A big part of Corpus Christi for us commoners... other than the location of beaches - along the coastline our area is part of the longest undeveloped land barrier in the world; --its leisure attractions are mainly surfing, sailing, and deep sea fishing. Also a big part of this area is marine biology and natural resources in the Gulf. Corpus Christi is the 5th largest port-of-call in the nation, also situated within the city boundaries are the naval flight training base, and the state-wide Texas A&M University Branch...but, downtown, the big part would be Shoreline Drive. So much of the cultural goings-on exist here. Museums, Art & Science, live theaters, auditoriums, fountains and bronze sculptures that line the grassy knoll separating the divided street, our federal court building and more...the boulevard-like roadway is lined with eclectic structures such as hotels, banks, restaurants, yacht clubs, the marina and much more. Also, as you walk or drive the parkway, there is most always a good view of the historic 'broadway bluff' to the northwest for the most part. To conclude our walk on the Sunday past, this is what else I share with you. From resident birds, restaurants, reflections of the marina, to a church tower in the distance as I zoomed in through the fog seen from below looking toward the bluff/hill. By the way, the bluff is probably the highest point in the city, which, according to government geological records, the city's elevation is 27 feet above sea level -- but...according to this web site, the bluff probably is the highest area situated at approximately 40 feet above sea level. Hmmmm.

Good Morning. Your written words describe the area so well and I loved reading about Harrison's Landing. The gull holding down the boat line is my fav photo.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a nice day.
Mildred
Y'know, I've been there walking many-a-times, and never stopped to read the sign 'cause there are usually tons of other people walking. LOL...as I said, I took advantage of the abandoned boardwalk this time 'round. Glad you enjoyed this Mildred.
DeleteNice pictures - any walk by the sea tend to yield good images.
ReplyDeleteCheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
Yep, I agree...there is nothing like the sea and being there with a camera.
DeleteThanks for the journey.
ReplyDelete...you're welcome. Hope you enjoyed it Denise.
DeleteI've really enjoyed this walk and your beautiful foggy pictures.
ReplyDeleteit's cold here today...37!!! Brrrrr. Glad you enjoyed these shares the past three days Mari.
DeleteYou are so lucky to be living in such a beautiful part of the world. And I especially love the word 'undeveloped'... If I had a stretch of ocean like that on my doorstep I'd no doubt be there every day too...
ReplyDeleteOh there ARE other parts of the island chain that is inhabited, but for the most part, pristine and quiet.
Deletesome great photos along the bay!
ReplyDelete...glad you enjoyed this trio of postings Ms. T
DeleteTotally like this series of pictures - very nice! It makes me wanna photography by the ocean, but that's not gonna happen any time soon. :(
ReplyDelete...there is never a dull area when it comes to taking photos of the shore...or the sea.
DeleteThanks for dropping by Nanaland yesterday!! I always love to have a new visitor. Your photographs are gorgeous!! We live in North Alabama but travel to Gulf Shores in the summer and if we do not go to Gulf Shores we head to Tybee Island near Savannah where my husband is from. Both are great vacay spots.
ReplyDelete...thanks Arlene. Which reminds me of the first time I ever heard the term vacay and didn't know what it meant. LOL
DeleteAs many times as I've been through the places in your pics, I've learned more by reading your post today. The Chamber needs to hire you!
ReplyDeleterofl....when I was single, decades ago...I DID work for the Chamber in my 'home town'.
DeleteIt has been years since I have been to Corpus Christi but I always it thought the city was beautiful.
ReplyDeletefor the most part it is a pretty city. But, as a resident, I know there are some 'bad' places...as with all larger cities I guess.
DeleteI just discovered your blog thorugh TexWisGirl's blog. These images are really good. I love the misty atmosphere that they have and the third shot especially. It was also nice to learn about this city. Will follow from now on!

Mersad Donko Photography
...thank you so much Mersad. I will add your photography blog to my reading list!!!
DeleteThat's a lovely tour around Corpus Christi. I hope I get there one day.
ReplyDeleteIf you do come this way anytime...I'll want to meet you, y'know. ;-)
DeleteI really enjoyed these. The pelican shot is wonderful. And I think I'd like the words from the buoy in a sign on my bedroom door.
ReplyDeleteLOL...I like your train of thought there Linda!!!
DeleteHow I enjoyed this post! I love seeing places through your lovely pics.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday, sweet lady!
I'm happy to know you enjoyed the post Veronica!!! Thank you...and happy Thursday to you.
