land for area cattle. The Port Aransas Nature Preserve encompasses 1,217 acres in an area formerly known as Charlie’s Pasture. The area was named after early resident Charlie Bujan who allowed the locals to graze their cattle on his property in the 1800s...

2] Are there any others out there in blogland NOT impressed with the 11th season of NCIS?!! And no, it's not because of Ziva leaving for me. It's just the story lines are becoming a bit redundant and it's like reading a hack writer's work - like Larry McMurtry or Jackie Collins...the story's the same, only the characters' [criminals'] names have been changed. Same ol' same ol' week after week after week. This year, Tony is trying to be the comedy relief of them all and not pulling it off as well as years past. Gibbs seems to be even more non-caring about his team - all he's been doing in the majority of the episodes lately is staring at his team without vocal leadership on the work at hand. I do admit he did show Jimmy a bit of compassion on a recent airing, "A Rock and a Hard Place", but pay attention...he stares with such a hateful look on his face...I can't place it, but there has been a change in his attitude that I'm not liking one bit. The airing of part one this week, Gibbs has a little bit more spunk with the proposed spin-off of an NCIS in New Orleans. It just hasn't cut the mustard this year. Then, there is McGee - lately he is usually seen most often at his desk inserting his newly acquired flash drive every episode, and hardly any of Abby this year. Sad. Such a good thing going, but oh so boring this season. New writers needed? Or should they just call it quits? Bud told me he read while out on his smartphone that their ratings are dropping. No longer are they on the top! I can understand why!
3] BY THE WAY....So many have commented on the new blog header I designed. Some have asked if it's a photo of a bird that I have taken....no it's clipart from a graphic group I've joined many years ago. BUT!!! It is of a real bird! Only graphic and not photo. From South Africa I believe. It's called a Lilac Breasted Roller!!! ...read more about them here
4] Did you hear about the Texan who saw a sign that said "wet cement" so he did.
5] Speaking of Texas, recently the landscape is full of yellow wherever you look these days...the one species of Acacia is in full bloom! Technically it's huisache, or sweet acacia....their yellow blossoms are quite fragrant and shaped in little yellow balls. The leaves are fern like [if you know your mesquite trees, the huisache is VERY similar in leaf fronds]. Against a blue sky the trees/or bushes if kept under control, are really pretty. My husband used to watch NCIS when Kate was one of the characters, but quit after she left. I think he had a little crush on her. :)
ReplyDeleteBud had a crush on Ziva I think. lol
DeleteMorning Annie! You are a hoot! I've just had my first chuckle of the day, thank you! Well, I'm sure liking your fence photograph, it's unique! Oh Tex is going to love it! Must say that bird on your header is just beautiful and the sweet acacia is too! And, our own Texas flag is awesome!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day sweet lady~
Nancy
...wow, Nancy and Rural Journal and now you, Nancy from Nancy Notes....that's just gotta mean something, right? Thanks for the compliments today....and hope you're right on how TexWisGirl will react to a 'partial fence'.
DeleteHave a great day yourself!!
"Wet cement' lol! I enjoyed the interesting little snippets you posted, Anni. Australia has many varieties of acacia, wattle and mimosa...in fact, our national flower is the wattle. They are such a cheerful tree with a lovely perfume which unfortunately affects my allergies! I always think, when I see these trees in bloom, that they're made from sunshine.
ReplyDelete,,,I know that if not controlled those acacias can become invasive. But ya, having allergies and blooming time would be no good.
DeleteYou are such a gift to the world.
ReplyDelete...as you are too!!
Deletethanks, anni! LOVE that 'partial' fence! perfect! really appreciate the support!
ReplyDelete(ncis is a little drab this year w/o ziva)
...I just hope I can remember to look for some other types of 'fences' while I'm out and about!!! Thanks for hosting Ms. T!
DeleteI am not as fond of NCIS any more as I was, but I still really like NCIS LA. You're right that the spark has gone out of the show this year. And I've been admiring that new header very much myself but didn't say anything until now. It's really stunning. :-)
ReplyDelete...it's like overnight this show has gone 'down the tubes'!!
