A new dawn...a new year to come!

I'm back to blogging this morning...duh!! Anyway, it's been a super busy two weeks. We survived the Mayan 'end of the world'. And now, it's getting on with the normal routine again. Of course, today, I'm doing tons of laundry that was sorely neglected while my sister and brother in law were here visiting. We had a great time together!!! Going out to dine nearly every day [except for Christmas]...visiting museums, bookstores, ship tours, lighthouses, aquariums, science and history, showing them the port of call, botanical gardens, driving to the islands, and all in all taking them to the sights of our fair city. They also drove to Houston to spend a day with our son, Erik. The busy time is over; for that, I'm grateful. Yes, it was fun....loads of fun....but getting back to routine is good too. While they were here in Texas for the two weeks, Colorado was being blasted with heavy snows. So, they were glad they missed it ---but concerned of flying back in the wintry weather.

Of course, while they were still all a-snooze in their beds, Bud and I ventured out in the quiet times of early morning and walked. Went birding a couple of mornings. And what a wonderful, relaxing and quiet time for the two of us. Such beautiful early morning hours. My sister has always been a late-riser, so they missed out in all the days' beginning glory.

We had a wonderful Christmas day. We didn't exchange gifts....which was agreed upon beforehand. We all said just being together was the best gift of all. And it was. Since my sister's birthday and my brother in law's birthday are so close together, I gave them the genealogy book I had published and they both just went wild with the completeness of it all....it was a great gift...they both were flabbergasted. That made me feel all warm inside.

Anyway, now it's to face 2013. I am looking forward to a new year. Seems that 2012 was taking forever to be behind us. Even tho the days zipped by, it just felt like 2012 would never come to a close. So much has happened in the world, so many tragedies, so many governmental flub-ups, drought, distant family health issues, extreme heat through the summer and autumn months, things like that....like I said, I'm ready for a new year!!!!

I thought I'd share some of the beauty of a new day [all of the images from above to below are taken on the same day just minutes apart]...saying goodbye to 2012 and welcoming with open arms...2013. A new dawn so to speak.

  7. Wow, wonderful pictures!
Sounds like a wonderful and busy time with your guests...
I'm gearing up to begin a new year, too....thinking about finishing up my 2012 journal (I'm a month behind) and getting started with a new one...I've been moving my craft studio, doing a switchroo, now I've come to a halt as Honey Bear's little project is in the middle of the floor and needs a little more time before it is complete...then I'll get to finish up and start some new projects. I'm excited.
I've been lax on blogging these past months but it should never be a chore and one shouldn't feel guilty about it.
I've missed you so I'll be looking forward to more of you in the new year.

  15. Glad to see you back and excited about the New Year. Those pictures are really good Anni. I spent Christmas buried in snow in northern Ohio...it was awesome. Had to shovel a couple fresh inches off my sister's drive-way before I could leave for the airport Saturday. Now It is just rainy and cold in Dallas.

BTW...your genealogy book was a grweat gift. I imagine it was even more work that than you wrote about.

    Happy New Year!

I am wobbling back into blogging too after almost 2 weeks away. I have to get my Christmas page down and decide on a new design for a new year. And, I can't wait to get out and do some birding myself. It's been months since I took a day and just went on a shoot!!

I hope 2013 brings all the best in the world to you and yours Anni!!

      ♥ Happy New Year ♥

  24. Sounds like a wonderful Christmas. This year, I'm home...had both Thanksgiving and Christmas with the family. Last year, I was in India. Spent nine months out of the last twelve there and I hope to return in mid-May after shoulder surgery and the arrival of my first grandchild in late April.

As The New Year Dawns, 2013

It seems to me the year goes by,
    With such amazing speed,
The new year is upon us,
And the world is filled with need.

We make such strides in many ways,
    Yet atrocities abound,
Wars rage on about the globe,
    There seems no common ground.

    Politicians promise many things,
That are forgotten through the year,
If there was just a single thing,
    To which we‘d willingly adhere!

    Resolutions come and go,
As fast as minutes on a clock,
And when a tragedy befalls our world,
We’re in a state of shock.

If only we would pause and think,
    Each and every one,
Of ways to make life better,
Before the new year has begun.

    Change has to start within,
With regard for our fellow man,
With our doing a little bit,
Each and every time we can.

    Open up your hearts,
    To those outside your sphere,
Every child and man and woman,
    Could make a difference here.

For me, it’s been a special year,
In which my dreams came true,
    I’ll cherish all the memories,
As I bid this year adieu.

I pray the year to come will hold,
Days full of joy and peace,
When people have enough to eat,
    And wars will finally cease.

    I wish you every happiness,
You help to make my life complete.
I hope before this new year ends,
We have a chance to meet.

Best wishes for love, health, success, happiness in 2013.
