Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay...

Remember these lyrics? ---

    Sittin' in the mornin' sun
I'll be sittin' when the evenin' come
    Watching the ships roll in
And then I watch 'em roll away again, yeah

I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
    Watching the tide roll away
Ooo, I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay
    Wastin' time.....

Yesterday, heavy fog drifted in early in the a.m. Then, by midday it warmed up to 75 degrees!!! Even tho it's been wintry around here [for coastal areas in the South, anything below 40 degrees with the windchill off the sea factored in...it's downright BRRRR!!]. Once the sun shines, it warms up nicely after a 'frosty' night [yes, it DID dip to freezing a few days ago, and the tops of ALL my hibiscus and bougainvillea were frostbitten], and the grasses are still tinged with green here and there; year 'round. Nearly every day, well, at least once a week, I always end up driving downtown, near the bay to do my walking. Perhaps some would think I'm wasting time, but the beauty of the bay calls me back, constantly. I just love the atmosphere on the seawall, and along Ocean Drive with the views of the water on one side, along with parks scattered here and there....and on the other side of the boulevard, beautiful homes that are farther from downtown and the cityscape you'd find nearer to the Marina... the other day we walked the Cole Park walkway and went out on the fishing pier even with the biting wind, the sun kept our hearts warm...and we watched the world go by [use mouseover for photo captions]---

  3. Wonderful photos, I could take a nice 75 degree day right now. We are having a cold icky rain in the 30's.

  5. Beautiful pictures! I needed to see them and feel a little warmth to take my mind off the winter storm we are in the middle of!

  6. Great photos, now I am homesick! Yes I am from Texas born and bread in SA. Like all good Texans we escaped to the coast every summer, usually to Corpus or Mustang Island.

The photos aren't as early in the morning as you might think. We are in Germany and that is pretty far north so this time of year the sun doesn't bother to make an appearance until around 7:15 or so. Found the little hedgehog when my son left to catch the bus at 7.

  7. Shannon Another Texan!!! Ya, I know where Germany is...a bit southeast of Dallas, right?

  17. Always love walking along the shore, no matter what time of year or what the temperature is. I would have loved to have been in Hawaii yesterday to see those 50 foot waves. From a safe distance of course!

  18. That is a nice way to spend a walk - glad your sunshine has come back, with warm air. We're at 12 below this morning. I know you couldn't take it any more. This is really an intense cold front that seems to have parked itself over our heads. It doesn't happen often and when it does, it reminds me of growing up in Minnesota. At least there's no wind chill!

I stayed in all day yesterday instead of going shopping because it was so cold and now it's even colder - I'll have to brave it one of these days. But it's supposed to be in the 30s by Friday - heat wave!

  19. Oops - I forgot to tell you that the rear view of the sun on the water is my fave.

  20. What BEAUTIFUL outdoor watery views in your world! It was in the mid-40s when I drove home from school last night around 9pm and the same temperature as I type now ... unusual for my part of the world. That said I'm very happy with the rain we had Monday and am looking forward to more rain from Thursday through Sunday even if it means I need to wear shoes (probably sandals). LOL Thanks for dropping by Sacred Ruminations. Wish I could share some lemons in exchange for your lemon bars ;-)
If you have time, I shared more watery outdoor views and some holiday decorations at Happily Retired Gal this week.
    Hugs and blessings,

  28. Good Morning Sweetie...
I so love this post. I love the beautiful pictures of the bay. I would be there everyday that I could too. I love the peacefulness of the water, and the sounds as you close your eyes and listen, not only with your ears but your heart. Is is such a serene feeling. I like to feel the sand in my toes. It reminds me how alive I really am. I love the smell of the water, and I love to hear the birds call out to me. Yes Annie, we are more like sisters than you realize. And to think I live in the desert, but yearn for the ocean.

Thanks for sharing today sweetie. I so love it when you do.

Pop over today. I have a post you will love. I know you know this story.

Country hugs and so much love, Sherry

  55. Hi Anni. Thank you so much for posting the how to in my blog comments. THANK YOU!!!

My Day Tuesday night: Snow predicted, schools being closed for Wed morning on Tuesday night, my 4 children delirious with excitement. Bad (dangerous) driving trip made at 8:30 PM. Trip was not a merry thing. Home to find power out, kids and neighbors edgy. Hubby struggling with Generator. Generator wouldn't start. Children loving their flashlights. Not going to sleep well. Branches heard cracking. Power back on at 3:00 AM. Phone call from automated school system at 6:00 AM. SCHOOL WILL BE HELD. Tired groggy children sent to school. Rest of the day - bounced around like the night before. Upshot - RNJOY YOUR WONDERFUL WEATHER!