DeleteDearest Anni;
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your picture of fence and wondering if Japanese simple style Fence will fits p;)
Wow; Lilac-breasted Roller♬♬♬ How beautiful and colorful! I thought the image was a someone's drawing :-)
Sending you Lots of Love and Hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*
...I'm sure your fence images will be just fine!! I wish I could only SEE one of those Roller birds in person!
DeleteI don't watch NCIS but have noticed the same thing happening in several of the ones i do watch. they are just not the same and getting worse by the week. i think the writers must suffer from burnout...love your fence post.. beautiful... i had to resort to white picket fences since we have no country close.
ReplyDelete...and your fencing is just absolutely perfection Sandra!!!
DeleteAlways enjoying the pictures you post, love visiting your blog :)
ReplyDelete...thanks John Paul
DeleteOur landscape is currently dominated by shades of brown. We've got every kind of brown, I think. I'm super excited to see some yellow!
ReplyDeleteWe have yellow, pink, green, white, purple, reds...you name it...come on down and you'll see.
DeleteAltho, I must admit, I LIKED your brown today...those oatmeal flour cookies...yummy.
Hi Anni, I do like the fence post with its bit of wire - shows its been around a while and has worked hard. Cheers :D)
ReplyDelete...thanks Susan.
DeleteI love the fence post! When I see something like that out in the country, I wonder about the story behind it and how long it has been there.
ReplyDeleteI love NCIS, but I agree that it hasn't been as good this year, though I haven't seen every episode. The storyline seem the same, with less real interaction between the characters.
Joining you from T's Good Fences--I enjoyed my visit!
...thanks Tina. Yes, you definitely hit the nail on the head....no real interaction this season.
DeleteWe have a huge sweet acacia on our property but it doesn't bloom every year, in fact most years, it doesn't bloom. But last year it was spectacular! This year nothing... I will root around my photos and see if I can find one from last year's bloom.
ReplyDeleteI'm always a sucker for that beautiful Texas flag!! Get all misty-eyed and stand a bit taller (which , at 5'2", is not very tall.)
I think it's one of the prettiest in the nation!!
DeleteI'm also watching NCIS, the 11th season is ok, the 10th was better. But you can't really expect them to be original any more with 250+ episodes in. I still like to watch it though. :)

With the NCIS top brass and stars making money and the advertisers making mega bucks off us viewers, they should do a better job coming up with something new in my opinion.
DeleteA great-looking rustic fence post among all that prairie grass. Even the barbed wire is still intact!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from Good Fences,
~Lindy
My fence
...thanks Lindy
DeleteThat one fence post has witnessed a lot of changes!
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed. And it's probably stood up to several tropical storms and hurricanes in its prime!
Delete#2 - Thank you, Anni, for confirming what I've been feeling this NCIS season!! Joe is still watching, but I find myself doing other things while it is on. Even at the end of last season, it just isn't as good anymore. Same old same old.
ReplyDelete#3 - I commented before, but will say again that your header is beyond lovely!
#4 - Giggles!!!
Have a great day!
...I guess by the comments today, you and I aren't the only ones that think the same about NCIS
DeleteEnjoyed your post! I promise I don't live on a different planet but have no idea what NCIS is. I suspect it's a cable show? We can't even get cable out here but watch British mysteries online. Love the Texas flag photo .
ReplyDelete...thanks Judy, I'm kinda partial to the TX flag also. :-)
DeleteGood morning Anni we love your pictures as per usual!! I am in agreement with you over NCSI. Dang it I'm a huge fan too. I truly believe Ziva's departure left the writers trying to scramble up a new story line for Bishop. I like her but she is just not as exciting as Ziva...we'll see how it goes.
ReplyDeleteHugs Madi and Mom
You may have that right about the writers and Ziva leaving so suddenly.