DeleteI have never set foot on Texas ground (just the Dallas airport and I was running to get on a connecting flight) but should I ever visit Corpus Cristi and San Antonio are at the top of the list. Your blog is surely good PR for your fine city
ReplyDeleteHugs Cecilia
Wow...do come here when you can...while I'm here so we can meet Ms. C
Deletei have only driven through Texas on I-10 and on the interstate that goe up through Houston.... would love to see Corpus Christi. your photos could have been taken right here in our town except of course the courthouse.
ReplyDeletereally? That's kinda cool knowing we have a 'sister city'.
DeleteI went to Corpus once to play in a tennis tournament with my team. We loved the ocean and how peaceful it was. Would love to go back some day.
ReplyDeleteCome on down!!!
DeleteFantastic photos and what a great place to take a walk. Where are you going THIS Sunday???
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
Well, Betsy, as a matter of fact I am just now working on another short day trip to the islands from yesterday...showing off the 'rough sea' with the strong winds and weather change. Stay tuned...lol
DeleteI would love to see all of this in person. Thanks for showing to me and your captions help understand better. I love pelicans and don't see them up close as often as you seem to!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome to come pay me a visit....I'll show you around!! Glad the captioning helps out tho.
DeleteOh Anni, we just got back home in Houston after a week of birding in the Rio Grande Valley. We saw some wonderful birds but I will say that was the coldest I have ever been down there!! We love the Corpus Christi area too!! My husband and I are both native Galvestonians and have never lost the sand between our toes. Love your photos.
ReplyDeleteI want to make a trip to that area of Texas real soon!! Nice to meet you Florence,
DeleteCorpus Christi was my Mom's favourite spot to visit, I've never been though I have friends from Canada who immigrated there and LOVE it. It sounds like a perfect spot to live.
ReplyDeleteperfect in so many ways...but not totally. ;-)
DeleteI don't know what I liked best...that church tower is amazing when the view is expanded...but there are two or three shots that has such a feel to them that I could just sit and look and look at them. I really have enjoyed these posts.
ReplyDeletethanks Rose...glad you enjoyed this week's posts.
DeleteI used to go on day trips to Corpus often but haven't been there in several years. When my husband Mel was alive his interest was Bob Hall pier. I guess it's probably still there. He stayed on Padre Island a week when they were building the National Sea Shore installing equipment. I never got to go that far down.
ReplyDeleteBob Hall Pier never impressed me much...I like the out in the open shoreline where nothing impedes my view of the sea. As for PNS, we go there to watch the baby turtle release, that's about it for us in that area. But I really like the open waters there!!
Deletethanks, for your kind words on my beach video. wish i was there now. hey, you are in Texas ... run over there ... would ya??! just kidding. i need to check up on this post ... going to look at part 1 & 2, 1st. love the views. ( :
ReplyDeleteWell Beth, I think you've seen the previous posts...at least you left comments there.
DeleteThose of us living at "sea level" or slightly above have a different perspective, I think! I live in Polk County, Florida, and it is one of the highest points in Florida, at 200+ feet above sea level. The area I live in is actually known as "the Highlands". I love your photos and have enjoyed the tour!!
ReplyDelete200 feet? I'd probably get a nose bleed. And to think I grew up where it's MILE HIGH above sea level. LOL
DeleteDear Anni, The pictures are priceless. Thank you for sharing. Texas certainly is a beautiful state. Blessings dear. Catherine xo
ReplyDelete...thanks Catherine!
DeleteWhat a great place for a walk. I love the scenery and the birds of course! Great shots, Anni! Have a happy weekend!
ReplyDelete...thanks, and happy weekend to you too Eileen.
Deletethanks for the tour. It was a nice break from the snow.
ReplyDeleteYa, I'm sure this is a great difference. Cold here too, tho.
DeleteFun tour- thanks for sharing! Your part of Texas is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree, it's pretty. My favorite part of Texas tho, as far as cities go is Houston. And then of course, the Hill Country.
DeleteMy younger brother once lived in Corpus Christi, I wish I'd gotten to visit him there before he moved away. I did get to visit him at Lake Jackson and we went to Galveston. That is an interesting place to see. He lived in several places in TX as a WalMart manager when he was living.
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing your beautiful photos. Have a nice Friday and weekend!
Glad you enjoyed this series of images this week Cheryl.
DeleteCoast scenes are foreign to me, as I am landlocked in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains (though every few years I venture to the beach). Enjoyed you poetry, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog; if I'd been home we'd had a glass of ice tea and a hoot of a time.
...a hoot of a time!! I like that.
DeleteThese are beautiful photos, Anni! I would love to visit that Joe's Crab Shack on the bay! What a perfect location!
ReplyDeleteI've not been there to eat, but I'm sure it's a good place...and as you say...location, location, location!
