I had never heard the 1908 version, thanks for the info Anni. I'm not much of a baseball fan but that doesn't mean I don't like this song. In fact I'm probably going to be humming it all day tomorrow.

DeleteI'd only heard the chorus, not the rest of the song. I haven't been to a baseball game yet this season, but I intend to get to a game before too long. ;-)

DeleteLove the song, though I had not heard the 1908 version. Your photos are wonderful, love the mascots. They always remind me of my baby brother, he was the high school mascot, a wildcat, for three years. He was GREAT at it too, people would come to the games just to watch him! He would get so hot in that costume, but would wear it the entire game. Fun times! Thanks for helping me remember!

DeleteI've always loved baseball.. I got that from my Daddy. He was a huge Yankee's fan in the '40's when I was a little gal. He'd take me downtown to the 'Pool Room' (Mom hated that he took me there... ha) to get the scores off of the ticker tape machines....
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a teen, I loved the Brooklyn Dodgers --so Daddy and I were not on the same sides then!!!!! My little town also had a farm league one year... Daddy was the ticket seller at the ballpark --so I got to go with him to alot of games. I loved watching the games and getting to know those young guys.
When I lived near Houston, I loved the Astros and used to go to games on occasion. SO much fun!!!!!!
I also went to Wrigley Field one year to see the Cubs play... I heard Harry Caray sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame".... AWESOME...

ReplyDeleteI always enjoyed singing this in the seventh inning stretch. I don't know how many ballparks still do it, but it sure is fun. Love your photos, Anni. We're Toronto Blue Jays fans here now, but Dick used to be a Montreal Expos fan before the team moved away. Wish we had a major league team in western Canada, but there doesn't seem to be a city large enough to support hockey, football, and baseball too.

Around here, we only have the 'farm team' for the Astros...but it's still good to get out and see a minor league game sometimes too.
DeleteMy brother played baseball for years. I loved hitting the ball as hard as I could...never made it over the fence though!

DeleteGoodness, you found the whole song! I have never heard more than the chorus and thought that was all there is to it.

DeleteThe Rangers are doing well this year and Hamilton is gpoing for the triple crown I think...he is off to a blazing start. Did you see his 4 homers in 4 at-bats a couple weeks ago??? And Darvish...WOW that kid can pitch. Good luck to your 'Stros!
ReplyDeleteI follow the National League....but next year, if I understand correctly, both Astros AND Rangers will be American League...so, that means I'll be watching more Rangers games when they play each other more often.