DeleteI really like your fence post. I'm intrigued by the old fences with rusty barbed wire. Enjoyed seeing the flag. Every time I see it, I get a stab of homesickness. Even though I wasn't born there, I lived in Dallas longer than I've lived anywhere else. I loved seeing the fields of bluebonnets in the spring.
ReplyDeleteBud and I were coming home from groceries and he wanted to stop and buy gas for the lawn mower...when we stopped to fill the container, the field next to the station was LOADED with bluebonnets. Of course I had to get out and make use of the cell phone camera.
DeleteGlad you joined the fence bunch. You shared a great one. I loved all your remarks as well.
ReplyDelete...thanks LV
DeleteI love fences and you found a good one! We haven't been watching NCIS faithfully this year either. You summed it up well.
ReplyDeleteIt's a majority for sure...we've all come to the conclusion that NCIS isn't up to par this year.
DeleteHi there! Love the peekin' fence post! It's really awesome with all the flora surrounding it. Great post.
ReplyDeleteToni
,,,thanks Toni
DeleteLove your solitary wood post among all that green and draped in barbed wire. Very nice! I don't have many opportunities to shoot fences either, but I hope to contribute from time to time.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info on the header. I've been admiring it since you put it up.
We are seeing yellow fields, too. I need to get out and shoot them. If only the weather and my schedule would cooperate!
...thanks Gail. I know it's a challenge when you try to run your own business and have a life outside of photography and blogging!!
DeleteI like your post. Your post in the ground and your blog post.
ReplyDelete,,,thanks Paula.
DeleteThe acacia is gorgeous, I have never seen the real plant. A Lilac Breasted Roller????? Wow, who knew? I admire it every time I visit, and I thought it could not be real with the colors like that! Now, there is a bird that I know both of us would LOVE to see!!
ReplyDeleteYes indeed Ginny, that bird is a beauty. I need to have a rich relative show up in the near future to pay my way to South Africa lol
DeleteWell, I used to be a big fan, but when they killed off Kate...I didn't like it one bit. I left way before Ziva did. I think they need to go out graciously and leave folks wanting more,,not hang on till everyone has left them. BTW- I love your header- real or graphic- it's a goodun!~
ReplyDelete...thanks Terri.
Deleteso nice what you wrote about t (i just call her t)!! i enjoyed this, very much!!
ReplyDelete"T" is good!!! I do know she's a sweet one and we're privileged knowing her through her blogging.
DeleteYou and I totally agree that NCIS isn't top notch this season. In fact, I've found it boring! Thanks for explaining about the colorful header. I wonder every time I see it if it isn't too colorful for reality. Maybe I can get some good fence shots after returning north.
ReplyDeleteI bet you can...and maybe before you leave you can find some beach fencing? Just a thought.
DeleteHI Anni Like the fence post and bit of wire. Have a great weekend
ReplyDelete...thanks Margaret
Deletehaha...I featured a fence post, too. Love yours with the barbed wire. Go Coogs!
ReplyDelete...our son, the UoH student doesn't begin his quest for his doctorate until August.
DeleteFunny post, Anni! I have been watching The Voice and missing NCIS.. I will have to catch up on the reruns.. I do miss Ziva..
ReplyDelete...I don't miss Ziva at all, it's the good, intense, stories this year that I miss.
DeleteI like your capture for fence (mine is in the same field so to speak!) Great minds think alike as I agree 100% with your summary of N.C.I.S. in all aspects. At first I thought the arrival of Bishop, was a major issue changing the entire story line especially Gibbs, he's like putty these days.
ReplyDeleteIt's like where did Gibbs go? Are they trying to phase out our beloved characters like Abby and Ducky too? A few weeks ago I wrote a post (I'll give you the link) and asked what others thought too. http://twincitiesblather.blogspot.com/2014/02/alphabe-thursday-lopsided.html
...thanks Karen. I'm on my way to read what you have about NCIS.
DeleteLove the old fence post - my Mr.watches N.C.I.S. and loved Ziva, too, but I think he loves the new one more....:) Love the yellow flowers, too. -visiting from Tex's meme. - Karen
ReplyDelete...thanks Karen.
