“A wise old owl lived in an oak;
The more he saw the less he spoke;
The less he spoke the more he heard...
Why can't we all be like that bird?”

As y'all know, south Texas has had some really unusual weather from Brownsville, along the coastal bend [where I live] up to and including Houston! Cold and dreary. I'm ready for El Nino to leave and bring back the sultry days of summer. Well, at least Spring like! The photo to the left is down at the city's Marina on a gloomy morning when the sun was trying to break through the thick clouds. When I glanced up as we walked the boardwalk and the shrimp boats docking area, the pelican was silhouetted against the golden globe and I had to stop and take a photo. I said to Bud who was ahead of me a few paces it 'looked like a painting'...he laughed, and shook his head and said that's impossible that it should be the other way around, a painting should look like Nature. Logical. I guess. But it still looked like a painting to me. The morning was beautiful...the marina was quiet and only laps pushing against the seawall and the faint sound of seagulls could be heard. Traffic was almost nil...it was so peaceful and calm.

  1. When I was in high school, my nickname was "Sunshine." Looks to me like this pelican is the early bird who will get the worm. Nice job on the image.

  2. I'm WAY behind! I'm trying to catch up this morning. I LOVE the picture - I know what you mean. One time when I took daffodils from my garden to work, someone stopped by and said they looked fake. I laughed and realized that we used to say fake looked real instead.

    I finally have the birthday party up! I've been waiting for Kristen to write something and she's finally found the time to write something for me.

    Here's wishing you much sunshine and although I don't want the heat and humidity of summer, I am definitely ready for Spring!

  11. Your husband is correct; someone should try and capture that pelican in a painting. Great shot, Anni. We're cold in Florida too, and I don't like it one bit.

    I like your new look!

  12. Oh, Anni, thanks so much for sending me to the iris picture. I meant to ask you about it today, but you read my mind. What a beauty! I'll send it on to Ruth, who is the master iris grower and gave us the gift of the rhizomes What a blessing in the midst of such cold weather. And what a miracle!

  15. Hello Anni, I too think your photo looks like a painting. What a terrific photo op. The thing is, like all good bloggers, you had your camera rigged and ready. Good for you.

    Congrats on your sweet award. It is fitting for you sunshine personality.

    Thank you for your comment on the quilt. I hope I can sew those 90 squares of fabric correctly. I have already finished one and it was not easy. Eleven to go and then adding the birds. I will keep on going though, no matter what. I want to finish this quilt. I will keep posting it until it is done. Challenging myself in blogland was pure genius. HA! Now I have many bloggers keeping their eye on me. I just can't disappoint everyone.

    Have a wonderful day.
    Hugs, Jeanne

  17. LOvely! I know what you mean about "looking like a painting." You are seeing nature at just that exact right moment. You deserved the reward of that moment for your energy in getting out there and walking so early and no matter the weather! I need to try to follow your lead instead of hibernating/

  18. That is a great silhouette of the pelican! But, I agree with Bud...it looks like nature! HA! A walk along the ocean or any body of water is such a nice way to begin a day...or end a day...or spend a day. It's never the wrong time to walk along the water. Congratulations on your "Sunshine" award and I will happily display it on my sidebar too. Thank you Ms. Anni!

  32. Anni, you really got a fantastic shot of that pelican against the sky. I love any picture where the subject is in silhouette like that, just gorgeous.

    It's 28F here today and although cloudy, it's actually a very nice day with no wind. I was gone out to run some errands and it just felt so nice not feeling the frigid temps we'd been having!!!

    Congratulations on receiving the award, dear Anni. Mama Bear passed it on to me as well and it's very touched I was:-) I'm in the company of such wonderful gals:-) xoxo

Your drawing of him is great as well, I'm in awe of your talent:-) When I first saw that picture of him beside the Christmas lights, it made me think of the movie Christmas Vacation when the cat starts chewing on the lights cord and ZAP...no more kitty! lol xoxo