DeleteYep, I don't have NCIS on my schedule like I used to. By the way, you have always had some of the best headers for blog pages. How do you do that?
ReplyDelete...thanks so much Driller! I have Paintshop Pro software and make us of that program to create the headers.
DeleteThat's a neat photo of the old post! I know this will be a fun meme with Miss Tex at the helm. I don't remember if I've said before, but it's worth repeating even if I did, your header is awesome and you did a super job designing it! Very creative!
ReplyDelete...thank you Cheryl. Very much.
DeleteI love T too...so happy she started the Fences for us....glad you joined in...Love that Texas Flag....
ReplyDelete...thanks Deb. How could we NOT love the Texas flag? I think it's the best in the nation...state-wise anyway.
DeleteI love your header too. I went on a 3 week trip to Africa in September. I took a great shot of that same bird, but I had no idea of what kind it was. Glad to know. Have a nice weekend. Mickie :)
ReplyDelete...thanks Mickie...have a great weekend yourself.
DeleteAw thanks Anni, for bringing my attention to the date/s on my post for the grands! I'm blonde too, so perhaps that's my excuse! Thanks again for your visits to my blog and kind comments. Jo
ReplyDeleteLOL...Jo, I thought sure enough you were testing us to see if we were actually reading your post. [kidding]
DeleteNice to see the wooden fence which stands alone. Yellow flowers looks good.
ReplyDeleteYour header design looks beautiful. You have done a great job!
,,,thanks again John Paul
DeleteI like your fence picture. Or shall I say fence remains picture. It has a rustic feel to it that appeals to me.
ReplyDelete...thanks Ann...BTW....I miss your posts?!!!
DeleteI love visiting you! I have a fence post somewhere, but I'm tired of the snow!
ReplyDelete(ツ) from Cottage Country Ontario , ON, Canada!
...fence still buried in snow is it? Hopefully, for you, Spring is just around the corner.
DeleteHi there, We are back from ANOTHER trip. This time we were in Georgia checking out yet another waterfall... Check my blog today when you get a chance.
ReplyDeleteI know Theresa from Texas and have looked at some of her fences. Glad you are participating in her meme. She gets more comments than anyone I go to...
We still watch NCIS --and neither George nor I have noticed the changes you mention. I love the new girl on the show --so as of now, we're still happy with it. I do struggle sometimes with shows which have been on for years and are not as good in my opinion (like Bones). Guess it's hard to keep the older shows FRESH.
Have a great weekend.
Hugs,
Betsy
...you can't see any change in the characters? Whoa! I'll get to your blog soon, I hope.
DeleteLove the weathered old fence post.
ReplyDelete...thanks Pat
DeleteI don't watch NCIS, but it sounds like I am not missing anything. I love the fence link up idea. I love fences.
ReplyDelete....yep, you're not missing much.
DeleteGreat fence shot. I'll check out that meme. Even in cities there can be interesting fences. I've found a few here in town.
ReplyDeleteYes, NCIS is dropping in the ratings. I personally think a lot has to do with that new girl character. I can't stand her and some of the story lines aren't as great. Gibbs needs to have Jamie Lee Curtis return as a love interest, that would lighten him up I think.
#4 is funny.
Your new header is pretty cool looking.
...glad you enjoyed the post Ida.
DeleteI haven't watched NCIS in a while. There's only so many ways you can kill people, I guess. Sad to hear Ziva is gone. She was my favorite character when I did watch.
ReplyDelete...eventually Ziva became a bore...same stuff for her too.
DeleteThose yellow blooms are lovely. I figured that was some type of tropical bird!
ReplyDelete...thanks!
DeleteLove your header - very interesting bird! Wet Cement was my fav! Those yellow flowers are gorgeous. Hubby used to watch NCIS - I don't even have time for TV except for the news! Life has drastically changed - and takes getting used to. Good to catch up on your posts!
ReplyDelete...it's really good to see you here Karin.
DeleteNice old fence post!
ReplyDelete...thanks Brian.
